I dont know what is causing it, but fortunantly I restored everything and got better spyware and virus protection software. do you ever come to this site and suddenly you hear sounds as if your downloading a file and its come to a complete? I hear that shit all the time when I come here, something isnt quite right but hey Norton takes care of that, get some Spyware protection

Doesn't spyware track the content on your computer, then send you ads and pop-ups based on the content you view? I don't know if anyone else on BoxingScene has ever encountered gay material like RiZoom has.

Not sure how it works exactly, But I will say that my PC has ****ed up 4 times due to the shit, I mean ****ed up everything deleted, I did back up everything on my external drive, and got better spyware and antivirus, but I assumed it was a fluke had I known that other people experienced this here perhaps I would have brought it to the attention of a mod or something.

I have Firefox and have the pop up blockers, et al. I still get this shit. In addition, I'm at work and there is pretty good security here, usually after I get that error I get a message from the security program stating it had to remove an unsafe file from boxingscene.com. Which is great because all of those warnings and shit are stored in a log and anyone can see that I have like 50 warnings from one website.

First off, he is using Firefox. Second, he has AdBlock Plus installed. No need to install a popup blocker. No one needs those if they use the right browser (Firefox) with the right extensions (which are basically like plugins).

I recommend a Firefox extension called NoScript. You have to "train" it, but it won't allow crap like this through at all, you have to allow everything manually. Install it, then view a webpage and right-click it. Look at the NoScript menu. For example, on BoxingScene, all I allow through is the actual site URL. NoScript is blocking 5 other things which I don't even need.

Ensure your AdBlock Plus is up to date -- you need AdBlock FiltersetG Updater extension which you can subscribe to a regularly updated blacklist. Also get Flashblock while you're at it.

I trust you are also using a good firewall. This is the second most vital piece of software after your operating system itself. Comodo Firewall is free and works superbly.

By the way, if anyone does search for SypywareDestructor on the net, DO NOT take the advice or download anything from 411-spyware.com -- these guys are tricksters who fool people into believing they are downloading tools to remove whatever infection it is they have, only to infect your PC with more Trojans and crap like that.

Anyway, I still don't know exactly what's going on, but I'd like to get to the bottom of this so we're all safe. A good site to use for recommendations on removing spyware is CastleCops.

http://www.castlecops.com/f67-Trend_Micro_HijackThis_Logs.html

Download HijackThis (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download5554.html), do a system scan and save a log file. post the log file up onto the CastleCops forums. Of course, you'll need to register first. Chances are there is a free tool to specifically remove whatever infection you have.

Did you download anything recently? Sometimes by erasing the internet files your computer stores as backup, can erase whatever is causeing this. Just try erasing all temporary files that get stored while on the internet. Sorry can't explain it better.

You're talking about Cookies. For those, get CCleaner. This is not a cookie related thing, though, it's an infection of some kind, most likely. Although I'd get CCleaner anyway. A day hasn't gone by in 3 years or more where I haven't used it.

www.ccleaner.com

Don't check the bottom 3 boxes upon installing it. Once installed, take a few minutes to set it up in the Settings section. Any help -- post back and ask me. I used to run a tech help site for many years. I am used to dealing with all kinds of PC problems.

One thing -- if you don't specifically tell it to save a cookie from your frequently used sites it will erase all cookies and you'll have to log back in. This is fine, as long as you remember your passwords, of course.

Norton is not good, and it's extremely hard to uninstall once it's on your PC. There are better freeware alternatives such as Avast. Even AVG is better than Norton.

Norton is bloated and slows down your system.

Me too. Probably gets used about 50 times a day, no shit. I got the right-click context menu on the recycle bin. As long as cookies to my favorite sites are saved it's all good, I can run it as many times as I want. Along with Firefox, I'd say CCleaner is probably the best piece of freeware out there.

Should have kept the name as CrapCleaner, though, that's how it started out!

Sounds like you have your head screwed on, RiZOOM. I wish more people were like you, it'd make life so much easier. Fact is, people get a computer and expect it to just run and take care of itself. As you'll know, a basic cleaning routine with a couple of good, free programs will make all the difference in the world.

Can't remember the last time I had spyware let alone a virus. I've had this computer going on 6 years and it's still working great.

I've always found the smaller, free software to be the best.

You can get half decent protection for free, but I also recommend "Firefox" as your web browser including "Ad Block Plus" along with the "No Script" add-ons, I almost never see pop-ups with this set-up... Also you can get "free avg" for anti-virus protection which works great and you don't have anywhere near the uninstall issues as you would with Norton. Finally for spyware, I'm testing out "Spybot Search and Destroy", it's another free software you can easily download and so far so good...Only issue with Firefox is I can't format my text like I can on IE, but at least I'm not getting any offers from fruit loop dating services lol... There are many other options for guarding your PC of course including a firewall, but this is what I recommend for your basic standard protection, and considering the cost = $0, some of these programs may be worth a try for some of y'all...

LOL, you're pretty much the same as me. Yeah, FileHippo is useful site. I like how it has the latest apps featured on the CCleaner site which I visit daily.

I can't remember the last time I had a virus or spyware infection either -- and the best thing is I haven't run an anti-virus software for about 4 years now. I got sick of all of them, they are usually bloated, and to be honest they never needed to remove anything. It was pointless running an AV.

What I do use is nLite. You may be familiar with this little program. It strips out all of the junk from XP BEFORE installation, anything you don't need gets removed, and my XP, with full SP2 and recent update patches, is about one fifth the size of regular XP. The ISO on the disc it's burned onto is around 140 MB. SP2 alone is over 200, and XP without any updates is 484 MB!

If the most commonly infected files are not there to begin with = very few viruses can infect anything at all.

I use a good firewall, a good, well-configured browser, and enough sense not to click on anything I don't trust. I also know exactly what processes are running on my PC at all times, so if anything unusual pops up in the task manager I'd spot it very quickly.

CCleaner does the same thing for free. There is no need at all to pay for software like the one you linked to.

You only need cookies for the sites you regularly visit so you don't have to keep on inputting your password and username. Everything else can be removed. With today's Internet, everything loads fast anyway. It's true that cookies help speed up browsing up to a point, then after that they slow your PC down and gunk up your hard drive. With Broadband and fast cable connections, there really is no need to hold on to millions of cookie files. How long dow it take to load these forums, for example? A couple of seconds? Then there's no need to keep cookies to every other site you've ever visited. It's surprising how many people NEVER get rid of cookies ever. They take up hundreds or possibly thousands of megabytes on people's hard drives. I've cleaned PC's that were never cleaned before and removed like 2 GB of junk files. It's ridiculous!

The Recycle Bin is no better. At default it's set to use 10% of the hard drive. On a 500GB drive that's 50GB! Now, who in their right mind needs 50GB for trash? Why not just right-click the bin, choose "Properties" and set it to 1%? On a large drive that's still plenty of room for stuff that's more than likely never gonna be needed again. Windows operating systems with default settings = stupid.

Maybe give nLite a try, then. It slipsteams SP2 and any updates you want to add. In fact there's a guy named RyanVM who compiles packs of the latest updates and makes them available for download here:

http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/

nLite is an awesome program. If there are things which you never use in Windows (and most people would be surprised how much stuff is included which is useless to them) it's worth using. It also speeds up installation times dramatically. Even on my PC which I built in 2005, XP installs in 4 minutes flat. It's just an AMD Athlon64 based system. On a recent system with a faster processor it'll be even quicker to install. Also, you can add all the details and set up your passwords and username so it can do a fully unattended install of the OS, you don't even have to be present to fill out all the details during the actual setup.

http://www.nliteos.com/nlite.html

Of course, you need to own your OS on CD. It's a matter of copying the contents to the hard drive and away you go. I've been doing this stuff for years, if you need help send me a PM.

Then use Firefox with Adblock and NoScript installed.

It may be that your browser, which I presume is Internet Explorer, is playing a sound every time a popup is blocked. Disable it.

Go to Tools > Internet Options > Privacy (tab) > Pop-up Blocker Settings (button).

When you get that, open task manager and end the task for internet explorer.. IF you press OK or cancel it still prompts you to try it.

Either way you get ****ed.

I believe this type of pop up you are talking about, is the one that hits you thru the MESSENGER SERVICE. Not to be mistaken or confused with MSN MESSENGER those are not the samething.

Here is how to disable MESSENGER Service

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/learnmore/stopspam.mspx

I suggest you do this for starters. Who ever tells you I have no clue what I am talking about, I will school them.

But um, things you need are a browser other then IE 6.
IE 7 is not bad but still it is IE.

Alternative Web Browser such as:
Opera
Firefox
Safari
Take your pick.

Firewall

and

Antivirus.

I am using Outpost by Agnitum as a firewall because it comes with a lot of useful things in the control panel such as pop up blocker, spyware remover, ad blocking by key words and strings and contents.

For Anti V. I am using NOD32

;)
