View Full Version : how to get your speed to a reaction point?
rawtyson 04-30-2008, 02:20 PM by this i mean, instead of thinking about throwing a punch you just do it. how long does it usually take to get to that level from shadow boxing, heavy bag work, and speed bag work. I know genetics, body type, etc. have to do a lot with it, but what would you consider the average time length?
makaveli_uk 04-30-2008, 02:35 PM Your never going to get to the point u punch without having to acatually do it if u get me, otherwise u'll be hitting people pointlessly :P
You'll always have u make the effort to pounch.. But over time the effort will become less and less needed until it's so easy to just jab.
practicing only one thing a few thousand times a week will help a helluva lot. of course, your mind has to be basicly clear to get the most out of it in an actual fight. but repetition has to be there where you could do that one thing in your sleep or without thinking about it.
many basketball players have been in that no-thinking zone which inspired phrases from both players and commentaters about "being unconscious." basketball players practice so much that when they really need to turn it up, and everything clicks, they really don't have to try because it seems to just happen.
as for the time variable, this really varies a lot. i've seen some people start to get it "clicking" after a couple of years. some seem to spend years and not be able to get to that state. so, i imagine that for most it is very hard.

ive experienced this unconscious thing, back when i was younger i played alot of cs, it requiers some skill. And when i was at my peak and would do the sickest ****, i was unconscious. Its strange how the mind works with certain skills.
