If a spaniard is filling out a form what do they say their ethnicity is? Caucasian or hispanic

Hispanic, but generally considered caucasian due to a European decent as well.

I think they would probably consider themselves caucasian, I'm not an expert on this subject though.

Spaniards don't call themselves Hispanics do they. At least not the way it is used in North/Latin America.

I have always wondered this.. I thought Portuguese, Spaniards, French and Italians all fell under one category which was Latin or something?
One thing is for sure.. they may be caucasian but not anglosaxon or whatever you call it..
These four look nothing like the other white people of europe.

A person from Spain is caucasian.
Hispanic is not even an ethnicity, it's something made up.

Spanish people are just dark white people. Kinda like how you get light skinned and dark skinned black people.

Those Puerto Rican Fat Joe looking guys are hispanics though.

Hispanic is anybody deriving from a spanish decent in one way or another, so yes, they're hispanic. But if you're categorizing them like you're in a ****ing biology class, then yes, they're Caucasians first and foremost.

The spaniard is darker than the rest with excption of Sicilians and gypsies. That is due to the Moor influence and intermingling. Have you ever seen novelas, plenty of blonde spaniard lineage. Also, Cortez was described as tall with a red beard.

You're right. They don't look white. I doubt most Spanish people are blonde.

A clear example is the Spanish National soccer team. The only blonde guys I can think of are Joaquin and Torres, and if you go a few years back then Mendieta. Just seems like most of their guys are not blonde

It now refers to the culture of Spanish-speaking peoples, namely in Latin America and Spain, or countries with a historical link to Spain, such as the Philippines, as well as the people of those cultures, whether in their native countries or abroad.

i get things like this: being a human racial classification distinguished especially by very light to brown skin pigmentation and straight to wavy or curly hair, and including peoples indigenous to Europe, northern Africa, western Asia, and India

europe.. that includes spain , i've never heard of spaniards as being hispanic, i always thought only latin american people were hispanic, and it doesn't really make sense to me, since spanish people don't have anything to with latin americans, besides cultural aspects, not racial

During the 1970s, the United States Government defined the term "Hispanic" to identify Latin American individuals, and their descendants, living in the U.S., regardless of race.

The ethnic label Hispanic was the result of efforts by a New Mexican U.S. Senator, Joseph Montoya, who wanted a label that could be used to quantify the Spanish-speaking population for the US Census. The label Hispanic was chosen in part because in New Mexico, people of Spanish descent such as Montoya referred to themselves as hispanos which was anglicized as "Hispanic".

The U.S. Office of Management and Budget currently defines "Hispanic or Latino" as "a person of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race"

This is truly one of the dumbest ****ing posts I have read in a while. I am a "hispanic". Where the **** do you think "we" got our last names from? A gift from Queen Isabella to all the ignorant indians in America?

99% of "hispanics" can trace their lineage back to what most call the "motherland", stupid. Just like early North American settlers can trace theirs back to England, among other waves of immigration.

The main reason most of "us" are "brown" is because early spanish settlers, unlike English Pilgrims who came to America with their families, came alone and many had children with native south americans.

My grandmother is from Barcelona Spain and my great grand dad from France, my grand mother on my father's side was Chinese. Hispanics are not a race, but an ethnic group because we share certain cultural similarities. Most of us are of multi-racial backgrounds... Call us mutts if you will.

Or do you really think ****ing Peruvian ex-president Alberto Fujimori, Bolivian president Evo Morales and Chilean President Bachelet are from the same racial group.

I don't call myself "hispanic" because that's not a race of people. Technically, anyone who speaks spanish is a "hispanic". So you can be lilly white and speak spanish and be "hispanic".

As far as the mother land, I don't call Spain the mother land and neither does any Mexican I know or ever heard of. Not one street, statue or monument was erected or named after Christopher Colombus or Hernando Cortez because in Mexico they are not looked upon as hero's but conquerer's that killed and raped the people and culture. **** Spain.....

We are not "latin" either, because we don't speak latin and we don't come from latin based language countries. Even though Mexico now speaks Spanish as the majority language and it is derived from latin, the ORIGINS of Mexico are based in Uto- Aztecan languages...Nahuatl and Otomi along with like 200 other indian dialects.

The proper term is to say you are from whatever country you are form i.e, "Mexican","Peruvian", "Bolivian" ect.

I prefer the term Chicano because it more describes who I am culturaly. We are not "Latino's" or "Hispanics", those are terms that white people gave us to classify us and it's all bull****.

 you didn't call me one but you talked to me like i was
it's not an ignorant post, it was about spaniards being white , which is RACE, not CULTURAL, which i agreed on that there are simularities
it's not because you mixed generations ago that you're the same race
the portuguese colonised angola as well, and they took over last names and cultural aspects too, but there are still big differences as well, so i don't consider them the same cultural or racial group. same with latin americans and spanish people.

I agree with your displeasure of the terms hispanic and latino as well. I don't like them because it does not take into account our Indian as well as African roots. It is based soley on Spain and its language. It seems that this is more important than our Indian roots. Therefore whenever I have to check a box for government purposes, I always leave it blank.

I call myself Mexican or mexicano, because that is what I am. I was born here in the US, i could call myself chicano as you do but prefer not to. I really don't like divisions between us as a people. I understand that our experience in america is unique to our brothers and sisters who come from Mexico , but I see myself as Mexican because there is no difference from me and a person who comes here from Mexico.

I respect that and I agree with the exception that if I was to go to Mexico, I would feel like I'm in a foreign land. Even though I love Mexico and fell at home at times there, it's still hard to assimilate when I was born here and raised here.

Well in Mexico it is indeed different. If you speak in choppy spanish , you might get put on blast for it. Then again, my cousins ,friends and everyday peolple never made it an issue with me or brought it up. They saw me a regular dude, who was not a show off or thought he was the **** cause he was from the US.

That happens here as well with us, mexicans coming over here and can't speak english or thier english is thick accented, and we bag on them.
