View Full Version : Weight transfer during the left hook.
Bendigo 04-10-2008, 11:29 PM Which direction should you transfer your body weight while delivering the left hook. My trainer tells me it's best (as an orthodox fighter), to transfer my weight toward my right foot. But, I've read that some prefer to transfer the weight directly forward. Which is most proper?
Also, is there any way I can improve my speed on my hook?? I think my speed on my jab and cross are sound, but my hook feels really laggy. Thanks!
Versastyle 04-10-2008, 11:31 PM Transfer it to your left knee when you bend. You should get maximum power when you come back up and swing.

JayCoe 04-11-2008, 12:26 PM I wont say this with full confidence as I know I could be wrong, but I believe you transfer most of the weight over to the right, with some movement forward. I always believe a series of left, right, hooks are pursely awesome when done right, it will truly shake the other person as they are just getting hit left, right, left, right , it will tire them quickly, hurt them and drive you forward towards a knock down as it would certainly disorientate them to move their head in such a motion repeatedly. I would say a cross hit would drive forward though.
jberg 04-11-2008, 12:59 PM its transfer from left to right, and twist your front left foot
or at least thats what im told
however there are different methods
and it depends on proximity of opponent and context

spot on, then if you were to follow with a straight right you would push off your right foot (back foot).
THE REED™ 04-11-2008, 02:35 PM Right Glove next to the right side of ur face
Throw your jab...
Bring your jab back right away, and keep it up...
as your jab comes back... simultaneously push off with your right foot with a twist (almost like ur squashing a bug), use ur thigh... twist your torso, and throw your right hand while twisting the fist... keeping the left up...
Bring your right back quickly to the side of ur face... shift ur weight to ur left knee... twist ur lead left foot to the right, twist ur torso with it to get leverage on ur hook... keeping that right up by ur face...
pull ur left back to ur face, and shoot another straight right hand across....
if the left hook is going to the body... u definitely wanna go down with the knee a little bit, placing ur weight on that knee, to get leverage...
if its a left hook to the head... ur weight is alittle more evenly distributed, but still twisting the lead left foot and torso to get leverage
