View Full Version : Anyone in here a smoker?
OldSkool 04-28-2008, 12:11 PM i've been smoking for a good few year now and its an minty habit which i plan to kick sooner or later. i stopped recently for 6 weeks or so but started again and am pretty done in to be honest. i managed 6 weeks or so last year as well but for some reason, i always start again.
Are any of you lot smokers and do you have any useful tips for stopping. dont give me the stupid ****ing "dont start" crap coz its a bit late for that.
any advice appreciated!
kayjay 04-28-2008, 12:12 PM I have a patch on as I type.
After a six-year hiatus I recommenced the habit about a year and a half ago, when I had to give up playing footie (the main reason I had not to smoke).
It's a pain in the ass to stop, but the patch does ok.

yeh the patches work ok. but i always forget to use them and have came to the conclusion that using patches might all just be a mental thing.
when i stopped before i dare say i wore the patches less than half the time and it didnt bother me one bit.
how long since your last ciggie kayjay?
Mozza 04-28-2008, 12:18 PM I have smoked for about seven years but in the last year or so I have only really smoked when I have been drinking. I have always found ir pretty easy to stop when I want to. Apparently eating fruit and drinking milk helps some people stop. Not sure why.

I took a day off from quitting yesterday so had about 10. Today I put the patch on first thing out of the shower, though I'm sure I'll rip it off and smoke one tonight

i find myself in a similar situation. I dont crave them at all and can go all week without evening thinking about one but as soon as start drinking its like a sudden wave hits me and i need to smoke lol. i guess it must be like that for real addicts all the time!
Nothing better than good old will power to stop but im not one to comment on that because i like it too much when pissed to bother to stop haha

I think if you dont smoke 20 a day and keep ya self relatively fit by playing sports or whatever you like to do, you wont have that kind of a problem.
I play alot of squash so manage to maintain a good level of fitness. My weekend excesses dont appear to impede my fitness..Yet! lol
TommyGunn. 04-28-2008, 01:38 PM None of the **** like patches work i heard, its all down to will power.
x-PeROxiDE-x 04-28-2008, 01:38 PM A lot of the addiction is the actual smoking of the ciggarette, rather than the nicotine itself. Chewing gum works wonders for me in work when I can't smoke because it stops me thinking about putting a cig in my mouth. Keep your hands busy too, fiddle with ****, elastic bands, paper clips, anything, but just keep em busy.
Wont help when your drinking because then its the nicotine you crave, but a few sly ones on a weekend over a beer is a lot better than a packet a day, stick to that for a while, then think about quitting full stop.
I don't smoke never have and never will.
And it's the smoke that you breathe in that kills you not the cigarette.

I was a smoker but I slowed down and used WD40 which has solved the problem.

Spambo boy 04-28-2008, 06:09 PM i gave up two years ago after my daughter was born, i found it easy.
however when my son was born in september last year i started again but only for two months.
Both times i found it easy to give up but i think you have to be in the right place mentally.
