All attorneys are required to do a certain amount of pro bono work per year.

Mine is $350. Worth every penny too. He got my off the hook for violating my non-compete contract when my former company tried to sue my ass. They really had my balls in a salad shooter. And no, pro bono lawyers are the bottom of the barrel that can't get a job with a good firm because of inexperience or because no one will have them.

Not true. No such thing as "a pro bono attorney". All attorneys do pro bono work. Even the high dollar ones have to. The bar requires it.

If its for a family law case, and its a simple motion, the state will probably assign an attorney to you at no charge.

I was thinking public defenders, which I would never use. Those guys are free(if you can't afford a good lawyer) and I hear they suck.

Also, unless you're actually going to litigate, having a "good" attorney wont really matter. The paralegal will be doing the work, and it will probably just consist of preparing and filing documents.

Not really. Its all polital in getting people off criminal charges. The prosecuting and defending attornies sit down, joke about you, come to an agreement,(or not) then go out to lunch together. Alot of times, public defenders are new, but there are some who just think the work is gratifying, so they continue it for years. Depending on the charge, you could save yourself about 5,000.00 per felony and get the same outcome. It just depends on the seriousness.

sounds good, are u talking about Cali, Florida, or is that just every where?

Allison

Everywhere. If its consists of something typical ( visitation, child support, custody), I would call them to ask. Its in their benefit to handle the cases and make a judgment because it saves the state money in the long run.

Some. I work in real estate law, know quite a bit of family and criminal defense. I'm in pre-law at Floida Coastal. If I dont know it, though, I can research it.
