Mundine-Soliman III not sanctioned

Mikkel Kessler promoter Mogens Palle said Wednesday that he has checked with the World Boxing Association and has been informed that a May 28 super middleweight title defense by Anthony Mundine against Sam Soliman has not been approved. Mundine has announced the third bout against Soliman is set for the Vodafone Arena in Melbourne, Australia. Palle said the WBA had not even been asked to authorize Mundine-Soliman III. "Mundine won a vacant title in March 2007 and has now gone 13 months without making a required mandatory defense. We have asserted our rights and told the WBA we're ready to make Kessler-Mundine II a reality in the end of May or the start of June....I would hope Mundine would prefer to try Kessler again rather than having his world title stripped for not complying with WBA rules. He does refer to himself as 'The Man' so I would really hope so. It is a WBA world title and is not limited to a WBA Australian title." Former champion Kessler, now the WBA mandatory challenger, previously outpointed Mundine in June 2005.

hahahahahah I hope the WBA enforce the mandatory, that would be awesome.

The funniest part about this whole debacle is for some bizarre reason people seem to think that Mundine is the WBA champ, he is not, never has been, Calzaghe is the champ and Kessler was before him.

True - He's the claytons champion :) But he struts around like he is the real McCoy. Time to face your demons Anthony. If you dare!

Whenever this fight gets brought up I try to remind myself it could fill the 168 lb Ring belt vacancy to keep from gettin annoyed about Kessler dodging Miranda. That's the only thing that makes this fight mean anything. Everybody knows Mundine's strap is worthless since Joe C has the real WBA belt, along with all the rest of em including true dibs on Bute's IBF belt which he never even lost.

Joe C is now a LHW. So he is the champion. Even though i hate to say it.

Im still keeping my money on Nasser naming Winky or Taylor ASAP to get the WBA away from the Kessler fight.

But it looks like Palle is forcing Mundine into a corner he can't back out of. And for this, Mundine is only two fights away from unifying the division. If for some weird reason he was able to beat Kessler, im sure his confidence would be sky high and he would take on Bute straight after.

Enjoy this. Chocs career is at a vital stage. He can either get smashed like were all expecting. Or he has the chance to back up the strong words he hasn't let us stop hearing for the past 8 years.

Calzaghe is still the champion, i bet that none of the sanction bodies strip him. They will let him keep the belts, and in all likelyness his next fight will be at 168 against Pavlik.

On another note, well done to the WBA for once.

No he isn't.

JoeC is having one fight at Light Heavy and has not vacated, he is still the super champ.

You can still fight in other weight classes and retain your title. See Pavlik's last fight as an example, it was at 166 and he is still the middleweight champ.

Pavliks dad won't let him fight Calzaghe.

Calzaghe will finish his career with RJJ.

Choc must be sweating hard over this! The WBA have been under fire also for not making Choc fight his mandatory which is 13 months overdue. Mook out for Mundine at a cab rank near you for he'll be choosing his next opponent!

Can someone explain to me the deal with Mundines WBA belt? What exactly does he hold?

Mundine holds the CDBA (Cab Drivers Boxing Association) Title not the WBA Title or alphabet/paper machie/garbage title or whatever you want to call it.

See the thing about it is Mundine lets his paper title make him who he is. It really should be the fighter makes the belt what it is, not the belt make the fighter. Mundine doesn't even hold a 'Real' Title like Ring Magazine which is the most honest broker of the sport.

When he won Title in 2003 he was still a paper champ cos Ottke held proper Title. And how long did Choc hold it??? 3 months??? Got dropped by Pa Nishizawa and looked like a scardey boy when he came up against Siaca who floored his ass. What kind of a garbage Champion is that when he can't even hold the title. A real Champion holds the title for 3+ years and makes over 7 Title defences.

Look at the 'Great' Joe Louis, he held the Title for 11 years and 8 months with something like over 25 Title defences. This is what you call a 'Real' Champion.
