I've NEVER boxed before, I'm wanting to get into the sport and i was hoping ya'll could give me some pointers, so here's a video of me hitting a heavy bag(sorry its only 20 seconds long) I'll appreciate any feedback you can give me! Don't criticize me too much lol

from that vid it looks like you may have a decent physique and some natural speed, but just join a gym and you'll soon find out if you're cut out for it.

Thanks for the feedback man, it's nice to see a boxing forum that does something beside talk ****. I lift weights a lot, thats why I have a somewhat decent physique, and I'll definitely look into joining a gym! I'll keep ya'll informed and post more videos once I get my speedbag and start sparring with people.
Thanks again

good post, start getting your conditioning up and running and id say start doing this afew weeks before starting up because it will be that much easier to get started ahead. you ever been to a boxing gym before? well from my experiences ill tell you this
*Listen to your coach
*dont get distracted by some of the bs or others that come in
*At first keep to yourself unless you are aproaced(trust me ive heard it tons of times and you guys probly know what im talking about when other guys in the gym see a new kid is there.)
*Its just like real life, theres goona be some weird people there!
*focus foucs focus!
*dont ask or call someone out to spar untill you can hold your own(big mistake new guys make and end up paying for it!)
any other questions you got just pm me.
and by the way i am stating this from my experience and some of the gyms ive seen and train at!

Yup, get to a gym. Youll learn everything there. Im sure your in good shape since your still in school and have physed but start running every other day and do some conditioning (www.rosstraining.com). When your lifting weights keep the reps low and weight high, dont do bodybuilding **** (8-12 reps chest + bis monday back + tris wednesday for example) that **** ruins you for reasons I dont care to type out since its long winded. If you can work any 1 thing make it legs. good luck man keep us posted on your progress.

Your not bad for a 15 yr old who has never boxed before.

A few things you need to work on:

* Throw the punches with your whole body, twist into them. Alot of your punches were mostly thrown using just the arm, especially your jab.

*Get a bigger, heavier bag. This will help develop power and stop it from swinging around wildly.

* Aim up a littile bit, you would of been throwing to his chest if he was your height.

*Throw your punches from your jaw, not from your waist, this isnt Karate

So basically just keep the basics in mind when working the heavy bag, you can learn these basics from a gym or an experienced boxer. Good luck with your boxing!

I almost forgot! get some bloody boxing gloves! they will make you faster and protect your hand from those sledg hammer punches you will develop, i reccomend you hit the bag with 16oz.

i dont meen to be mean but guys why are you telling this guy lies?

fair enough he has just begun so its what you expect, but dont tell him he has potential and he good n all that,

he looked like he was randomly shagging that bag, there was no control what so ever and no jabs or anyting or any other proper boxing punches ,

he just showed a random 5 second outburts of he waking a bag?

ok so youve just begun ok..

first slow down, your tryingt way way to hard

learn your punches,

throw to the head, you kept throwing below the head

jab , jab, 1,2 , move, keep your hands up, box!

dont just randomly wack it as hard and fast as you can, its goota be controled and everyting,

your are a beginner so you should olearn, defo joj a boxing gym and learn to box of internet learn your shots, and learn you stance, and learn all the 1,000,000 other thigs there is to learn about boxing

i agree withauthority, but besides that tbh theres no way to judge from that video. you may have speed for 10 seconds, but wat about stamina? you may have a low fat physique, but noone knows how powerful he is or how heavy that bag is. well done, for starting boxing and taking an interest. go to a gym, do some sessions, and if you like it, get kitted out and work hard.
welcome aboard

exactly, doing 15 punches at 100mph means nothing when done for 10 seconds
id have rather seen 3 solid punches

Alright, sorry it took me so long to get back at ya'll.

-Thanks for the advice boxing4ever, I've never been to a boxing gym, but I was in a grappling/UFC class...I got my ass handed to me, everyone in there was 22-34 years old, so they just threw me around lol

-Landon S can you give me more information on the reps, and why do it that way? I usually do 3 sets of 10(or to failure) when lifting, but I'd like to learn about your way.

-Thanks Fidayin

-Thanks a lot twanky1, yours was probably the most helpful reply. Yes, I do need to work on my punching, hopefully the trainer at the gym can help with that, if I can't pick it up by myself. You didn't mention this, but I also need to work on my reach, i mean i got some long ass arms but it seems like im standing the same distance from the punching bag as people with shorter arms. Alright I'll save up for a 100 lbs bag (I have 80 lbs bag in video). The last two things you told me involve my punching, which hopefully can be remedied by a good trainer. Last but not least boxing gloves, i have 14 oz, 2 pairs, i was just in the mood to use my gel gloves lol

-WithAuthority im sorry you don't like my username haha, by the way is that you in your pics? you're really pretty if it is :hitit: lol

-mr tricky thanks for your reply too, good to see someone with a complete opposite opinion than other people

-jberg i have Excellent stamina in my opinion, i was hitting the bag a lot faster and harder for about 30 minutes beforehand, i just remembered that my new camera can do video so i decided to test it out. trust me, i can go a lot more than 20 seconds lol, i did it mainy for a camera test, then i saw ya'lls forum so i said what the hell i might as well see what they think. and the bag is 80 lbs. thanks for your feedback though

jberg
04-27-2008, 04:00 PM
yeah i mean with your physique i did expect you to have decent stamina, but i was simply pointing out that 15 secs of bagwork makes it hard to give pointers and evaluate someone
well done though for taking the feedback well and good luck

Sometimes people don't post pics or videos of themselves because they're not a slave to vanity.

The way I see it is, if you're the sort of person who is happy to post pics/videos etc onto an international public forum then you gotta expect you're gonna get slated. And, your fringe is a ripe target I'm afraid.

i personally would never have made the comment comparing him to manny(no offence but the styles arent that similar, especially in a 15 sec vid) or the fringe (seeing as i used to have one). i think its just a bit rare to find fringes in boxing if im honest, because most people choose shorter hair.
have you found a gym yet?

Jab man.

Work on footwork. Get to a gym. That's all I can say. Its not about hitting.

Its about getting hit and hitting back (if you can or are willing too)

Watch some videos of famous fighters. You'll learn. That's how I did. It works. The eyes don't lie.

Practice the jab man. That's the best punch anyone will ever learn!

you've got gay hair lol

but besides that you've got fairly fast hands , a good natural asset and you look quite fit. but youre punching downwards and you're standing all wrong, but you look okay for a beginner. so yeah just get to a gym and maybe the barber shop lol

Well good news everybody, I got a buzz-cut! So now my hair shouldn't be a problem, since I look similar to everybody else..so much for people showing their individuality lol
Oh and Dyl-G, **** you, if i wanted to show off my body i would be posting on a bodybuilding forum, and i would be flexing in my video instead of hitting a god damn bag, dont hate cause a 15 year old is 10x more fit than your dumbass
Aside from that *****, thanks to everybody else for the advice, im having trouble finding a gym though...there doesnt seem to be one in my area :ugh: the closest one is a hour and 25 minutes away

Logo of your heavy bag should be eye level. Keep your hands up. Never throw punches in combonations for more than 2-3 seconds straight.

No offense dude, but your avatar's freakin me out.
This ain't myspace.
A half neked pic with silly hair and a goofy hat ain't gonna get you girls here, and it's not going to get you respect.
Your physique's not going to intimidate a real gym rat, he'll just see you as an opportunity - a target to KO and make himself look good.

As far as your video goes; once you go to a gym, they'll teach you not to do hamster style anymore.
