The ref tells Scott Smith he has 5 minutes but the doctor steps in and stops the best fight of the night.

Kimbo gets dominated on the ground for 2 rounds, lands some flurries that Thompson bounces back from, then Thompson's ear explodes and he eats a weaker flurry than in Round 2 and the ref steps in and stops the fight way early.

Terrible, terrible turn of events to ruin the historic night.

The eye stoppage was absolutely horrible.

As far as the Kimbo fight, granted there is a solid chance Thompson was about to be finished, but the Ref definitely knew who was supposed to win that fight...

i'm sure the ref was told to do all he could to make sure kimbo won. when thompson was pounded him in the head on the ground the ref kept yelling that nothing was happening. i hope this helped kill the kimbo hype. i'm sure they'll try to spin it somehow.

yeah i mean are you supposed to be able to see clearly immediately after getting a finger to the eye? he would've been fine after 5.

If Thompson had gotten Kimbo back on the ground - which he did after a better flurry in Round 2, Kimbo would have laid there and taken punishment the rest of the fight. He had nothing left.

If Kimbo fights a B-level or better fighter not scared of his punch, he's screwed.

I can agree with the Thompson stoppage cause his ear was about to fall off.

Agreed on the eye stoppage......pretty weak.

The Kimbo fight was a wee bit premature, but probably wouldn't have lasted more than 15 more seconds anyways. That was one of the most ridiculous cauliflower ears that I've ever seen, and when it popped, I'm sure it looked like his ear was about to come off completely.....so I'm gonna' cut the ref a tiny bit of slack.....:fing02:

It took way worse for Sebastian Lujan vs. Antonio Margarito to get the fight stopped.

I'm not familiar with wrestling and cauliflower ear - could they have drained that and gotten it healed sufficiently to avoid something like this?

Supposedly they can but they have to drain it very soon or else...

To my knowledge, cauliflower ear is all broken and then inflamed cartilage, so it's not really drainable as it's not puss.

Fight was definitely a week stoppage.

I imagine it had a lot to do with the fact that the refs were told to stop fights a little earlier as it was on CBS, and the fact that they obviously wanted Kimbo to win played double in this case.

Actually, Thompson's chin has proven to be quite the opposite. Bad fight for Kimbo. His power was exposed and so was his lack of ground game. The crowd booing was deserved. Shields vs. Fickett and Noons vs. Edwards should have highlighted this card instead of Kimbo - now we can focus our EliteXC attention to them and everyone can quit speculating how Kimbo would do against elite MMA heavyweights who can take a punch and don't look like a 13-year old trying to have sex while on the ground...

Are you being sarcastic? Thompson has been KO'd in 5 of his last 8 fights (and in 7/8 career losses).

and why did the ref make thompson stand up, when he was in the side control, you cannot stand them up if they are in a mount, side control
Just because Kimbo was taking a beating

Just got a call from BE editor in chief Luke Thomas in Newark at the Elite SC event.
Luke got his hands on the judges scorecards and here's how they had it scored:

All three judges scored the first round 10-9 for James Thompson.

But in the 2nd round it got weird as Bittencourt scored it 10-9 Thompson, Crosby scored it 10-8 Thompson and Colon gave it to Kimbo, 10-9.

Something rotten in Newark ladies and gentlemen.

It shouldve been stopped while Thompson was landing elbows for a whole minute in round 2, Kimbo wasnt defending, just laying there and taking it. That was bull****, they are obvously protecting Kimbo..gary shaw can suck muh balls.

I don't think those scores are horrible. Granted, I don't really see giving the 2nd round a 10-8 for Thompson....

While Thompson controlled the very large bulk of round 2, he still got rocked by Kimbo for a bit before taking him down and slapping him in the face for 2 minutes.

Exposed baby! Even with a free standup and a bs stoppage, the hype machine blew it's engine tonight.

I wonder how Jardine feels right about now. Making 10k to get put in a hospital instead of hammering on Kimbo for some 50 or 100k, whatever they give him.

The nutriders are sure quiet tonight.

I honestly thought Kimbo would KO Thompson in 20 seconds. It was a perfect set-up, puncher vs glass jaw. The fact that Kimbo is all hype screwed it up.

And whats even funnier is that Dana White is gonna gloat more than anyone! I loved seeing the look on Shaw's face after that fight.

Dana did the same thing with Lesnar though and got burned.

I was disappointed that the Kimbo thing looks like a fix. But I was probably more mad that no other fight was great, like the 3rd round of Le-Shamrock was, on the debut night on a network.

Even Gina Carano looked kind of out-of-shape and less than 100% and the first two fights only lasted like 20 seconds each

I just wonder what the Kimbo fans have to say about this. Thompson was the perfect setup for a primetime slot for Kimbo to get that hype train going even more. Instead he got outworked and exposed. Plus with a questionable stoppage and some weird calls by the ref it doesn't look good.

I'll tell you exactly what this kimbo fan thinks, it was a much better fight then I thought.

Let me explain something to all you haters on behalf of the fans... WE DONT THINK MUCH OF HIS SKILLS, WE DONT THINK HE'S ELITE, WE DONT THINK HE SHOULD BE THE FACE OF A COMPANY AND WE KNOW DAMN WELL HE ISNT FEDOR.

We are simply entertained and are not mad at someone getting his money.

1bad65 screams EXPOSED like we actually think he's elite or something when we definately know he's not, I was impressed by both men since both came out and put a show and as far as Thompson being the perfect tomato can, i'll say this, Zahir Raheem is the most boring boxer to watch while Eric Morales is simply one of the most exciting and was expected to murder him by 2 ound ko, but Zahir put the performance of his life and pulled the win. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.

Now what i'm really mad at is the lawler match. Heres a guy so talented and underrated, destroyed Ninja Rua and gets no credit for it, and gets a bs no contest on his record. Big respect for both men and I will remain saying Lawler is a top 10 middleweight in the world

It is obvious that they needed kimbo to win as they have invested a lot of money in him :tapedshut

I will stay well clear of Elie XC from now on.

Kimbo needs to work on his condition and his ground floor skills and he’ll beat any MMA fighters. They are just as obese as Kimbo. Even I don’t like MMA Kimbo is helping the growth of that sport

Not if you look at the numbers.

The stated gate was just over 8,000. The capacity at the Prudential Center is anywhere from 17,000-19,000 depending on the event. They didn't even fill half the arena!

UFC tickets always sell out, and usually on the first day ticket sales open. Dana White is owning Gary Shaw.

I'll agree that Raheem is a boring fighter, but at the same time he's also a top notch boxer. He went into that fight against Morales with only one loss to and that was to Rocky Juarez in which he lost a decision. Thompson on the other hand had been KO'ed in the first round in his two previous bouts. So in the end he was the perfect tomato can.

I personally don't hate Kimbo for how he acts, it's just that he's hyped out to be the baddest man on the planet and some of the Kimbo fan's are just out of control when they talk about him.
