now i understand abs are just like any other muscle, except the layer of fat over it must be burned off to reveal them.

SO, if i plan on doing a whole lot of cardio and skipping later on down the line once my injury heals, would ab-work like crunches/bicycle/leg raises be beneficial for the time being even while i cant really see the definition right now?

and comments on my current routine please....

2 sets of 30 crunches, 30 bicycle crunches, then 30 leg raises

2 sets of 20 crunches, 20 bicycle crunches, then 20 leg raises

to total 100 of each in a workout every other day.

thanks. :boxing:

I think those are good. I dont know bout bicycle crunches. I do 150 in the evening . 50 normal ones. 50 to the left and 50 to the right.

you could target the area more efficiently.

try waist turning exercises - think like swinging a tennis racket or baseball bat. many reps.

this will definitely trim your waist and ab area as it is a concentrated form of cardio.

it is also very good for you. i have many exercises like these i have to do daily to get particular kinds of strength.

I've been doing abs excercises every other day for about four months and I can feel them under the skin and can see them under certain conditions. Like you, I just have to burn off the final small layer of fat and all will be revealed!!! I have to say, it's taking a while to burn off but will be worth it in the end. I remember reading somewhere on here that the layer round the abdomen is the last place in your body to lose fat.

yeah it is in males, fish oil however seems to aid the fat loss in the abdominal area and highly recommend it.

Aaah, this reminds me of a question I was gonna ask a while ago. Sorry to break off-topic and sorry if this sounds a stupid-as-a-mo-fo question but can you get a vegetarian equivalent of fish oil capsules?

Thats true. You have to your body fat to a certain amount for them to be shown.

Just got in on this thread. Im about 160 and I am trying to get down to 154. I have this guy that I just started working with that I would consider my nutrionist he let me in on some info. Like the omega 3's which are found in fish are what will help actually lose that fat along the stomach, cardio is key and works hand in hand with your ab workouts. My one point to add would be to mix up workouts for your abs so that way you can sort of "shock" them so to speak. Hopefully I was of some help journeyman

Just remembered, I found this great site for abs workouts:

http://www.shapefit.com/abs-exercises-bent-knee-hip-raises.html

I've done only some of these workouts due to lack of equipment but they work - you can feel it.

Since I have incorporated hang snatch into my routine my core has become 5x stronger than it was a few months ago.....compund movements like squat, cleans and snatch really enhance core strength....

I did abs for the first time in a few weeks today and went through my normal routine with ease, I ended up doing about 50% more than I normally do....

Single arm hang snatch.....no joke......yoga as welll

Under 8 % .......its all about diet

depends a bit on the size off the muscles, bigger abs shows easier
