View Full Version : Your Punch Output On The Heavybag.
DA1CATAS 05-02-2008, 08:14 PM Today I had my punches counted and I knocked out
ROUND 1 ---- 370
ROUND 2 ---- 349
ROUND 3 ---- 320
ROUND 4 ---- 289
ROUND 5 ---- 200
THATS WHERE I STOPPED.
I THINK THIS IS A DIRECT RESULT FROM THE NEW WAY I AM DOING THE PADS.. THOSE ARE VERY GOOD NUMBERS FOR ME IN THE FIRST 4 ROUNDS.
wHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK OF THE NUMBERS? AND POST YOURS.
Tyson123 05-02-2008, 09:23 PM how much do you wiegh?
sukhenkoy 05-02-2008, 09:33 PM And what was the timing on each round? I think that's pretty impressive, but obviously if you're doing 10 minute rounds (which I doubt you are), it's not very good.
Peterp 05-02-2008, 10:28 PM If there was a device which could measure total number of punches per round AND the power of each punch, then that would be useful. That would give you a total workrate figure
The problem with just counting the number of punches on a heavy bag is the power of each punch varies so much, it could be 500 flicking arm punches or 200 hard power punches.
DA1CATAS 05-02-2008, 10:37 PM I'm 174 ... moving back to 165... got like 45 days left...
The rounds are 3 mins each... and fight rounds are 2 mins.
regardless those are good numbers for me and myself...you guys might be doin better but for my weight i like those numbers.
Versastyle 05-02-2008, 10:43 PM Kudos to you, thats an impressive punch output. I'm starting to switch to doing alot more technique and trying to find out what type of punch combo works the best for me and putting my whole body into each shot. I say I do around 150 a round now.
Versastyle 05-02-2008, 10:43 PM How was the Gloves for ya?

Haha I'm not trying to give you any stick man. I'm just wondering what the time was (I figured it would fall somewhere between 2-4 minutes). In any case, if you feel those numbers reflect upon your improvement with your new trainer and training regime, then quite frankly, that's all that matters. Always strive to do what you feel is best for yourself da1 - others will never get you to really push yourself to the limit.
If you want my opinion, I think those numbers are very good for 3 minutes. Keep it up man.
FIGHTING_FLIP 05-03-2008, 01:48 AM damn, the most i did was like 170-80 but like all different types of punches like not just straight punches like what mayweather do
jberg 05-03-2008, 03:38 AM i think that first rounds really impressive, and to keep up decent results for the next rounds is outstanding. i tend to do some rounds where i go for speed and some rounds where i work my strength and technique
PunchDrunk 05-03-2008, 04:23 AM 3 minute rounds, that's 180 seconds, which means that your first round is more than two punches per second. Obviously an impressive number, but that cannot be done without compromising the quality of the punches. I guess it's okay for the pure conditioning aspect, but I would say tone down the output and focus on some more quality. Everything has it's place at the right time though. :)
jberg 05-03-2008, 04:25 AM ^^ youre assuming the quality has been impaired. for all you know he may hit hard most the times, perhaps not as hard as he could if he lowered output, but having an abrassive wearing down style could serve him well in the ring

I've been in boxing longer than you've been alive, and I train several fighters far superior to Da1 (no disrespect intended), and I know what is possible and what is not. No one throws 370 quality punches in three minutes. It's okay to throw a lot of punches, but that is excessive, and detrimental to the quality of the punches. If what he's going for is purely conditioning, I guess it's okay, I would just prefer more quality, less quantity. :)
jberg 05-03-2008, 08:55 AM ^^ ok fine, im just saying youd need to see it to know for sure

if i didi them like that I'd probably hit like... 600.... just straight 1-2's as short as mayweathers.... i could prally do 600 in a round.
I'm pretty sure all of us could hit a high number in 1 round doing it like mayweather.. imma try that.
DA1CATAS 05-03-2008, 11:28 AM How was the Gloves for ya?
hands became a lil numb... i used 16 ounce gloves for it.. so i thinkmy wraps were just too tight..
my trainers wrap my hands before each session.

Yea... I understand what your saying.
Everypunch couldn't be a power shot.. they weren't...
but when i got tired I started throwing harder and lowered the output... the later rounds are filled with an abundance of hard shot combos and singles..
like doubles on the right hand and hook.
This band training around my body that we do (recorded it'll b up somtime) allows me to punch hard constantly... even tired.. its like great.. im asking myself where'd i get the energy from all the time.
as for the output.. i wouldn't dear throw that many in an AM fight.. (unless they told me too) I would just be able to throw many hard hitting flurries.
the 200 was almost all hard shots.. i stayed in on the bag/close to the body.
Do you do Body band training.. like you wrap it around your waist and you can't punch unless you suit on ya punches.. they said i had more power than i had been using and this would show me how to do it...
its helped alot.
Tyson123 05-03-2008, 11:38 AM Yeah pretty good man.

i think your taking the piss!!
if your not thats an impressive punch output you must have the Cardiovascualr conditioning of a marathon runner!

the 600 punches? i never did that... i stated that if i did them as short as mayweathers i could probably do 600... an that all of us could hit high numbers..
But if you talking about the output i put at the starter thread.. Yup those were the numbers..
No B.S. ... i think its from the new way of my pad work outs. imma post them soon.

Thats damn good especially for your size. Im pretty sure it aint too many other people thats nearly close to that
THE REED™ 05-06-2008, 12:46 AM it all depends... power shots? cardio burnout? light tapping?
Darkstranger 05-06-2008, 06:45 AM I don't think I've ever heard of that?
I've heard and seen that training done before DA1.
Punch Drunk, it's basically resistance bands. I've seen others use cable machines to do the same thing. There's actually a machine they sell now that you wear around your waist, it has cables attached to it with handles and it basically allows you to shadowbox with resistance.
Darkstranger 05-06-2008, 06:46 AM DA1CATAS,
When using the resistance bands, are you throwing fast explosive punches or slower punches concentrating on technique?
Let me know bro?
:boxing:

:boxing:
I throw fast punches... Well as fast as i can go...the bands are so strong and so big that its not easy to keep your fastest speed up...
it all depends... power shots? cardio burnout? light tapping?
I mixed them up.... like every 4 punches I would throw a power flurrie to the body... jab would have to be the softest punches i was throwing... No itentional light tapping though.

but naaa this was just for your wasit.... its like a huge bungeee around your waist..... and the further you go the harder to keep balance and punch at the same time...
A slight tap could push anyone back..
You'll see in ma motivation episode...
