DA1CATAS 05-22-2008, 01:09 AM Jump rope.... for long periods of time... and concentrate of footwork and speed while your doing that... Thats one of the styles i've got down pact and it wouldn't come together until i started jumping rope and mastering tricks and diferent foot combinations while skipping...
I jump sometimes for 2 hours..
sometimes i use weights..
aussieboxer2320 05-22-2008, 02:08 AM skipping (or jump rope) im a pretty good mover in the ring and its no coincidence im good with a skipping rope too.
Flawless 05-22-2008, 02:39 AM When you are sparring forgot about hitting the guy hard. Force yourself to move around and jab. Do little things when shadowboxing move around and hitting the bag move around. Little things that count
Bendigo 05-22-2008, 03:11 AM Try running in heavy construction boots. Frazier and Ali both did it, and after trying it for a couple weeks, I've already experienced a noticeable difference. And, yeah, skipping rope a lot helps too.
one of the cons of dancing on your toes is that a cleverly timed punch can put your ass down in a hurry cause your balance is so high up.
now, if you want to know what ali did, study jersey joe walcott. that's where ali got his shuffle step from and some other boxing footwork.

also, moving around in shallow water and ankle or higher mud will make huge noticable differences and is much better than wearing heavy boots. this is an old school secret so try it out sometime.

2 hours staright... non stop.
now let me say...
this is not needed to be a good boxer..
I did it specifically so i wouldn't get tired bouncing for 4-6 rounds straight when sparring... because its hard to bounce if ya legs get tired doing it.
It really helps if your trying to imitate ali's style...
BUT again this is not really needed for boxing.

How come it's better then wearing heavy boots?

WHO GIVES A ****!! 2 HOURS?!!!! MY shoulders get tired after 20minutes!
To say honestly my style is bouncing on my toes, yet i only bounce on my toes, when i'm trying to duck my opponent, and when i'm about to throw jabs
i stay flat footed. When i move around i bounce on my toes, but in the third round it starts hurting, and i punch myself out. lol
but 2 hrs man....wow....i'm gona try it myself. well.... babysteps.....

Bouncing up and down on your toes, as did Ali and Holmes, is a technically flawed waste of time. If you want to pick up their bad boxing habits, you will need to have their talent. If you had that much talent, you wouldn't have to ask these sort of questions.
Stick to old fashioned boxing. It is easier and it works.
jberg 05-22-2008, 05:17 PM i dont know potatoes, i think you can take a leaf out of a book without imitating it completely. for example, i bounce a bit, but once im at short range im more flat-footed

Pure boxers should be bouncing on their toes throughout the round. However, the bounce is part of the movement forward, backward or sideways because any boxer should always be moving. Sluggers will tend to be flatfooted because they need to set themselves to get full power into their punches. Bouncing up and down is a dangerous waste of time.
