I just started squatting at the gym for posture and muscle building purposes, but I have heard there are a lot of injuries involved with squatting when you start out and as you progress. One thing thats bugging me right now is my spine bone at my neck feeling sore, thats about it.

When you started them did you experience any injuries?

I did them yesterday for the first real hardore time.
My legs are in hell right now, i don't think i have any injuries my shoulders hurt a bit from when i placed the barbell on them.

i've added squats back to my routine as my knee isn't busting my ass with problems from an early injury.

right now i mostly squat using light weight and many reps. however, i also supplement squats by doing non moving stance training and walking exercises among other things.

so, if any of u guys have had knee injuries or leg injuries of any kind, be really carefull and make sure to get a comfortable form with very light weight before even thinking about moving up to anything 50 lbs or over. otherwise, you could be in for major problems down the road.

you know u could add a folded towel or two on top of your shoulders to help eliminate this problem. there are also various ways to do squats where u are not using a barbell.

Thanks for the advice, at the time i was really thinking about putting a towel there.

But for now im going to stick with the Barbell Back squat and just add weight as my legs grow stronger.

Just do jumping squats with no weights and a lot of repetitions if you start to feel pain from weighted squats. See how that feels.

Barbell squats WITHOUT THE SMITH MACHINE is the best exercise you can do to build up your overall core strength (legs and lower back). However, always watch your posture and your form. DO two light warm up sets before the real weight comes...

ya I tweaked my lower spine just like the way your talking about when I started. It faded away pretty fast, but I dont know if squats relate to boxing much so im to lazy to do them anymore.

Bodyweight squats are fine, if you go all the way down. You should aim to be able to do 500 in a row, first try i think most people would struggle to make 150, especially if your used to doing just weighted squats.

i love squatting, i squat about double my body weight for a set of 5. or i'll go light weight and aim for many reps. they are a great exercise! learn to do them properly and injuries should not be a problem. and make sure not to put anything under the bar on your shoulders, it can take the squat out of alignment. just put the bar across the traps and delts and suck it up lol. you get used to it, i dont experience any pain from it.

Get a trainer to show you how to do squats correctly. If you do them incorrectly you can **** yourself up permanently. Light weight and proper form does a lot more than heavy weights and lousy form.

I've always known how to properly squat without weight and a few years back i tried it and started with only 225 pounds just so it would still be as if theres no weight and i did a set of 25 easily. Still though i just don't like squatting it ain't fun and i didn't keep doing it.

I got up to 450 in High School before I messed up my hamstring. I havent done it much since then. I just dont like the effect it has on my knees, but I'm going to start up again anyway because its a great workout, helps burn calories.

Be aware even if you do light weight your first time, you WILL be sore. I'm talking hurts to sit on the toilet sore.

I don't squat with barbell weight, I have my dumbells at my side and do my squats - hurts like hell if you overdo it tho!
