View Full Version : I cried after a sparring session....
FlaminGuru 04-30-2008, 09:28 PM ya thts right i cried after getting my ass kicked. I wasn't crying like "crying" i was tearing up, sniffing and trying to hold it in.
My coach put me in sparring against a guy whose been doing it for atleast one year, but i've been doing it for 2 weeks (10 classes) and i sparred a lot of people and did great, like my coach said i had loads of potential, but this one guy whose close to 6'0 and weighed about 140 LB and i was just 5'6 weighing only 115LB, just tore me down to pieces, it wasnt an ass kick, it was a massacre! anyways, after the sparring session, i was ok, but then i let go my tears and my coach tried to confront me and so did the guy i sparred with, not to mention there were only 3 people in the gym (thank god), and they were supportive of me to.
Anyways i don't know why i'm sharing this, but, i'm not an emotional person, i wasnt hurt physically, i was drained mentally, and it hurt my pride. But i'm taking this beat down and using it as a motivation and try even hardder next time.
Btw i'm 15.....ya make fun of me if u want lol, call me a softy, *****, i know...iknow....*hahah he got his ass kicked and now he's crying hahaha*

Thats ok kid. Thanks for sharing.
It's a typical coach ploy to put you in with a more experienced, heavier guy, knowing that you would get your ass kicked. What the coach wants to see is not the beat-down itself, but how you respond. The session you've just been trough is an early make-em or break-em. If you respond in a determined fashion the coach is sure to pay attention to your development.
Cheer up. Nothing to be ashamed of when you are up against a guy with comparatively much more experience.
sukhenkoy 04-30-2008, 09:41 PM Well man. At least you got the guts to mention it and take the stick from the posters on here - I'll give you props for that.
rj_ct 04-30-2008, 09:45 PM 5' 6" and only 115 lbs. really? not talking ****, i just find that crazy
My Name Is... 04-30-2008, 09:46 PM its all good baby. I am a trainer now, but the same **** happened to me. The one time I really wanted to cry was when I was playing basketball in the 8th grade, I fouled out of the game, and I was the leading three point shooter in the city. I really felt like ****. But its something you have got to go through. Keep it up. This wont be the first ass whoopin you get and it wont be the last.

man crazy i guess thats what happend to me i got put in with a much bigger more experienced guy and my ass was being torn apart for 2 rounds and in between the 2nd and 3rd with blood all over my shirt, on my shoes, and on the ring, he was like you wanna go one more? and I said, oh yeah(i was almost gonna say im done but I looked around and not a single person was working out... 20 people were just looking in silence).
Miraculously I went in the 3rd and actually completely turned the tables as i got a massive surge of adrenaline and i began to box much more relaxed and i dominated the round and even hurt him badly with right hand to the temple. Sad this is tho I never went back after(due to other reasons) and have never went back since cause all i do is get high everyday and have lost the motivation to go back even though I shadowbox A LOT every single day and practice all the fundementals that i learned at the gym.
RonRoss 04-30-2008, 10:08 PM Barrera cried the first time he went to a boxing gym ...
Konstantin 04-30-2008, 10:53 PM Barrera cried the first time he went to a boxing gym ...
lol, how much yall wanna bet DLH cried a lot when he was younger?
DA1CATAS 04-30-2008, 11:27 PM There had to be a piece of you that was angry.. Very upset.....Just wanted to train and come back to injure your opponent.... but it was overshadowed by your tears.
Shame.. you could have let something lose.
No worries amigo, it happens to almost everyone. I remember I had been boxing for about 6 months and I got into the ring with a guy who was sparring for the first time and he beat me up pretty bad. I almost cried because I was so frustrated and he hit me with a real good body shot, but fortunately I held it in. But hey, I'm still in the gym working hard to this day. A lot of guys get beat up in the ring and they just quit. Stick with it.
Nothin to worry about, i almost cried the other day as well actualy cause i had a horrible day then while training it seemed like nothing flowed and like i was starting from square 1 again. So i started thinking "why the **** am i doing this?" but it happens to everyone you just gotta go out and try your best
Bendigo 05-01-2008, 12:26 AM Getting beat in sparring isn't what will define you as a boxer. Even crying after you get beat in sparring isn't what will define you as a boxer. Whether or not you come back to the club the next day is.
~Lucky13~ 05-01-2008, 12:26 AM Lmao!! Pwned!!
I got my ass kicked by Hector Lizarraga, he hit me to the body like 5 times and I was tearing during the match, after wards he gave me a kiss and said he was proud of me. at this point I had been doing amateur boxing for a while and I must say that this ass kicking, more so than the wins, has served me in all aspects my life. everyone should go through it once.
YOU DONT GIVE UP!!!
them_apples 05-01-2008, 01:43 AM 5' 6" and only 115 lbs. really? not talking ****, i just find that crazy
He's only 15, I was 5'4 110 lbs in grade 9, and I was pretty inactive.
..David.. 05-01-2008, 02:09 AM well although i have never felt that way i really understand the feeling of getting ur ass kicked hahaha when i was starting i did (i still do ) sparring with lots of pros without ever falling down but taking massive beatings, but the first time i was put on my butt it was pretty humiliating for me,
but remember this kid, thats what a sparring its for, dont be sad be happy it happened in the gym. You will be prepared if it happens on a real fight.
It doesnt mean anything to be beaten on a sparring session its just training put your best effort on it, and try to be better next time.
Darkstranger 05-01-2008, 08:41 AM First things first, I've got a lot of respect for you for posting your experience on an internet forum!
I've never cried but I have recieved my ass whupping like many others have stated. For me it was the other way round in that my first experience of sparring was against an experienced international Welterweight. He was born in the UK but fights for Cyprus, he only just missed out on going to the Olympics this year. I'm Super Heavyweight and at the time weighed 251lbs.
The guy hit me from all angles, I couldn't even see his hands, all I felt were the punches rebounding off various sections of my skull! lol Just as Ali said Foreman would do: I needed to call the police because I felt like I was surrounded by 5 people giving me a beat down!
Like someone else had mentioned, it wasn't done for humiliation or just for the ass whupping. It was to see how I'd react.
Keep up the work bro!

PoetryInMotion 05-01-2008, 09:50 AM Your coach putting you in the ring with a bigger, more experienced guy just shows how much confidence he has in your abilities. He wanted to push you to your limits, now any guy you fight at your weight class will be a walk in the park almost when compared to this bigger guy. Don't make your coach think he was wrong about you, go back and train hard for a few months, then request to spar with the same guy who beat you, to see how much you improved.
sterling 05-01-2008, 10:07 AM This has happened to me i was against someone i usually spar hes younger then me and i was very out of shape at the time im 5ft7 and hes same hieght as me but wieghs 8kg more.
I didnt do any runnin at the time or much training i only went gym twice a week at the time so i wasnt that much in shape that he was.
Hes 13 and im 19 so i was very frustrated in myself because of how out of shape i was he had already been boxing for 3 years so he had the expierance and extra wieght on me.
He beat my ass i was against the rope takin shots i cud barely move because of a well placed body shot i was so disappointed.
I went to the toilet and cried a bit then wiped of my tears i duno if he knew i was cryin or not i was more or less weeping not crying out loud.
I was very disappointed with myself because of the age difference but i learned that day it doesnt matter how old u are u can stil get beat by the younger man.
Ive had alot of beat downs but that one sticks in my mind the most because of how i felt.
I understand how you feel man nice to share.
jberg 05-01-2008, 01:12 PM i had a bit of an ass whooping, after my first spar a guy a year younger than me, a few inches shorter, and lighter asked to spar me. he had been boxing for 6 years and i had done a month. he just worked me hard. i didnt cry, but it gave me a good waking up that i needed to work harder
MissDeeCole 05-01-2008, 02:00 PM you *****! lol
mr tricky 05-01-2008, 02:43 PM its ok to cry in boxing,
i find it amazing at the amount of people who have responded and admitted to crying aswell,
how many other sports do you see people crying, its because thats the sport boxing is, people want it badly, even tho its seen as probably rthe hardest tougest sports in the world its ok to cry,
if never atchuly cryed but come close many times when been beaten badly by others,
but it spurs you on and makes you come back better
johnjamieson 05-01-2008, 02:48 PM the first time I sparred I got a beat down from someone alot older and more experienced then me. I shed a few tears and felt like crap, but the next day I was in the gym training harder then before.
ElGranLuchador 05-01-2008, 02:59 PM its ok man its better to happen in sparring
that way u wont cry when u get ur first beating in the ring on a ppv like cintron
rj_ct 05-01-2008, 03:21 PM He's only 15, I was 5'4 110 lbs in grade 9, and I was pretty inactive.
i guess i just have big bones or something. i was probably about 5'5" when i was 15 and weighed a little over 140 lbs. granted i was playing hockey 4-6 days a week. but 110-115 seems almost unhealthy to me.
jadagod 05-01-2008, 03:56 PM Nothin to worry about, i almost cried the other day as well actualy cause i had a horrible day then while training it seemed like nothing flowed and like i was starting from square 1 again. I know that feeling!!
there's nothing wrong with that, my bro told me that one day he had a really hard traing session (kickboxing) and it was really hot then he had to spar his trainer and afterwards he burst into tears and he don't know why it just came out!
Russian Express 05-01-2008, 04:49 PM Bro, i can I give you the best advice anyone out of all this lot will give you. Don't share thoughts like that with people in the future. It's quite odd that most people have responded in such an amicable fashion - the majority of people in this world are not like this. And it's only making a rod for your own back when you share feelings/emotions like that with people you don't know.
90% of people are glad you have problems, the other 10% don't care.
My view: stick at it, everyone takes a beating from time to time.... just come back stronger.

Have to disagree on your percentages a little, close, but not acurate.
jberg 05-01-2008, 05:05 PM ^^ i sort of agree, but hes on a forum, virtually anonomous. this is where you can say these things. i personally wouldnt admit to it to a boxing friend, its another chip in your armour

Truth is most boxers have gone through with pretty much the same thing and are happy to empathize and help motivate. Even tho not everyones cryed, ya'lls had a kickin at some point!!!:boxing:
sterling 05-01-2008, 07:07 PM ****in hell cintron has cried lol and nigel benn cried when he lost to eubank boxers cry all the time even mayweather lol when he beat gatti it doesnt matter.
fraidycat 05-01-2008, 09:48 PM I've said it before on here; the first time I took a savage beating in sparring, I cried like Nancy Kerrigan. It took me many months of sparring to learn to separate the emotional and psychological trauma of being punched from the physical pain, but it can be done. Keep at it; it gets better. :boxing:
West24 05-01-2008, 10:21 PM i have never cried because of taking a beating in sparring. but one time i just finished sparring for about 11 rounds straight. i was physically and mentally exhausted. i sat down on the bench to take my wraps off, and i started to think of things in my life, and i started to tear and had to hold back from completely crying. these were things i had thought about before but never got that upset about etc. when youre so mentally drained, weird things can happen to you, doesnt mean anything. and anyway, anyone who is going to make fun of you for crying is a ***** anyway. i practically never cry, but that doesnt mean anything. real men can cry, people who have to put on an image and arent real will make fun of you for doing so.
Unanimous 05-02-2008, 03:26 AM Good post.
punchDrUnK MONK 05-02-2008, 09:24 AM dont feel like a ***** man. by the time ur 18 u will never be gettin beat up in sparring anymore. ur young, stick with it...
im 20 jus started 7 months ago, i got beat up in sparring once n almost cried too.. i didnt even feel upset or nothing, i just felt tears trying to come out.. i held them in but just not a good feeling.. da1catas said it best, it can be used in a productive way but it takes time to learn how.. i personally still havent learned how... but i took a few beatings since that time and never feel any tears coming in, so it passes. makes u stronger.
makaveli_uk 05-02-2008, 11:09 AM Look man, just think... 2 Weeks?? You've been training 2 weeks?? Hold your head up man.. When you've been training half as long as this guy you'll get him.. Just remember, it happens to everyone and everyone gets frustrated. Don't hold a grudge against the guy, he was doing what he was supposed to.. Kepp ya head up.. What ever dont killa ya can only make ya stronger!!
Keep training. Use this to fuel your fire for your desire to box.

LOL Come on man! :P
wmute 05-02-2008, 12:25 PM The first time I had my ass kicked in sparring was my first sparring session, as the first round was ending the motherfuker was 10% short of going all out... mostly on my chin. I did not feel like crying, because i discovered I had a good chin (bigger, more experienced guy teeing off your head and not going down...i felt tough), but man did i have a headache that night!
Another time was due to lack of conditioning (had only recently got back to the gym after 1 year of no boxing). I ended up being too tired to throw, it would have been a TKO. Even this one did not really hurt my spirit, although the other guy was less experienced than i was. just told me to go out and run more miles.
The last one did, it was a good session, and I knew the guy was better than me, a bit shorter, same weight (145-150), but I was keeping up, it was close, then I started landing some more shots and got excited, forgot about protecting my torso, the guy was landing his right to my plexus again and again until I had to take a knee. I felt so stupid and arrogant, my partner really made me pay for thinking too high of myself as a boxer. I remember thinking how awesome it was that I was landing 2 punches at a time, and thinking that pain at the stomach was nothing, until i was like wow cant really breathe that easy.. feel like throwing up... Massive humble pie for me, i used my brain much more when sparring since then.
~Lucky13~ 05-03-2008, 10:36 AM It's NOT OK to cry in boxing
man up you little *****, this is boxing!
~Lucky13~ 05-03-2008, 10:37 AM you gonna end up looking like cintron if you lose, you really want that in your life?
Boxing is a tough sport.... you are only 15, so go easy on yourself, train harder and you will only get better. I ate two hooks in my 1st sparring sessions and didn't like it too....:puppy_dog
FlaminGuru 05-03-2008, 02:14 PM i'm only worried about going back to the gym, it'll be emberrasing for me.
lol hopefully i wont end up like cintron, cuz i alrdy faced an ass kick in sparring.
I guess i jus gotta try harder, i'm sure thts the last time i'll ever cry in boxing.
i just don't know what my coach will say when i go to the gym (took 2 days off)
thanks to every single one of u, even tha ones callin me a ***, i guess thats still advice, its gona toughen me up anyway.

man up you little *****, this is boxing!
lol i'll keep that in mind thanks
fraidycat 05-03-2008, 02:40 PM lol i'll keep that in mind thanks
**** him. The only shame would be in not going back. If getting your ass kicked comes easy -- without an emotional toll on you -- you're in the wrong sport.
2swell k-wells 05-03-2008, 03:01 PM lol u wuss
FlaminGuru 05-03-2008, 06:12 PM well i would say my childhood is pretty tough, and i thought boxing would be my only way out, u know escaping from all my hardships, but when i got beaten up taht badly, i jus gave up, i thought i wont be good at anything, but mentally i'm fine now, i'm going back as soon as poissble, its jus gona be emberrasing for me, i dont want my coach to think i'm an emotional person i don't want my sparring partenr to laugh at me either, even though he's a good person. lol
sterling 05-03-2008, 07:55 PM glad to see ur going back thats the way forward gd lad.
West24 05-03-2008, 07:56 PM man dont worry about it. the people who really care about you as a person/fighter will appreciate it and see you as a real person. if i saw someone cry after a sparring session i would just go up to them and tell the to stay with it and not worry about what anyone cares etc. noone worth your time is going to laugh at you because everyone cries.
MikeBrew328 05-04-2008, 02:24 AM IMO, if you stick with it, that experience is the best thing that will ever happen to you. And if you stick with it, the first few months will be a lot more of the same. Especially with the bigger guys. I been through the exact same **** started at 15 sparred with bigger guys, got beat up. Give it a year and you'll hang with all them, it only makes you stronger.
futurechampion 05-04-2008, 07:37 AM its good to cry
The Victim 05-05-2008, 01:13 PM i got my ass beat once...but lets not talk about that, lol.
sweet*science 05-05-2008, 01:26 PM Hey man I just read your thread. I been boxing for about 7 almost 8 months now. Within my first two maybe three months in the gym they threw me in the ring with the pro fighter at the gym. He was way more experienced than me, stronger, quicker, smarter as a fighter, bigger and taller. He whooped my ass for about six rounds. After leaving the ring I had bruised ribs on the left hand side and a black eye. My pride was hurt but I quickly got it together after seeing my trainer hop in there with him, who is smaller than me, and sit the guy down on his ass! I was impressed. Keep it together bro!
iron_boy 05-05-2008, 11:53 PM hey kid, dw ive been through the exactly same thing. you cry coz ur pissed off at your performance not coz your scared bu take this as a lesson just like i did and keep on coming IT WILL PAY OFF!!!
bentur123 05-06-2008, 05:52 PM im really impressed at the response to this post, id would have been easy to mkae fun of this kid for crying ( theres no reason to but sum people are just c****) but instead people have been supportive and i get the feeling its appriciated, no doubt this kid will get bck into training now and become a good fighter instead of just leaving boxing because of one bad experience and sum idiots on a forum
Talon 05-08-2008, 02:06 AM once when i was in little league baseball i wanted to pitch and i cried in front of everybody because i kept throwing balls. i wanted to run off the field and cry but they made me finish the inning.
its ok if you get your ass kicked.. the good guys have gotten plenty ass kickings probably at a very young age. at least you had the balls to get in the ring unlike most people. LOSE THE EGO.. dont be shy about sparring in front of people. what does it matter if in the long run it makes you better. then in 2 years you can spar and you will be the one winning against a new guy in your very same shoes. thats what happened to me
ive been beaten by someone 16 years old when i was 21. he had 80+ amateur fights already. sparring him, he always wins, and has been the only person to put me down (with a body shot) i have learned a lot from sparring him.. i watch him whenever chance i get to pick things up.. i also have seen him beat LOTS of people.. i mean LOTS.. so me losing is no big deal. he toys with everyone
after seeing him fight other guys.. i realized even though it seemed like i was challenging him, he was going really easy on me. i have never underestimated anyone since that happened
i also thought i was so good because i was fast.. untill a fat guy danced around me like muhammad ali and i couldnt hit him. then another fat guy beat the crap out of me for 4 rounds and wasnt even tired at the end.. i hurt so bad i rolled out of the ring under the bottom rope and laid on the dirty floor for 15 minutes
i am still friends with everyone though. nthing personal, all business.. the one that toys with everyone comes by to shake my hand sometimes that means a lot to me coming from him
danny stash 05-08-2008, 10:40 AM hey kid its all good. Crying is an emotion that gets out pent up frustration etc...
Now just get back in and train harder!!!
Terror Child T8 05-11-2008, 03:02 PM yes its a typical trainer thing to do. you see trainers look for talent, and as well as giving its inevitable you will recieve alot of shots as well. your trainer isnt stupid and new you were gonna get your arse whupped, its how you dealt with it which is what he wanted to see, he already new the result, he just want to see your reaction.
honestly and truthfully trainers dont like wasting there time with kids who just go to boxing gyms to "keep fit" or to feed theit male ego, i seen guys cry at my gym and till this day i havent seen my trainer do pad work or anything with them once since.
even if you cry but say fuk it lets go another round, you will get your props, but crying and then not showing up for a further 2 sessions just looks like you got your arse whupped and your too scared to return
NaThBoiii 05-11-2008, 03:19 PM Yep everyone else is right, your coach is just seeing how you react.
A few months ago i was put in with a really big fella must of had 30kg on me. Anyway he has an amazing work rate and didnt stop coming at me and he landed so many clean hard hits on me i was dazed in the ring. After that sparring I did go out of the gym and cry because i was disappointed in my performance but it didn't stop me going and i was back the next day which gave my coach a big boost of confidence in me as he knew i knew what i had done wrong and in my opinion it just makes you wanna work harder.
FlaminGuru 05-11-2008, 04:14 PM no no
after that weep, i just took two classes off, from physical pain, and recovering mentally, by the time i knew it i went back, my coach was glad to see me back, and he's puttin me in sparring again. i won't ever be crying again, i' felt it the first time i feel stronger mentally, and i've toughened up.
P.S - i'm still surprised over how many users went through what i went through
and said nothing, i guess it was just time, until someone said it and i did,
and ppl are responding like crazy.
mickeyb 05-11-2008, 06:14 PM My coach took me to another gym and put me in with a lad who was well known to be v.aggressive with sparring - cheating aswell. He did everything, head butt, low blow, clinch throughout - he was a good 15kg's more than me. The reason? "Because you're one day in the ring going to have to face with someone/thing as aggressive or mean or horrible as him. Best face it now in a controlled area.
Bad thing was, i kicked off in the sparring. Swearing at him, calling him a "****ing idiot" for trying to break my arm. As soon as i got out, i wish i'd kept my cool.
NaThBoiii 05-11-2008, 07:00 PM Why did you wanna keep your cool? did you get knocked the **** out after? Only joking
Used to get the same treatment while playing football (soccer) stuck in with full grown men who gave me some hard knocks. The only difference is, that I quit and you kept going at it.
Feint 05-11-2008, 08:51 PM Don't worry about it. Sometimes we all are on the loosing end, whether its sports or anything else in life. You tears were a result of your passion, and that isn’t a necessarily a bad thing. Character comes from how we handle those experiences so use this as a learning experience. You will be just fine.

SOY-COMO-SOY 11-24-2008, 10:17 PM ya thts right i cried after getting my ass kicked.
So im taking it as you were crying out of frustration. this has happen to me a couple of times in my life and i now this has happen to almost everybody
If i was you I wouldn't give it much thought. The guy was bigger than you, and the only reason you cried is cuz you were so frustrated.
my coach puts some people in mix-match sparring, either to give the fighter a reality check or to boost a fighters self-confidence. I just hope that yoru coach or that guy you were sparring w/ dont tell other people in your gym cuz they wont listen to your side of it, they will just laugh but dont sweat it
JulioCesaChavez 11-24-2008, 11:51 PM Did you go home and ask mommy for milk and cookies?
oc9979 11-24-2008, 11:58 PM i was doing boxing when i had time and one time the coach put me with this guy he was about 240 or so im at 230 pounds but i was just starting boxing. that guy just punished me. that was my first sparring. the my second he put me with a faster guy. i did good for the first round but damn the second round he was hitting bomb on me. i was still learning. but it was a good experience
Domey 11-25-2008, 12:43 AM I didn't read much of the responses, other then rj_ct about your weight / height. I use to fight at 112, 115, 119, and I am 5'7. I now fight at 125. Anyways.
What matters here is not that you cried, not if people made fun of you, not if you got your ass whooped, beat, knocked out, anything. What matters most, and what the coach wants to see, is..
Did you go back? If you did, then that says something about yourself and I am sure your coach would be / is impressed.

thats not too shameful, yuor only a year older than me and were outweighed, outsized and had less experience
dont worry bout it and keep training
KostyaTszyu44 11-25-2008, 03:24 AM i guess i just have big bones or something. i was probably about 5'5" when i was 15 and weighed a little over 140 lbs. granted i was playing hockey 4-6 days a week. but 110-115 seems almost unhealthy to me.
im 5''4 and fight at 100 pounds
BOLLOCKS 11-25-2008, 03:39 AM Barrera cried the first time he went to a boxing gym ...
Yeah, But he was like 7 years old. When Barrera was 15 he was turning pro. Not crying after sparring sessions. :D
Undefeated 11-25-2008, 03:40 AM Never cried, but when I get hit... I don't get mad either.... Just that I made a mistake, and I wanna try my best not to let it happen again. Being emotional isn't good IMO. Don't let it get to you. I used to be like that, but as time passed... Im not like that anymore.. When you get hit... Don't blame yourself, just give yourself a reason to not get hit with that punch again. Might sound weird, but that's how I think. I use my head A LOT in boxing... You can call me a Cotto.. I keep **** to myself... Im quiet.. I get my work done and focus on MY mistakes. Gotta get back to the gym pretty soon. Next month... Ima be going through some hell. I might have to skip the AM's though..... Due to personal reasons...I don't think my body will hold up through the AM's, but im confident in my skills if im promoted properly. I will be training my ass off.

It shows heart to come back after being beat and humiliated. That would impress any coach.
keepthemhandsup 11-25-2008, 06:30 AM meh i heard it happens....don't let it bother you....in fact it sould motivated you more....
JulioCesaChavez 11-25-2008, 07:20 AM It shows heart to come back after being beat and humiliated. That would impress any coach.
Depends what you mean by comeback? You're being ambiguous. If he just cameback to the gym or went back in the ring that session and put out the same performance, then I do NOT think so!! If he cameback to be a better fighter who didn't cry like a girl then yeah, that was what I was saying.
My experience of top trainers are that they are cold heartless ****ers, and extremely professional. They are not quite so empathetic as you and I. They are waiting for YOU to go out of YOUR way and impress them. If they saw this, they would think oh he's crying BIG DEAL. Trust me mate, they do NOT give a flying ****. What he would ahve to do to impress this coach is go back to gym and instead of crying train hard enough to kick some arse. This may be the unpalatable truth but this is how top trainers (even in the am's) operate. In some gyms that I have been too, they would actually ask you to leave after doing that.
chilly9876 11-25-2008, 08:12 AM Maybe they're just like that with you chavez. Cos i would be if i was a trainer.
You're aka rafael benitez and all the other names you've been banned with.
Secondly with some users you say you dont box, in others such as this one you say you box and have been doing for years.
The truth is that you're an internet warrior who comes here to be brash and ****y to somehow try and compensate for you shortcomings in real life.
kamicazze 11-25-2008, 08:15 AM *****! joking kid i cried when i first lost 2
britnostalgic 11-25-2008, 08:54 AM I sparred with a pro years ago, in the first round I was catching him with everything... he didn't know what hit him, so he upped it a level - and so did I. This guy was getting beat pretty bad and everyone in our Gym stopped to watch. This was a guy that had fought around eleven fights and I'd never stepped foot in a pro ring. Anyway, after the longest three mins of his life I was taking my gloves off and he came up and said "two more rounds". I was knackered as I'd put everything into it and originally he said only one round. I came out the 2nd round and dropped him with a low right to the body, he made it to the third round and basically I got my arse handed to me... I nearly cried because I felt I'd let my trainer down and club.
That night I went home and cried for about 5-10 mins in my wifes arms... then she said "that's how I know your a real man".
I've never fought the guy since, but he respects me and I have a lot of respect for him. He said to me about a year after, "I thought you were gonna beat me that night... but then you just ran out of steam, work harder man". Strange how we have kinda ended up good friends.
Anyway, work harder man.
JulioCesaChavez 11-25-2008, 09:04 AM Maybe they're just like that with you chavez. Cos i would be if i was a trainer.

Haha, stupid alt in the red! I never said I did not box because I have, so number one you are lying. Number two, they were never like that with me coz I don't cry like a girl, and finally if you knew anything about boxing you would know it is a discipline sport. In most cases a cry baby cannot cut it and in clubs with less facilities you don't need an emotionally weak person lacking in ability crowding up the gym when you have WAITING lists.
All I am saying is non-recreational gyms may show you door as a warning for serious people who may be fooled into thinking its ok to be a girl crying to mom for cookies and milk! I was fifteen not so long ago and it sounds more like something a 5 year old would do. I've never seen a top fighjter cry, just ******* so if you want to cry like a biyatch then just go **** yoursel 'chilly'.
Oriachim 11-25-2008, 10:27 AM I've had my ass whooped in the ring, but I just kept coming back. Its not our fault that we keep getting put in the ring with people 30lbs+ bigger than us cause we're so skinny. Infact in my last real fight, I was winning first 2 rounds... then i get hit flush, standing count, then the guy slaps me, standing count... then i block his hits and my corner throws towel in, when nobody agrees with him. To come back after that takes deterimination.
ironalex 11-25-2008, 11:05 AM Thats ok kid.
Cheer up. Nothing to be ashamed of when you are up against a guy with comparatively much more experience.
cosign what this guy says.
slickwalt210 11-25-2008, 11:23 AM crying?????? wtf ???? the boxing ring is no place to cry. if you are over ten years old and crying in the ring, ur soft.. boxing is not your sport..lol i boxed amateur for 13 years and never thought of crying, even when i lost in the olympic trials in 96'....

pull yourself togeather you big girl, if anything is worth having then it's going to be hard work getting it, suck it up, take it as lesson learned. You are brave enough to get in the ring most people would crumble at thought you did'nt.
I would wager you were more angry than upset.

Lol ya thanks for the mixed replies, that day i cried lol, i went to the gym the day after.
Not only that, the guy i sparred with, beat me up everyday but i still went back, not crying this time though, its been a while since i did.
So the guy i spar with rarely shows up now, and now i bully people my size.

Maybe your confusing me with alot of the other amatures or new fighters on the board. I have been fighting since I was 8, I am 24 now. I've won plenty of tournaments, been to the finals twice in the Golden Gloves, as well as the National PAL tournament. I've beaten many ranked amature fighters, and of my five losses(completly robbed three times, but thats another story), one of them is a world champion.
I have been and am trained by a 2 time former world champion, and also trained by his old coach. So do not assume I am in some casual gym with blue collar fighters.
Reguardless if he cried or not. The fact remains he got his ass handed to him. He also came back to the gym and from his response, has done well for himself. So going from the little boy that cried to doing well, that shows alot to any trainer. If you do not agree, well then, I don't know what else to say to you.

Lol, that is well tight! No need for that.
You americans love to talk about your feelings alot. I've noticed that by looking at some of the posts in here and it sounds like a bunch of girls consoling each other! 'It means alot to me' and 'you done well and I cry too' and aqll that shiot might be OK for you lot but IMO is too feminine for the temperament of a fighter. It's probably what caused Oscar to laugh and smile like a gayboy after being robbed by Tito, who knows? If he was more manly, even though he is one of the best he would have have been better and KO'd that one dimensional bum instead of running around. Also, the whining and *****ing after getting PWN'd in other forums is no way for a fightrer to behave. IMO all fighters would do well to man up and stop being so effeminite. Crying is for girls and will get you nowhere. Not saying this guy should quit like some people mistakenly interpret, or that it is game over and he doesn;t have it in the bread basket. All I am saying he should stop crying as it is no good and get back to business. People shopuld stop condoning this punk ass ***** ***** boy behavious.
Domey 11-26-2008, 03:43 AM You call people punk and ***** and what not, but you yourself do not even talk like a fighter. You talk like a punk who uses his words to intimadate people. You never see fighters after fights cussing and acting like a big badass whatever whatever. Fighters are respectable.
Just because your job or hobby or whatever is to fight, does not mean you have to push your chest out and walk around like you are some hot shot. I would be more worried going into a fight, fighting someone who sits down quietly, then some loud mouth like you.
TheTruthIs 11-26-2008, 04:10 AM I've seen this thread many times and have never opened it...but it is about what I expected...
If any lesson is learned here, I think it would be to not tell a buncha peeps on a boxing forum you cried. Lotta false bravado on here...
Meh, I dunno...**** happens, emotion wise. I know a friend of mine who came to our gym for a while, got his medical and all, and on the streets is tough as nails...within maybe his 3-5th time sparring and first time in with me, I gave him a really hard body shot (and I shouldn't of...cuz he was too new) and dropped him hard and caused him to well up. And he is no *****. I kinda felt like a jerk after...because it embarrassed him and I let go on him way to hard for his little and lack of ring experience. Don't know for sure what was going on in his head, but am pretty sure it wasn't..."oh my, you hit me hard you meanie! booo hoooo"....was more likely something like..."Fuk me...I can't breath or move you rotten fookin mofo'

I do sit quitely before fights. But I'm tough, somtimes moody or volatile and do not cry like a woman! Simple as that. I never said a fighter has to walk around with an attitude, chest sticking out and mouthing off. You gone off to opposite end of the spectrum. You don't have to talk about your feelings and cry like a girl either. Touchy people never make it IMo. They always end up crying like biyatches and quitting. Doesn't mean if you cried once you cannot change. I got no idea what you are on about, but I never came across a decent fighter who was amateur or pro and not an alpha male. It is a macho sport whether you like it or not. Guess what, they're beating **** out of each other in the ring! Good for you that you have had 100's of am's. I've had enough of that **** and will be turning pro after my Dec 10 medical, so I got my own **** going on for me there. I could stay in am's but I see no point in hanging around for 2012 when I can make money and probably win titles by then! Trainers say I am a boxer-puncher who is more suited to the pro's. Maybe you like to pitty patter which is why you're still in the am's. Good for you! But don't start crying after events no matter what type of gym you go to yeah...

I am still in the amatures because at 18 years old I got into a car accident and fractured my neck. I was suppose to turn pro after going to the Golden Gloves that year but it never happend.
I took 6 years off from boxing and went through tons of therapy for my neck, and just this year got back into the ring. I have my last amature bout on the 13th and then I am turning pro like I was suppose to years ago.
I hate the amatures. I have been fighting in them since I was 8 years old, and I have been in the gym my entire life even before I started training. Hell I was practicly born in the gym, as my family comes from a line of fighters. I didn't even want to goto the gloves this year but my promoter said it would be good to get a few more amature fights since I have been away for so long, and he was right.
I do not fight like an amature at all, my style is more catered to a professional fight.
As to the question about how many fights I've had. I have had well over 50 fights.

FlaminGuru 11-26-2008, 08:04 PM Yo kid if your still around...how's it going with the training??
very good, wha people forget to understand is this post was actualy a pretty long time ago, i just duno how it got bumped after all these months. Ya but training is awesome, i spar pretty much everyday, the guy who beat me up rarely shows up now, and now i'm starting to pound people my own size. Mentally i'm as tough as ever,
JulioCesaChavez 11-26-2008, 08:14 PM I am still in the amatures because at 18 years old I got into a car accident and fractured my neck.
I didn't ask how mnay you had. How is this relevant to a 15 year old young man crying? ANyway, I have had about half of what you have had but think it is more than enough as I have bear sparring with top pro's for a while now. I never seen anyone over 10 cry TBH apart from one guy who was a biyatch!!

I never said you asked, however someone did.
You've sparred with top pro's for a while, well congrats. I've sparred with former world champions since I've been down in the gym, Mickey Ward being one of them. What are we having a pissing contest now?

You are too gay to realise it was mean't to be bear. You lack the intelligence to understand everyday slang terms. It means loadsa sparring. I never drink digusting beer which stinks and was made for redneck bums, and this is actually a PDA not a 'puter' , geek!

That wasn't my idea but since you mentioned that bum, I would say you lose! It is not just normal sparring, I forgot to point out that I get paid for it because I am a proper badman. Even so, I never even seen an average journeyman type fighter or novice cry liek a girl. They don't cry in am's too. I'm just saying what I saw, not saying it is end of world for FlaminGuru as he is only 15.
well i guess i'll c u in the topAnd I might see you there too. Youi have no idea how young 15 is! Stop crying and keep trying. YNWA.
TheTruthIs 11-27-2008, 03:50 PM haha ^^
Pretty easy to get your tight little panties in a twist isn't it. Sucha tough guy. :la:

There is a pic in my profile of my fighter of the night trophy. I have no idea how to upload video's and do not even have the equipment. Us dinosaur europeans are well behind tyou tech geeks and most of my fights were filmed on an old tape camcroder as our club does not even have a digi cam! I wouldn't have the equipment or know how to plug it in to laptop anyway. Don't be giving me any instructions, as my generation just about missed out on ICT lessons at school. I just about know how to use IE. Boo hoo for me.

eman-resu 12-03-2008, 03:28 PM probably adrenaline.. I felt that way after skydiving and it was a huge rush
DoubleZ711 12-04-2008, 12:49 AM Damn dude the only time you cry in this sport is if you win. If you lose, you suck it up. If a guy went to my gym and started crying after a SPARRING session he would get thrown out... its just not supposed to happen. If you cant handle this sport then its not for you man..
mishka80 12-04-2008, 01:11 AM Whats the point of crying after sparring anyways?
You win some, you lose some.
nystate0fm1nd 12-05-2008, 12:33 AM I'll never forget the first time I sparred. It was ridiculous. I went in against a guy who was slightly taller (I'm about 5'5 and was 120lbs at the time), but weighed a lot more.
Well, we go in and I was just jabbing and jabbing and not slowing him down at all. Every time I threw a punch he made me pay. I was getting rocked a lot. I think it was the 2nd round, I ducked a left hook, came up with my hands a little low and got slammed by a hard right hand directly in the nose. It was the hardest shot I've been hit with ever but I didn't go down or anything. I thought my nose was running profusely and I was like wtf. I put my glove to it and my glove was covered in blood.
I didn't cry or anything but it felt ****ty. I figured whatever, I was new at it so I'd get better. I was in the gym the next day ready to sparr again. I got beat up a bunch of times since then by pretty much all bigger guys but it's all good. I'd rather get beat up in the gym than in the street.
Squabbles94806 12-05-2008, 09:40 AM ya thts right i cried after getting my ass kicked.
15? It's aiite. I know it gets overwhelming in there sometimes. Adrenaline, pressure, emotion. It's a fight right? I feel ya dogg. But ya gotta tuck that ***** in. Me personally, i hate crying. There's nothing wrong with crying. I personally just feel weak when i cry.
The guy you were sparring probably took all the fight out of you. And your emotional response (crying) was in a result of your frustration. Here's a nickel's worth of free advice. Communicate with your coach. After a couple rounds and you don't feel in tune, ain't no law to step out of the ring. I bet your coach would respect you more if you said, " A coach, i think i need more work. Can i step out?"
It's all gravy mayne. Boxing ain't no joke. It's a real man's sport. It's all about heart.
Just don't quit. Don't take this negative experience and get discouraged. Recharge your battery, and say "fcuk it" next time.
Trrmo 12-05-2008, 12:38 PM When I was about 12 or 13 I sparred with a bigger 16 year old. At this stage I was inexperienced and the coach just got us to do body punching, no head shots. This big kid though kept getting in a hard shot to my head. I wasnt used to taking punches at this time so once I remember going home in tears. My dad just told me to punch him back in the head, so next time I sparred even though it was body shots only, I threw a big right at his head...and missed, threw a big left...and missed, then a big right....and whammo straight on the chin, wobbled his legs and the coach stopped the sparring, he looked like HE was gonna cry after that.
So the point is, at the beginning stages it can happen to everyone. You just need to keep going back and train harder and learn as much as you can.
