I was wondering when you throw your hook. Does your elbow protect your face after throwing the punch?

It depends how u throw it and if your talking about palm fancing down the speed way to throw a hook then your elbow is used to hit the other guy if you miss the hook and you get more visability plus you can follow up if you land your hook easier then throwing hooks the power way with you thumb upwards.
