YUHHHHHHH!

Okay, so before I ask my questions. I'm an aspiring Heavyweight fighter. I'm a bit shorter than a lot of heavyweights around here, around 6'1. I've got a naturally big chest/arms and have noticed ever since I was young that I've had heavier hands than the normal heavyweights I have sparred with at the gym.

Anyways, here's my question:

Being 19, getting into the college group, my friends and I tend to party. I mean I'm no saint and I can almost promise you that I'm not a stranger to anything that can get you high on the East Coast. But lately, I've been getting heavily into alcohol almost every weekend, mostly beer.

I'm in the gym or working out at home at least 4 days a week. I stay in shape and do a lot of conditioning. My question is, does anyone know from experience/have a definite answer. Am I going to sincerely regret partying on the weekends at this age 5 years down the road? Will it end up severely effecting my conditioning?

PS: Before someone flames. Yes, I know alcohol has no benefit on one's body, I'm not an idiot. What I'm asking is if my partying will screw my conditioning up down the road.

Before i started boxing, i was a total animal when it came to drinking. I used to go out at weekend and drink between 7-14 pints of beer, and get totally wrecked every weekend. Then i started boxing. If you really want the best out of your boxing career, then drinking heavily is not the way to go about it. Im 17 and ive recently made the decision to stop drinking, ok the OCCASIONAL beer at a social event might not harm you, but think of all the **** putting your into your body, and the training you could be doing when your lounging around all day with a hangover. Your body is your temple man, you can still go out and have a good time, if your coach knew you was drinking so much, i doubt hed be pleased would he. Train hard, fight easy, somewhere near you theres a guy whos given up alcohol and training his hardest, who your gonna end up in the ring with. Think about it.

P.S Im heavyweight too and 6'6 so i guess we kinda alike lol

Depends where you wanna go... if you enjoy the sport and what to compete for your own excitement and entertainment - don't let your social life suffer! Especially as a heavyweight - you won't have to watch the lbs's. Have a few ales.

If you're planning to be the next pro-champ - then alcohol should not be part of your diet.

this is a bit off topic but about heavyweights not having to watch their weight, that attitude has left us with the current crop of fat asses int he heavyweight ranks.

Thanks for the input guys. I do plan on going far, I also plan on not drinking so heavily. But with your reassurance I think I'll be fine if I party when I'm still young.

Some men can do more drunk than other men can do sober. It all depends on the talent you were born with. However, sooner or later you will have to face somebody who is capable of punishing you for your sins. Discipline, or lack of it, is nothing more than a habit. Party animals are slackers. If you are a slacker in the gym you will be a slacker in the ring. Every slacker has lost fights he should have won. So unless you are super talented, you will pay for every sin committed and it won't take long for the bill to come due.

Best advice so far.

I wrote the book on this...

You need to stop drinking to be successful. If you can have one or two occasionally than fine but if you are like me and can't stop than you need to cut it out completely. I am trying to practice what I preach but whatever...

At least you realize its ****, danny. I have no respect for people that say its good for you, that it won't hurt, that ****. Once you have it instilled into your own mind that its no good, stopping it is a piece of cake.

I quit drinking over 30 years ago. Don't miss it a bit. All it amounts to is habit. Quit one habit, pick up another, hopefully healthier and more constructive. It is not easy to break old habits, but it can be done. First you have to want something different, then it is no so very difficult.

I think you are allowed to drink booze whilst at war.

However, you are not allowed booze when you are fighting a war in the desert - preventing dehydration. However, i have it on good authority that a blind eye is often turned (in the British Army atleast).

As for drinking, i love going out, getting drunk etc.

But to be truthful - if I have a fight, i wont drink for a month before the bout. Not only because i need to usually lose a few lbs's. But also because I want to be fresh enough to run the next day and i'm **** in the gym for 1 or 2 sessions after the binge.

Do what you want, just don't over do it and every weekend isn't over doing it. Here in England getting drunk once a week is pretty much a standard. Just stay fit, strong and on top.

Right on man. I know how it is not being able to stop. Honestly drinking does more harm than good. If you really want to be the best at something you will take the steps necessary and if you feel drinking isnt getting in the way more power to you but ask yourself how much better could you be if you didnt drink? Im also working on cutting out alcohol completely. Im learning its really a habit the less you drink, the less you crave it. Drinking just isnt helpful for my goals.
