Where they differ is that Ali accomplished so much more and yes, he transcended the sport and brought it to new levels. Vitali won a belt, did some decent things but he is not on the same level as Ali.

When you look at Vitali's overall standing, you can only give him so much credit. Vitali never had the type of wins to cement any claim of greatness. If he could have stayed healthy he may have, but then it is just speculation. It is what it is.

On that note, Wlad is cementing his claim of having a much better career than Vitali. Even though I considered Vitali as having far more potential, Wlad is still there beating decent opposition and good opposition. His title defenses alone deserve merit.

Right now boxing is in the doldrums for me as it has been mainly a quick belt money game, but I do see signs of hope.
