Not as action packed as you are in all your other fights i've seen .. but you can't be Morales everytime.. that'd be tough for ya.

I like the way you were hitting and movin in one of theose rounds.. was great. Was he landing any body shots?

And yea you already said that ya bring ya hands down... happens after every punch ya threw... but you instinctively knew to keep them up when you were on the ropes.. and ya didn't pay that night for dropping them. its all good i guess.

The new way i do pads doesn't even allow my hands to be down EVER.

GREAT VID though... i enjoy your fights..

Your gonna be sumthin if your taking boxing seriously. GOD allowing the time,... I could see you on T.V. definitely.

consider keeping your elbows tighter to your body, it'll make your shots more compact as well as help with the guard. looked great man.

You are showing MUCH improvement over your last fight. Your footwork looked nice and crisp. Your defense looked pretty tight. You showed some very good lateral movement. I would like to see you focus on making it a bigger factor in your fights.

You do need to close in your elbows more with the high guard, an uppercut will come right through the center and you will not be a happy camper.

I'm doin good now that I've perfected throwing the hook with power and not spinning if you miss...

I could always do it.. but if the guy would duck or move.. i'd be a lil off balance and sometimes spin like i threw a haymaker.. so i worked on that alot... now i can throw it VERY hard and if he ducks or i miss i can still get out without spinning or looking like i threw hard..

I got the hook/jab/and left uppercut walking and moving away...It works great............. now I need the right hand stepping to the side...sorta like what mayweather did to baldomir in like round 6 i think. then I'll have 4 styles that i like and can do decently above average.

Good fight!

I do think you're making it a little harder than it needs to be. The first round was a little lacklustre, you're letting him dictate the fight a little too much. I was loving the stuff you were doing in the start of the second round, but then you went back to the phone booth warfare... I'd have you fighting more like the start of the second, and then add a few things to that. 1. I'd have you extend your left a little more. Since he is shorter than you and therefore wants to get close, leaving your left out there a little, would force him to keep a little more distance, and you'd be able to measure him up for a right cross every time he steps forward. 2. When you hit him and get around him (like in the start of the second), I'd have you attack immediately. He's turning to face you again, and you'd be able to dictate the pace if you attacked him every time that happens, instead of waiting for him.

I realize that you had enough to fight him on his terms and still win, and it definitely made for an entertaining fight, but you could have made it easier (on more spectacular on your part) if you'd outboxed him instead of outmuscling him. Maybe next timeyou fight a similar style fighter, you won't be able to outmuscle him, and you'll need to rely on a more elusive style, which is what I think suits your build. Just my opinion though, it's your trainer you should be listening to, of course. :)

If you have something you feel is unresolved on another subject, why don't you bring it up in that thread? This is about Ricky's fight, so let's stick to that here. I don't even remember what you're talking about.

You showed some good side to side movement. I would like to see you work on using that more to create punching angles. Stepping around your opponent. Don't let him set his feet.

Pop pop pop, step left, pop pop pop, step right, pop pop pop, step right. Getting in and out, to score with your punches doesn't always mean you have to step out of range. A step to the side is equally effective, but it leaves you in range to continue scoring punches.

I think we are talking about the same thing.

You could have made the fight easier on yourself with more of that side to side movement I was talking about. I don't mean like circling, but more stepping around him.

You tried to out muscle him at a few points. You can't do that to everyone, but you can step around everyone, and a fighter that you have turning, is a weak fighter. A fighter will never be able to out muscle you if you never let him set his feet.

I learned this early on working with Heavyweights as a 140lber. If I kept them turning, their size meant nothing, they were never set to push me, or out muscle me, or anything.

By keeping them turning, you are turning their biggest strength, into their greatest weakness.

I would also like to see you work on throwing punches for the purpose of directing traffic. Sometimes a push disguised as a lazy punch is beautiful thing.

If you watch Gamboas last fight, you will see him do this a lot. People were criticizing him on this forum for "lazy" left hooks. Those were not lazy left hooks. He was directing traffic. pop pop pop, step left, direct the traffic.

He used the lazy left hook to push on Jiminez face, making him fall off balance, while he stepped around him to create new punching angles.

Just remember, punching is not the goal of boxing. The goal is to control your opponent. Punching, is a means to the end, but not the end itself.

Man that was a great fight. I don't know the first thing about boxing but it was entertaining as hell. What weight class are you in anyway?
