View Full Version : Billy Dib, another Aussie being thrown to the Lions?
RED ARMY 04-08-2008, 05:14 PM Well guys, there has been lots of talk of this Aussie taking on the possibly best younger boxer in the World, Jorge Linares.
http://www.********boxing.com/news.php?p=14959&more=1
Unsurprisingly, i have never seen this lad fight. On paper his record would suggest he seems a little inexperienced (To put it mildly). So what is he like?, whats his style?, has he got a chin?, more importantly can he be competitive and can he win?.
Now, i have seen Linares fight a few times, and he honestly looks like boxings next big superstar. Admittedly Larios is a little long in the tooth, but the way in which he was completely beaten in every department was highly impressive on Linares' part. Might sound a bit OTT, but he really does seem to be the complete package, and at such a young age.
Any thoughts?.
:luvbed:
Hmm...that should say "********" in the link . Can't even say the words "east" and "side" together .
brently1979 04-08-2008, 06:46 PM I've seen Dib struggle with much much lesser guys. No way Dib can win this one.
RED ARMY 04-08-2008, 07:10 PM Whoa, is it really that grim for him?. What about that other Aussie lad, that a lot has been mentioned of, Willie Kickett, how good is he, would he be able to push Linares? or is he not able to drop down like Dib for it?.

Dib shouldn't be in the same ring as Linaires.
RED ARMY 04-08-2008, 08:50 PM Bloody hell that is grim lol.
infestacide 04-08-2008, 09:37 PM Bloody hell that is grim lol.
dibb is a poor mans naz who gets hit twice as much. Kickett is good, actually his probably our brightest prospect talent wise aslong as he stops putting his fist through windows.
infestacide 04-08-2008, 09:38 PM oh btw you can catch kickett on youtube. I think his fight with 2 time world title challanger tommy browne is on there.

Yeah, Kickett the brightest prospect we have for sure. I hope he can come thru with the goods. At least he's still young.
mgkirkpatrick 04-09-2008, 01:47 AM infesta said it best. dib is a lesser version of naz. he has decent speed, great reflexes.. the big difference is he doesnt pack a punch. he's a strange character too. no way he wins this fight but maybe he'll be a titlist in the future.
willie kickett has massive potential. he gets world class sparring, chris john and jackson asiku i think are at the same gym. he's only 20.. has good speed.. a great bag of punches.. looks to have a good chin.. and i think his promoters will bringing him along the right way.
his win over browne in his 7th or 8th fight impressed me for sure.
RED ARMY 04-09-2008, 02:45 PM I take it this Willie guy, can really Kickett then?.
Sorry that was bad! :biggthump.
BennyST 04-11-2008, 11:25 AM I can't wait to see how Kickett turns out!!! Very excited about him and what he should be able to do. He has everything you could possibly want in a fighter. Most of all, speed, defense, combinations and brains. Unlike Dib he seems to have a good head on his shoulders and seems pretty level and tough.
As for Dib fighting Linares, I think that it's a very bad move on his managements part. He's liable to take a massive beating and have his career ruined. He has the potential to be a good fighter but taking on Linares at this stage is insane and a death wish. Linares is in his peak prime time and is quite experienced especially compared to Dib who has fought basically no one.
If they want him to reach his potential they're going about t in a very strange manner. There are a million and one better fights that make more sense and are more likely to keep him in boxing. He needs to build up his experience and world level competition before taking on what maybe one of the best fighters around at the moment. It's just crazy, I really can't understand what they hope to achieve by this fight! Dib could work his way up the ranks slowly while getting all this sparring work with Mosely etc. and getting good fights that suit where he is at, experience and skill wise, and with the contacts he supposedly has he won't be short of possible fights.
The big problem I see with this is that Dib, if he keeps on the way he is, will have many opportunities in the future when he has the proper experience and fights under his belt to fight for titles, because the possibility that he is going to lose this fight is really very, very high and it may be a bad loss and could ruin any future he has, with the way boxing seems to work these days. The rewards are obviously quite high, but, the risk involved for this fight is absolutely huge, and it seems like they are scared this is his only opportunity or something?!?
From fighting no one to going up against Linares? What the hell are they thinking? Crazy.
Anyway, could be a good fight, so all luck to him and I hoep he can pull it off. Would be amazing.

yea, pretty good what you wrote there. You couldn't be any further from the truth..good point.
why the rush, he has only had 17 fights or so..build him up slowly, and get him to fight only when he is ready for that world title.
aussieboxer2320 04-14-2008, 07:05 AM dib is a brilliant young boxer, dont put shit on him.
aussieboxer2320 04-14-2008, 07:17 AM im a bit sceptical about kickett, its pretty easy to look good when youre fighting bums who have to fight every 2 weeks and have already been ko'd about 6 times

yeah sweet tommy browne is still a better "Bum" then any1 dibb has fought. Come on man, Dibb might be good, but he gets hit alot and sure isnt ready to step up yet

Dibb isn't ready and Dibb to me didn't seem all that fast.
aussieboxer2320 04-14-2008, 07:54 PM dibs last fight was a bad performance compared to a few others hes done, hes fought better people than kickett has (kickett is still fighting domestically hes only had 1 or 2 overseas) dib is fighting and beating some solid featherweights over there and he is bloody fast..........
aussieboxer2320 04-14-2008, 07:55 PM welll your right in saying he isnt ready to fight linares, i dont know who said that it seems like bullshit
BennyST 04-15-2008, 06:53 AM dib is a brilliant young boxer, dont put shit on him.
I really don't think anyone is saying anything to the contrary. I'm certainly not hanging shit on the guy and I don't think anyone else is either, but, good as he may be, he is not ready for a Linares fight which is the whole point of this thread. This isn't a 'shit-on-Dib-thread' mate. It's a 'why-the-hell-are-they-putting-him-in-with-Linares-thread?'
Dib has the potential to be very good and with the right moves, management and otherwise, he may very well become one of Aus' better prospects in the future, but this is really a very strange way of going about it unless they know some amazing thing that no one else knows....or they have never seen Linares fight!!!
So just take it easy, no ones shitting on him. We're all just slightly baffled...actually one hundred percent completely confused as to why the hell they would be considering this fight. He is in no way ready for a fight of this caliber. He is in no way ready for a fight with any of the top contenders to be honest. He still has a long way to go, and from what I've seen, he seems to struggle with the mental side of boxing. Whether it's because he relies on his ego from his skills which can't take you too far (if you rely on ego it has to be a deep strength from knowing you prepared harder and better than anyone else, not just that you're naturally faster or whatever), as we saw with a guy like Hamed or whether it's because he has a fragile mind anyway, I don't know?
Dick-Sucker 04-15-2008, 09:50 AM From what i have seen, i think Dib must be a party animal. And Oscar and Mosley just love him for it. Because he hasn't impressed me in the ring yet. Maybe it will change, hopefully he will impress me.
But i see him being stopped against Linaires.
apollo creed 04-15-2008, 10:40 PM tsk tsk tsk
This is horrible match making if its true. Linares will rape Dib, the kids not ready yet.
