View Full Version : I popped my knee yesterday
rtbrouwer 07-14-2003, 03:19 AM I was playing soccer on the beach yesterday and a ball came a little bit infront of me and I tried to kick it so I reached out forward (like a front kick in MMA) and the leg I was standing on (left) just collapsed and I heared a very load pop. I was still able to stand on it so I went home ASAP and cooled it with ice. I slept terrible last night and I am going to the doctor today. I think I either tore or overstretched my kneeligaments on the inside of my knee.
I had trouble with my knees eversince I started sports. I had to quit soccer at age 8 because of my knees. When I started jogging a couple of years back I needed special shoes to help stabalize my ankles because I had trouble with my knees again. 4 months back I had to cancel a jijitsu tourny because I popped my right knee and now I popped my right knee. I want a ****ing specialist to take a look at it because I wanna know what to expect in the future.
I'll keep you updated.
Magic Man 07-14-2003, 03:31 AM good luck ron, hopefully its nothing too bad.
rtbrouwer 07-14-2003, 04:55 AM I just called the doctor and the assistant told me to call back between 2 and 4 pm, those are the only times a day you can call for an appointment. ****ing dutch doctors.
Fallout 07-14-2003, 09:36 AM Ron, stop kicking things man
rtbrouwer 07-14-2003, 10:44 AM I just got back from the doctor and he said he can't tell for sure what is up right now because it's still very swollen. He says I prolly ****ed my meniscus up. I have to come back next week.
JasonLeonardOBE 07-14-2003, 11:06 AM You have My sympathies RTB. Knee problems are a ****ing pain to deal with.
I had to quit football because I got my left knee smashed in. I got into lifting after that and thought I had "rehabbed" it. Eight years later I found out I was wrong after I again got it busted while playing beach football in Florida. The doctor I saw there told me it had never completely healed and was very weak structurally.
The point I am getting at is that doing heavy squats and piling on plates on the leg press will only do so much. It is not real rehab. So after you have talked to your doctor consult a sports medicine specialist if you are thinking of doing more serious sports. Get it rehabbed properly.
I am still paying for the lack of attention I gave to real rehab all those years ago. And also see if there isn't some kind of sports brace you can wear when doing sports.
Eyes Of The South 07-14-2003, 11:17 AM Hey ron remember. . . ."**** Injurys"

Thnx for the advice. I had my other knee ****ed up in exactly the same way 4 months ago. I guess I just have week knees, I never really let that knee heal back and now that I ****ed up my left knee as well I am gonna do serieus rehab for both knees. I talked to my parents and they agree on my consulting a real sports physician. if I wanna have a future in rugby or MMA my knees are vital I reckon.
The wierd thing is that I have strong legs and when doing squats I have no problems with my knees at all. Only when I go running my knees start to hurt. (in normal condition that is, now that I ****ed my knee up I can barely walk)
Nevermind, I thought it said I pooped on my Knee...that would be cool

I think I need some agility to do that.

That reminds me of the time i wrote on another forum about how i tried to spin out of an armlock and there was a lot of "poopage". Everyone thought i had **** myself while rolling out of an armlock.
Bluecifer 07-14-2003, 03:13 PM I farted while grappling once. Over-exertion I guess.
astroboy 07-15-2003, 02:32 AM could be your acl, mcl, or meniscus or pcl ....
not much really to the knee except that is ****in weak as hell
good luck

According to the doc it is my meniscus but it was too swollen to give a good diagnoses so I am going back in a week.
JasonLeonardOBE 07-15-2003, 10:33 AM Have you needed or are you going to need to get blood drained out of the knee?
rtbrouwer 07-15-2003, 10:37 AM No need for drainage as off now I think. Never had it done in the past either.

That`s a good sign then. If your tendon was partially torn or the fluid sack between your knee bones ruptured then you would need to get it drained and it would probably be a symptom of something serious.
It is not a very painful process but I can think of more pleasant things to do.
rtbrouwer 07-15-2003, 12:35 PM I don't think I really ****ed up anything bad. Nothing is torn or broken but it did get a bit damaged. I should be able to walk again normally by the end of this week and back into training the week after that. I had this before with my other knee so I know what to expect.
The reason I want a specialist to look at my knees is to know whether I could have a future in pro sports or not. if not then I know I can never make it and I won't expect anything from it but I don't want to go into pro sports and **** up my knees really bad and be in a wheelchair at 40 because my knees couldn't handle pro sports.
astroboy 07-15-2003, 02:25 PM dont worry about drainage
just get an MRI, keep its iced and braced until, dont use it man.... meniscus tears are ****
