View Full Version : Bernard is better at staying at middleweight or go down and make money than going up
spinksjinx 10-29-2004, 11:51 AM Since roy is gone, tarver and johnson would be duking it out december. Glen nor Tarver present a big money fight for bernard. Bernard said he has about 3 more fights he wants to fight and with the sweetness of the middleweight division at the moment this would be hopkins best choice physically and financially and will make more money then moving up.
Bernard vs Tito
Bernard vs Taylor
Bernard vs Eastman
Bernard vs Sturm
Bernard vs Vargas
Bernard vs Ikeke
Their is six fights right their, Bernard has 3 left in him...This fighter needs to finish at middleweight and get these matchups made, this is where the money is after the downfall of roy.....
Tito/Taylor or sturm/Eastman would be one hell of a way to go out in a career.
Soundtraveler 10-29-2004, 02:08 PM Hopkins has been able to keep his "top dog" status by staying put division wise, at this point the weight has to be considered a natural one for him. I think however, that going down in weight is harder for a fighter, as losing weight means losing power for most. The trick would be to bait a Vargas to take the fight, Vargas isn't hurting for money, so I don't see it happening, but I would love to see DeLaHoya vs Hopkins II. I actually had DeLaHoya winning on my card when the body shot landed, I really think Oscar can beat him. It would be a huge money fight for both to be sure...

I had it pretty even watching live and watched it again and had hopkins by a landslide and watched it again and dlh was up a round or two and again and hopkins was winning....It was a pretty good fight until dlh folded.
Hopkins needs to stay at 160

Dr.Depravity 10-30-2004, 06:56 PM I dont think Bernard has ever even seriously thought of going up. Its a smart move on his part. Why change whats working so well

i didnt have him winning, i thought it was about even when he was KO'd. I wouldnt mind seeing them do it again. The only people that complain about that fight are usually not "true" boxing fans. It was a tactical chess match and I enjoyed it. It was worth my 50 dollars.
realheavyhands 10-30-2004, 09:10 PM hopkins is only fightin 2 more fights

Yeah, I must admit a case could be made for both fighters having the lead, and having it even works for me too. I agree with you, it was a wonderful fight being fought with brains and punches from both fighters. I would pay to see it go down again in a heartbeat.
I really felt for Oscar, I imagine it was a terrible feeling to know you were that close and suddenly you're out of it all together... GOD I LOVE BOXING!!!

yeah, if he could have kept it up and found a way to keep Bernard from imposing his will, he could have very well pulled off the decision, although I love Bernard and what he has done for boxing, that would have been great to see.

Spinx,
He said he wants to fight 5-6 more
why u have to bring up that big money crap, ppl wanna see tarver get knocked out by hopkins, his got enough damn money
hopkins should fight tito n show tito that he aint his level
then give taylor a chance n see if he's got what it takes to be champ or sturm
then winner of tarver-johnson
then he should fight John RUIZ
