Cebuano super flyweight sensation Z Gorres of the ALA Boxing Club is homeward bound.

Boxing patron Antonio “Bidoy” L. Aldeguer told The Freeman yesterday that Gorres is scheduled to plane in back to Cebu on November 3 after his ward’s scheduled fight in United States has been cancelled.

Gorres was initially set to clash with Mexican Marcos Israel Badillo tomorrow (today US time) in San Diego, California, but Aldeguer bared that lawyer-sportsman Rudy Salud, who helped him in charting Gorres’ career, informed him through telephone call yesterday morning that the bout has been shelved.

Aldeguer said there was no clear reason with regards to the sudden cancellation of the fight.

Gorres, together with the Pacquiao brothers Manny and Bobby, left for the US last September 8 to train under the eagle-eyed Trainer of the Year awardee Freddie Roach at the famed Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California.

While in the course of training, Gorres has shown an exemplary fighting skills, so impressive that Roach was compelled to book Gorres for an October 29 ring date with the veteran Mexican nicknamed as “El Rojo.”

The OPBF ranked No. 1 jr. bantamweight
Gorres will only have a few days rest upon his return as he should be back to the ALA Boxing Gym at the soonest possible time to prepare for his forthcoming fight against a still undetermined opponent on December 4 in Manila.

Gorres, who holds a 17-1-1 win-loss record packed with 10KOs, last saw action on September 4, 2004 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex where he battered Thai Sairung Suwanasil on all range to come up with a lopsided unanimous decision victory.

Gorres suffered his first and only defeat so far after being knocked out in the ninth round by Edgar Rodrigo on June 1 last year in Makati City that cost the stylish Mandaue City-native slugger his RP flyweight crown.

Gorres should stay and fight in the US if he wants to be recognized.
