View Full Version : any idea how cubans train? sterling 05-22-2008, 08:40 AM any idea how the cuban amatuers train? there routine? msagrain 05-22-2008, 08:46 AM If they start of at the age of 5 all they do is footwork and throw the jab for 1 year title they master it! PunchDrunk 05-22-2008, 08:47 AM For one thing, they don't have a "routine." No world class athlete has (or at least shouldn't have) a routine. You need to do very diverse training, and adjust all the time, based on peaking at the right time. baya 05-22-2008, 08:48 AM 2501 put up a thread yesterday about a little how they do, its a documentary, very good stuff. search for that one. has the word cuban and documentary in the thread title PunchDrunk 05-22-2008, 08:57 AM Watching it now! sterling 05-22-2008, 09:45 AM 2501 put up a thread yesterday about a little how they do, its a documentary, very good stuff. search for that one. has the word cuban and documentary in the thread title cheers i wil do i wana know how these guys train brooklyn kid 05-22-2008, 09:49 AM its called genetics danny stash 05-22-2008, 10:16 AM They do alot of swimming...LOL sterling 05-22-2008, 10:18 AM holy crap that film is awful i feel bad for the kid when his dad is basicaly saying were lose if u dont fight talk about pressure. sterling 05-22-2008, 10:42 AM wow seen gamboa defecting this is a great documentary P4PKING_2008 05-22-2008, 10:49 AM Some please put a link in here to the thread it doesnt show up when you search for it. Yes, that Cuban system of training boxers is one of the worst exploitations of young athletes I have ever seen. If we tried it here, we would be thrown in jail for child abuse. And that scumbag Castro does it all to prove the greatness of communism! :ugh: Journeyman 05-22-2008, 11:21 PM They do alot of swimming...LOL lol fukked UP. i heard because they start so young, they work on the basics very slowly, not even learning how to throw a hook or uppercut until the jab, footwork and balance is all perfect. Talon 05-23-2008, 08:11 PM thanks i was looking for that docu leff 05-24-2008, 03:31 AM dont know bout cubans but i remebeer some top russian trainers answer, these are the main reasons. 1:big sport, big talent poll. 2Hard work from early age, harder than what we westernes would like on a child. 3: very disiplined training, and lots off it. both technical and fyshical. in other words there are no magic routine ore special tricks. Towelie 05-25-2008, 01:35 AM my coach told me when they shadow box they never stop moving, there feet and there hands. Fiend 05-25-2008, 04:01 AM Their very quiet about it, but didn't Lennox Lexis say something about catching a poisonous snake? Not sure if he was joking or not. skyler 05-25-2008, 05:45 AM We had a cuban trainer who had been training fighters in cuba for 20 years, let me just say they are very strict and disciplined, we had to get everything 100% right technique wise, it was hes way only, there was no other right way technique wise then hes.. which makes it hard if u wanted to develop your own style. We used to do this kind of burnout where we would nonstop punch the bag with straights followed by uppercuts, as fast as you can, non stop moving around the bag for 2 minute bursts.. He would come around from 1 person to the other whipping us with a skipping rope on the back or the legs if we were doing anything remotely wrong like not punching fast enough the technique was wrong you wernt moving etc.. He made us do that for 12 rounds, i think i was the only one who didnt get the whip that night as i got it right straight away, all the others seemed to get it right after a couple rounds of getting whipped lol. sterling 05-25-2008, 08:18 AM Yes, that Cuban system of training boxers is one of the worst exploitations of young athletes I have ever seen. Also i do wna know about this poisonous snake it sounds interesting lewis said in commentarying gamboas fight about catching a poisonous snake. Trrmo 07-06-2008, 09:34 AM Just had the privelege of watching the Cuban Olympic team train as they are here for altitude training at my gym. I cant say this is there regular routine because it was only one training session, the Ecuadorian Olympic selection were also training with them. Its a big gym and there were many boxers so logistics would have made the training different. They started off by half arsed warm ups and stretching of choice. Then using the whole gym area they did verylight sparring interchanging partners for about 6 rounds or so (the sparring done in the three rings we have was done harder). This was great to watch some many world glass boxers spar at the same time. Next was some high intensity heavybag work (two to a bag- we have about 12 heavy bags) for 6-8 rounds, then some shadow boxing and warm downs. There was no shouting at the boxers, or any harsh discipline, quite a happy atmosphere really. The middleweight, Emilio Correa trained very intense and looks very muscular and big for a middleweight, hes in with a gold chance, (well I guess they are all in with a medal chance) I dont know if they will be Quito this week for more training but this time I will take make camera and post some short vids if they are still here. One of the Ecuadorian national coaches is from Cuba and they will be training at my gym until Beijing so if I get an opportunity I will talk to him and ask a few questions. If it's not too much work could you please tape some of their bagwork especially? I've already seen olympians sparring but never seen how they work a heavy bag. And Potatoes: "communism" and child abuse have nothing to do with eachother... Trrmo 07-06-2008, 02:42 PM Wow nice Trrmo! If it's not too much work could you please tape some of their bagwork especially? I've already seen olympians sparring but never seen how they work a heavy bag. No problem. They might have already left for Cuba but I will take my camera tomorrow in case they are still here! mr tricky 07-06-2008, 06:00 PM i think these cuban kids burn out to quickly in life, have you noticed there is barely any pro cuban boxers? o wait, theres a law in cuba saying they can only box amature isnt there? sumone let me know plz sterling 07-06-2008, 06:15 PM Theres a law they cant go pro because of it and if they do they need to flee like gamboa did in the documantary. Nice one trrmo tape some sparring / bag work try get as much as u can thx alot. Rafael Benitez 07-06-2008, 08:58 PM Alot of their defectors have flopped. I think they are overrated. They beasically live and train like pro's but stay in the amateur game, whereas the USA tend to have alot of medals from young prospects who actually do go on to turn pro. I reckon Teofilo Stevenson whould have been a sparring partner in the 70's if they weren't a commie nation. |
