Catmeat 05-19-2008, 06:26 PM Does anybody know the minimum eyesight you can have to pass your medical? Not like that 6/24 thing, like actual sight, like -3.5 or -2.5 etc. is there any exceptions to this? I have trouble reading signs etc, but once im in the ring i can see my opponent clearly, can see all punches coming etc.

You are just short sighted right?
Rafael S 05-19-2008, 06:51 PM Hey, I'm not meaning to steal your thread but I've got an important question about this too:
I have -6 which is kinda ****ed up... It's the handicap where I can't see "far" objects. But since -6 is really bad I can't see close stuff clearly either.
I'm planning on using contact lenses in the ring until I'm old enough for lasersurgery. (contacts go to -20 and laser is possible till -8 btw)
Does anyone know if that stuff is allowed for am boxing?
Thanks in advance
Catmeat 05-19-2008, 07:29 PM P4P im not sure which is short sighted and which is long sighted, but i can see things close to me and cant read things far away, i can see things far away like a person but bit blurry. I can see every detail on a persons face in boxing range!
@Rafael, you cant use contact lenses in amateur boxing unfortunately.

Also you are not allowed to box with them in i think.
rj_ct 05-19-2008, 10:41 PM i have both passed my physical with contact lenses in, and fought with contact lenses.
my eye tests basically consists of the doctor shining a light in my eyes.
Rafael S 05-20-2008, 02:33 PM Thanks, what about lasersurgery though? Can you still box if you have done that?

No because no long term effects have been proven so could be a huge risk as it is relativley new.
mr tricky 05-20-2008, 03:26 PM catmeat, i wear contacts and hae done for about 3 years now,
i posted a thread about this a while back,
basicaly i found out that you arnt allowed to box with your contacts in , in the uk however you are allowed in america,
im going to have to bull s*** in my medical test otherwise i cant box,
and hope they dont see the thing in my eyes when they check,
i dont think their is a certian number you have to pass but i think you have to read from a board with letters on,
i cant really say coz i havent doen the medical exam but sumone else may be able to help you if they have>
jberg 05-20-2008, 05:23 PM yeah theyre pretty lenient. im about -2.5 and ive been told id pass it
DeymarPR 05-21-2008, 11:22 AM well I'm near sighted, it can't almost get worser than that, I use contacts for regular life, but the way to overcome bad eyesight is by training with it, I DONT use my contacts when i train and spar, and i like hitting the double end bag and the xtra small speed bag for those reasons it makes me really sharp, i have no problem in the ring
