View Full Version : Anybody spar with competition headgear? FIGHTING_FLIP 04-19-2008, 04:20 AM just curious cuz lately ive been sparring with my competition headgear and just wanna know if theres anything wrong with that. Boxerguy2008 04-19-2008, 11:52 AM just curious cuz lately ive been sparring with my competition headgear and just wanna know if theres anything wrong with that. I figure it would be fine. I mean it could even be better to train in what you actually fight in. I haven't been training long(about 2 weeks) and I just use the different headgear at the gym to get a feel of what I should get for myself. boxing4ever 04-19-2008, 12:06 PM I only train in competition headgear 7 days before a fight, because theres no point in sparring in a barly padded open face headgear for a whole year because it doesnt protect shit. kbpoetree 04-19-2008, 12:47 PM i only have one pair of headgear and its my competition...it dont matter its all good....i dont get hit anyway tho....lol fraidycat 04-19-2008, 01:13 PM It would take a lot of beer to make sparring in open-face headgear sound like a good idea to me. DA1CATAS 04-19-2008, 08:43 PM I only spar in my competition headgear... But that guy makes a good point why not use the protection while your practicing... I think i'll start using my protective one again now that i actually think about it. bluehefner 04-24-2008, 01:08 AM i used to spar with it to nothing (bought it 2005 dont know if they got new padden or some new layout) but the 1 i had got hard on front cause of the gel lol DeymarPR 04-24-2008, 01:21 AM I always spar with my comp. headgear on...I actually like it better than a training headgear FIGHTING_FLIP 04-24-2008, 02:04 AM yuuup with my cheeks protector headgear on i feel like i cant see shit..with no cheeks, i feel unbeatable boxing_great 04-24-2008, 03:04 AM i dont know what the point is with those open face headgears! the ones that amateurs use. they are so pointless and offer no protection whatsoever.the only thing they have is slight protection against a hook, and im not sure if they even have enuf padding, its a rort. rmz 04-24-2008, 05:36 PM Actually...competition headgear has the cheeks as well. The difference between competition headgear and training headgear is the padding. Training headgear is more padded than competition headgear. Here are some examples: Competition Headgear: http://www.ringside.com/detail.aspx?ID=25831 Training Headgear: http://www.ringside.com/detail.aspx?ID=25827 Darkstranger 04-25-2008, 09:59 AM We usually spar in Top Ten headgear at my club which is open faced. But we have got a head guards with more padding. I don't really have a preference, I just pick one. http://www.martialartshop.co.uk/images/newequip03/topten_head.jpg Evil_Meat 04-25-2008, 12:39 PM It would take a lot of beer to make sparring in open-face headgear sound like a good idea to me. haha... I've never sparred with anything but open face headgear. vBulletin® v3.7.1, Copyright ©2000-2008, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
