View Full Version : "Best Damn Sports Show"
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 12:54 AM Anyone watching it right now?
What do you think of tonight's show?
Ps: I don't have time to check the other threads I posted in.
So if you feel neglected because I didn't reply, too bad. :p
Marjoh 09-23-2004, 12:58 AM I have mentioned this before, they don't seem to know a lot about boxing. But I guess it can't be help. Since they mostly cover Basketball, Baseball, and Football.
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 01:00 AM I have mentioned this before, they don't seem to know a lot about boxing. But I guess it can't be help. Since they mostly cover Basketball, Baseball, and Football.
Yeah, this is my first time watching the show and I can tell that they don't really know much about boxing.
They make it sound like "professional" wrestling.
What I'm asking is what you all think of the boxers who are on tonight and what they have said and done on the show.
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 01:02 AM Damn..
Douglas has really let himself go.
TheGreat1 09-23-2004, 01:02 AM I have mentioned this before, they don't seem to know a lot about boxing. But I guess it can't be help. Since they mostly cover Basketball, Baseball, and Football.
what are they talking about tonight? is toney and booker due to appear
Neuraxis 09-23-2004, 01:03 AM Well that's probably because they are hanging out with Toney so much. I'm waiting for Toney to grab the microphone away from Vince McMahon and call out Triple H.
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 01:05 AM what are they talking about tonight? is toney and booker due to appear
It was the Toney/Booker weigh-in, both Klitschko brothers, Buster Douglas, and Evander Holyfield.
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 01:05 AM Well that's probably because they are hanging out with Toney so much. I'm waiting for Toney to grab the microphone away from Vince McMahon and call out Triple H.
Sounds about right.
I think he should do it since he won't accomplish much in boxing.
TheGreat1 09-23-2004, 01:11 AM It was the Toney/Booker weigh-in, both Klitschko brothers, Buster Douglas, and Evander Holyfield.
damn sounds like a good show. what is holyfield talking about? and is toney talking **** to every one?
oldgringo 09-23-2004, 01:13 AM Sounds about right.
I think he should do it since he won't accomplish much in boxing.
What you mean to say is that Toney won't accomplish much in the HW division? He has accomplished a lot throughout his career and is one of the most talented fighters in the last 20 years.
TheGreat1 09-23-2004, 01:13 AM Sounds about right.
I think he should do it since he won't accomplish much in boxing.
how can u say that? that guy has already won 3 world titles
oldgringo 09-23-2004, 01:14 AM The best damn sports show period is an amazing show. I'm convinced that Chris Rose has the greatest job ever outside of any NFL punter.
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 01:15 AM damn sounds like a good show. what is holyfield talking about? and is toney talking **** to every one?
Toney wasn't really on the show.
They just showed him at the weigh-in.
He weighed in at 227, booker at 220.
When they were doing the face off I guess Booker blew him a kiss or something and Toney punched Booker.
Booker didn't even move, it was like Toney had no affect on him.
So all of Toney's camp was going crazy and some old guy who had man boobs tried to hit Booker too.
When asked what happened Toney said that Booker thought he was gay and blew him a kiss.
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 01:16 AM how can u say that? that guy has already won 3 world titles
Because he has too many problems.
Weight is one, his mouth is another, and I haven't really seen him pull off anything that's worth bragging about.
He would be better suited for the world of "professional" wrestling.
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 01:16 AM The best damn sports show period is an amazing show. I'm convinced that Chris Rose has the greatest job ever outside of any NFL punter.
lol Yeah, they do seem to enjoy their jobs.
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 01:18 AM Btw, although Toney wasn't full of fat folds, he still looked a bit soft.
But so did Booker.
Marjoh 09-23-2004, 01:21 AM I thought the Klitschko brothers interview was kinda boring. Maybe because there weren't much and what they talked about I already read awhile back. But both Douglas and Holyfield on the same stage giving their thoughts was nice.
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 01:23 AM My mistake, Toney didn't punch Booker.
He slapped him.
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 01:25 AM I thought the Klitschko brothers interview was kinda boring. Maybe because there weren't much and what they talked about I already read awhile back. But both Douglas and Holyfield on the same stage giving their thoughts was nice.
I enjoy seeing the Klitschko brothers give interviews.
Not many boxers are like those two.
I saw that too.
From the begining it looked like they were going to fight.
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 01:30 AM Anyone else enjoy the "from the vault" clips they just showed?
TheGreat1 09-23-2004, 05:11 AM Anyone else enjoy the "from the vault" clips they just showed?
what did they show? man it sucks being out here with no tv, in the middle of nowhere.
jabsRstiff 09-23-2004, 07:55 AM I'm getting the impression that "Dr.Cynical" has seen very little boxing.
Talks a lot, but says nothing.
I get the feeling this clown thinks the Klits are better fighters than Toney, in the lb4lb sense. If so, proves the guy is opening his mouth before his eyes. This is an epidemic on this board....a lot of people, especially ethnically biased ones, who talk a lot of **** about things they don't know.
TheFairPole 09-23-2004, 08:01 AM Man Toney was really out of breath after the push to Booker's face!!! He could barely talk!!! Toney was still trying to get to Booker like an hour after the weigh in!!! The just kept cutting to Toney during the show and he was still being held back and trying to break **** in his limo!!! The ending was just abunch of clips of boxers they had on the show, Stalone with those huge oversized toughman gloves, King freaking out... Basically just outtakes from the show!!! It was the usual thing they do... Pretty cool!!!
Explosivo 09-23-2004, 10:21 AM I didnt see Best Damn, but I hop to watch the fight tonight. I have to say Im a little nervous about Toney making his comeback fight against a hungy, undefeated fighter. I hope we dont see another DLH - Sturm outcome.
tracylee 09-23-2004, 12:19 PM Okay, about this fight tonight, I have Comcast, and since I'm in the south I have FSS (for south) instead of FSN. According to my guide provided by comcast, at 8pm tonight the Best Damn Sport's Show comes on and is on til 10 pm. Okay, when I push the "info" button for that channel and time, instead of comment's about the show, this is what it say's, word for word:
"A heavy weight title fight between James Toney (67-4-2,43 ko) and Rydell Booker (22-0,12 ko) in Temecula, Ca. Barry Tompkins call's the bout alongside analysts Max Kellerman and Sean O'Grady."....so, do I get to see the fight or not? That is the same channel the Sunday Night Fight alway's comes on, and it's the same city and state (Temecula,CA) and the same commentators. The only thing throwing me off is the reference to the sport's show. Anybody have any idea? Other than wanting to see it myself, I am taping it for someone, and if it's not coming on I need to know so I can get a family member to tape it for me! Help
urdaddyinAZ 09-23-2004, 12:22 PM It's actually part of the Best Damn promotional team I believe. Kinda like when they had a UFC match slotted during their time slot. It should be on the same channel as the Sunday Night Fights (you know the ones where they show a 9 month old fight over and over again). If you have cable you should get.....FoxSportsNet.......look it up. Good luck.
Nick54 09-23-2004, 12:27 PM Toney needs to grow up. If he would shut his mouth and quit being such a dick, i would root for him.

Thanks...I think they will show it on that channel. I dont know what the sport show has to do with it, but other than that everything else is the same (as when they show 9 month old fith's over and over again...I hate that!!) ;)

This came from the site a month ago - I assume the show will be like the "studio" of a football telecast and that they will go the fight that way.
THE BEST DAMN UNDERCARD PERIOD IS ANNOUNCED
Posted on Monday, August 23 @ 12:13:29 CDT by Rick Reeno
WAYNE McCULLOUGH AND CEDRIC BOSWELL RETURN TO THE RING ON JAMES TONEY-RYDELL BOOKER CARD SEPTEMBER 23 AT PECHANGA RESORT AND CASINO
LOS ANGELES, August 23 – It will be a night of long-anticipated returns on Thursday, September 23 at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California, when three-division world champion and current #1 heavyweight contender James “Lights Out” Toney enters the ring for the first time since undergoing surgery earlier this year and battles unbeaten rising star Rydell Booker in a 12 round WBC Continental Americas and IBA world championship bout to be televised live on Fox Sports Net's “Best Damn Sports Show Period.” And while the return of “Lights Out” is cause enough for boxing fans to be glued to their television sets, two other high-profile warriors will make their 2004 debuts on the card as well, when former bantamweight world champion Wayne “The Pocket Rocket” McCullough and heavyweight contender Cedric “The Bos” Boswell roar back onto the boxing scene in two compelling 10 rounders.
“If you're a boxing fan, this is a show you can't miss,” said Dan Goossen of Goossen Tutor Promotions. “Not only do you have the best damn heavyweight in the world, James Toney, fighting live on the “Best Damn Sports Show Period,” but you can also see Cedric Boswell, who is one of the most exciting heavyweights of this new generation, taking on a former world champion in the co-feature, and the return of one of the sport's true warriors in Wayne McCullough.
Doors open at 4pm (PT) and the first bout starts at 4:15pm (PT). The main event starts at 5:30pm (PT).
tracylee 09-23-2004, 02:57 PM THANK YOU!!! Now I'm relieved...I seldom have time to check out the main page here at the site, so all of that is new's to me. :D

I get the feeling that you're an overly-sensitive little **** who can't stand it when someone talks negatively about your favorite boxers.
I like the Klits because of their behavior outside the ring as well as inside the ring.
Toney acts and looks like a crazed gorilla.
What's there to like about him?
jabsRstiff 09-23-2004, 03:21 PM Sorry, fool....Toney is not one of my favorites. But I certainly see how technically skilled the man is.
You can't...because you're all hung up on his antics outside the ring.
Tell me now....is either Klit on the same planet with James Toney as far as boxing skill ?
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 03:26 PM Sorry, fool....Toney is not one of my favorites. But I certainly see how technically skilled the man is.

I can't say.
I really don't see why people praise Toney because he beat an old past his prime cruiserweight and some B,C, and possibly D level opponents.
jabsRstiff 09-23-2004, 03:27 PM You like the Klits' behavior in & out of the ring ?
Like how Wlad get the tar beaten out of him by a journeyman & then his people concocted some STORY about his blood sugar & a possible poisoning...?
You thought that was cool for them to do ?

Was it Wlad that took part in it?
I don't know about the story being true, but he did look weird in that match.

Mike McCallum is an "A"-level opponent. Michael Nunn, Prince Charles Williams, Merqui Sosa, Reggie Johnson, Iran Barkley....
EXCELLENT fighters.
I think you should stop talking now.
tracylee 09-23-2004, 03:30 PM Was it Wlad that took part in it?
I don't know about the story being true, but he did look weird in that match.
Even if he didnt take part in it, I would have thought much more of him if he had tried to put a stop to it. ( I tried to send you some good karma (you could definately use it) but it said I couldnt for 24 hr's..sorry!)
jabsRstiff 09-23-2004, 03:31 PM Was it Wlad that took part in it?
I don't know about the story being true, but he did look weird in that match.
He looked "weird" ?
He has stamina & chin problems....which are magnified by a confidence problem.
He would have probably beaten Brewster had he not been KO'd by Sanders.
He was so TENSE when he couldn't get Brewtser out....he fell apart.

But to collapse like that and look so out of it?
It did look like something was wrong with him.
Maybe it's not the story everyone is spreading, maybe it is.
We don't know.
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 03:35 PM "I can't say.

Did he fight them in their prime?
I'm going off of what I have seen of Toney lately.
I don't know of his past and honestly don't care to.
I simply do not like the ape.
jabsRstiff 09-23-2004, 03:39 PM Nunn was in his prime.
McCallum was not, but was still a top-ten lb4lber when he fought Toney.
Johnson was approaching his prime. Barkley a little past but had just easily beaten Hearns (a second time) & Van Horn.
Do you know, that in '94...James Toney was the Ring Magazine's lb4lb best fighter ? Over Pernell Whitaker.
Do you think he reached that level by dusting stiffs ?
jabsRstiff 09-23-2004, 03:40 PM "I simply do not like the ape."
Yeah.....that's fine & dandy.
But, don't knock his ability & don't argue with someone who isn't blinded to his ability by hatred.

I didn't know that.
Like I said, I don't follow the career of Toney.
I just saw his fight with Holyfield and Jirov.
Well parts of it, I couldn't stand watching him.
I don't think he deserves any praise from those two fights.
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 03:45 PM "I simply do not like the ape."
Yeah.....that's fine & dandy.
But, don't knock his ability & don't argue with someone who isn't blinded to his ability by hatred.
I was talking about his fights with Holyfield and Jirov.
I didn't see any skills from him in those fights.
Then again, I didn't watch much because I can't stand Toney and he bored me.
Winter 09-23-2004, 03:48 PM Dr. Cynical I just gave you good Karma again. I had been trying to give you good Karma, but it wouldn't let me. It finally worked again. I like your new avatar. It is like a movie. I can't wait until your red line turns into a blue line.

You're not serious, are you ?
His fight with Jirov was an excellent fight....& I don't care how old Holyfield was, he took Holy apart, with great defense, combos, & body shots.
Can you tell me when Vitali Klitschko has shown boxing skills ?
Dr Cynical 09-23-2004, 04:00 PM You're not serious, are you ?

Can you tell me when Vitali Klitschko has shown boxing skills ?
Maybe it was, and maybe it wasn't.
I just didn't care to watch it anymore.
Why praise him for beating an old cruiserweight?
Pretty much any HW can beat Holyfield today.
To be honest, I didn't watch all of VK's fight with Sanders either.
It's hard for me to stay focused in a HW fight.
I just pick VK over Toney because of personal bias.
let me set some things straight about toney, the klits, etc....
toney is a master boxer, but his attitude and sportsmanship is childish... toney has not proven anything at heaveyweight, jirov and oldlyfield were made to order for him, but so is most of the heaveyweights.... i would still pick toney over most guys except byrd and vk.... byrd presents a style problem and VK posseses every physical advantage, plus is not dumb enough to stand chest to chest with toney and fight on the inside.....
about the whole wlad/drugged situation... i think that was blown out of proportion by wlad fans and haters.... wlad himself admitted defeat and did not blame souza for anything... he simply wanted some answers to some perculiar questions... wlad fans started making excuses, giving wlad haters more reasons to flame....
TheGreat1 09-23-2004, 04:19 PM Toney needs to grow up. If he would shut his mouth and quit being such a dick, i would root for him.
he doesn't need you to root for him to win.
Eyeh8you 09-23-2004, 04:26 PM he doesn't need you to root for him to win.
Whats all the fuss about? So some ppl don't like Klitschko and some ppl don't Like Toney
you boys are acting like lil girls on a playground.
Personaly I think Vitali would kill that *******. He has proven nothing except he can beat left over scraps of Ruiz and Byrd. WOW great heavyweight.
By the way I guarentee Toney never steps in the ring w/ Klitschko, man he already talkin about Jirov again at heavy.
He gonna look good tonight though. Rydell gonna get schooled

jack_the_rippuh 09-23-2004, 04:51 PM The Klitschko's carry themselves so good out of the ring, because even if they wanted to they could never be ****-talkers...why? because they can't English very well..

James Toney and Goosen/Tutor are getting tons of free pub from having this fight on FSN. Its only gonna make Toney/Vitali an evenb bigger fight.
I cant wait to watch Toney tonight
