View Full Version : Who was/is better Gazza or Rooney
Dynamite Kid 05-29-2008, 11:05 PM Who was/is better Gazza or Rooney
i know Rooney still has'nt hit his prime but based on what u have seen from him at his best how do u compare his talent to a Prime Paul Gascoigne
both have had a big impact on a major championships Gazza in 1990 & Rooney in 2004
Both hugely overrated. Gazza would of done a lot better if he stayed at Newcastle.

theres a suprise :nonono:
Dynamite Kid 05-29-2008, 11:18 PM i think Rooney on form is like a force of nature ,i think he has a better touch than Gazza he is stronger than Gazza & quicker ,Gazza has the edge in dribbling obviously
im not sure who is the better finisher as neither are /were prolific both capable of the spectacular from 25 yards though ,i think they might be evenly matched on intelligence on the field both have terrific football brains im leaning more towards Rooney on that one aswell though TBH
theres a suprise :nonono:
His career was a failure after he left Newcastle for Tottenham. He could of been the greatest player that ever lived if he stayed with the Toon.
Don Gorgon 05-30-2008, 05:09 AM Gazza for me. I remember our cup run in 91, he single handedly got us to the final. I was working at Wembley Stadium for the Euros and he was immense.
DURAN_IS_GOD 05-30-2008, 05:12 AM there is no way rooney has a better touch than gazza.... rooney is a brick wall at times with his touch
to be honest i think rooney is over-rated big time, im going with gazza
Addition 05-30-2008, 05:31 AM Both were/is excellent players but i'd go with Gazza.
MickyHatton 05-30-2008, 05:34 AM Gazza, but for the knee injury that put him back years in development he would have much better.
Gazza ran a game, Rooney although a great player hasn't quite reached the heights that were expected of him.
War For 94 05-30-2008, 05:38 AM Rooney still has another 10+ years at the top lol, imagine what he can achieve...
gunners 05-30-2008, 05:57 AM Rooney is overated
Good player; just not the ronaldo, messi, or kaka everyone makes him out to be

DURAN_IS_GOD i have to disagree there fella i think Rooney touch first touch is excellent look at the way he pulls down a floated pass with instant control his first premier league goal against Arsenal is a perfect example ,look at the way he can turn his man in one motion when the ball is played up to him with his back to goal

i dont care about a one off touch for a goal mate.... every football player has moments where he brings a ball down perfectly
if you watch rooney in a full 90 minute game his first touch is poor on quite a few occassions, same goes for owen hargreaves.
surely when you say gazza is a better dribbler it almost guarantees he has a better touch than rooney??

not necessarily i put that more down to agility or close control
they say Ryan Giggs is such a good dribbler cause he is so agile he can run as fast on the turn as in a straight line apparently ,surely that is not possible but u get the jist of what im saying his agility is one of the assests that make him such a good dribbler with the ball

i agree, obviously there are a lot of other attributes for dribbling but imo the most fundamental quality is your touch.... if you lose your touch whilst dribbling your agility become irrelevant imo

no doubt running with the ball at pace is a technical skill but i always put that down to close control rather than your 1st touch
Dennis Bergkamp did not have close control of a Gazza,Messi ,but he had a better first touch than both of them IMO and he was niether a dribbler or had as close control as these 2 players do
i would not argue TBH if u were to say Gazza had the better 1st touch it is very close IMO but i would'nt say Rooney has a poor first touch i think his 1st touch is very good, i dare say there have been times in games where both he and Gazza have took there eye off the ball and have not controlled it first time
the Rooney instant was not an isolated intance though cause he did it a season or 2 ago against Arsenal again when a 50 yard ball was pumped high into the box and he brought down instantly with his first touch and the ball sat up right infront of him then proceeded to lash it in the goal ,Man Utd fans will remember the game im talking about
all im saying is Rooney has a very good touch ,wether it is better than Gazza is debatable but personally i woud plump for Rooney but i know u have gone for Gazza i respect your opinion :boxing:
TommyGunn. 05-30-2008, 12:55 PM Gascoigne at his best was the best player England ever produced IMO.

in terms of nautral talent I'd agree.
Rooney would be up there but he needs to start producing his club form for England. His scoring record over the last couple of years (in competitive games) needs improving.
I think his fitness and form is the key to England's success over the next couple of years.
DURAN_IS_GOD 05-30-2008, 01:03 PM terrible: i think im lumping first touch in with overall touch i.e close control so we are probably discussing different things but i see what your saying.
i will never berate someone who has a different opinion to me, thats what football is all about. fair play mate, i agree with the majority of what you have said. peace

yeah i agree his fitness is poor ,he does not look like an athlete at all he looks likes one of those England fans u see outside the boozer pissed up with thier tops off shouting Eng-er-land sporting a St George cross tattoo

Take Rooney out the Utd team and they're ordinary.

Nah Rooney is no Ronaldo
Rooney could be replaced ... Tevez, Villa, Huntelaar, Aguero, Berbatov ... just to name a few

Uhhhhh Rooney has the best touch of any English player. Joe Cole is second.
Rooney looks and runs like a bull but he's got that egg touch.
