View Full Version : So, I walked into my gym tonight...
P4PKING_2008 03-25-2008, 04:48 PM And my trainer says I've matched you up to fight on thursday in Liverpool. I was like wtf?!?! So he proceeds to weigh me that night and I weighed in at 125 pounds I havn't been running at all since the new year and I am not at my fighting weight at all. But, he said thats good just put on 5 pounds and the guy your fighting is a Lightweight.
Should I take it and put on 5 pounds in 2 days and fight or just **** it and fight someone my own size?
I have until tomorrows session to decide if I can.
JayCoe 03-25-2008, 05:28 PM It's your decision, 5lb in two days isn't easy but the most striking thing is the fact you haven't run since the New year. Suggests you're not at peak fitness (true?). If you've got the heart to fight, then fight, but remember, boxing isn't football, you can get hurt if you're not ready. Not only would you be fighting somebody above your usual weight but you suggest that you're not physically ready. What is it that you want to do?
DA1CATAS 03-25-2008, 05:33 PM If you havent been running...
You had better been doing 5-7 minute rounds on everything insted of 3.
If not.. then i wouldnt even be fighting.

I am fit enough to put up a good fight I feel. But, I know I should be working harder by doing more running. I just want to know if anyone has been asked to move up in a few days for a fight and how they fared from it. Also, how much would a difference would 5 pounds make bearing in mind it would all have to be through eating as not enough time to build muscle.

Nope tonight I just did 2 minute round with 30sec rest against 3 different sparring partners all welters and middleweights. Not recommended then?

ummm can u take the fight at ur weight now? thats what i would do..whats 5lbs..i spar damn heavyweights and lights all the time i know there is a difference between sparring and fighting..but i'd rather take my chances at the comfort weight i'm at now instead of tryna gain..

Nah man the fights at lightweight so I need to put on about 5 pounds to get there. Chances are he would be a heavy lightweight or a light lightweight if ya get me. It is just that with his weight and if hes a lanky cunt I would have no chance I am 5'9" so only small. But if hes a small cunt it would be an easy night for me.
sterling 03-25-2008, 06:42 PM hey man im bigger then u im 130 pounder and i can tell u it matters on your metabolism too u could be gaining **** loads but takin it all off.
Fuk that 5 pounds in 2 days no way in hell i cud make that and i dont think a 122 pounder would be able to.
Im not sayin u cant stuff ur face and make it but theres a difference with makin wieght and making fighting wieght.
Whats the point in takin the fight jus for a loss?
DutchDynamite 03-25-2008, 08:55 PM If you are a guy that is always in tip top shape. In the gym 6 days a week. Running, sparring, eating healthy, you are always in fighting mode just like the marines or closer to home - the firemen, ready for action then yes but you are none of that. Your opponent is ready, he trained for this, he is focused, possibly some one backed out and they need a replacement.
Don't do it, save your self and TRAIN for a fight, work your self to it, get the adrenaline going, get ready.
my 2 cent
But if you will go, of course i am on your side
Clegg 03-25-2008, 08:56 PM My advice is that you don't do it. Aside from not having done any running for a few months, you'll have to eat a lot of bad food and then fight someone who is naturally bigger than yourself. He'll almost certainly outweigh you on the night, and if he's in good shape his weight won't be made up from having ate lots of bad food so close to the fight.
By the way...Liverpool? I kinda assumed you were American
kenny91 03-25-2008, 09:09 PM i think 5 pounds should be a piece of piss really if u contribute enough to making that weight but as far as fightin fitness then i guess its down to hunger and devotion. i personally would take the fight cos hey a fights a fight :) but thats just me if ur a little thrown off n like wtf n u think ur prob not ready then clearly the hunger isnt there either cos hunger comes with a ready mind i spose so id prob ask to delay the fight.
kenny91 03-25-2008, 09:16 PM however as far as physical readiness is concerned, well that could be an issue from wat uve said able not runnin for a while etc etc so best bet is to still fight the guy if its a fight handed to u on a plate but ask for it to be delayed
mickeyb 03-25-2008, 09:23 PM go fight!!
5lbs? thats 2 kg's and either way...the old men at your bout are gunna allow that to sway.
You're either a fighter, or you're not.
aussieboxer2320 03-26-2008, 02:35 AM fight him, even if you dont put on the 5 lbs they will still prob let u fight. just eat plenty, not too much junk and get your mind into the zone, however if you have mixed emotions or you arent psychologically ready for the bout, then its not a wise decision to fight
P4PKING_2008 03-26-2008, 09:32 AM Thanks everyone for ya contributions. There is a lot of mixed feeling about this. I am gonna see how I feel tonight sparring or training and then decide. Micky I think your right they would let it sway at 5lbs.
If I do it I will most lily get overpowered by the weight but I would be quicker, not realy fitter though. ah...decisions.
mickeyb 03-26-2008, 09:40 AM I'm always comin in over weight. But because i'm short they often say "fair enough it'll be ok".
P4PKING_2008 03-27-2008, 12:26 PM I decided against the bout tonight, but I am leaving in 15minutes to set off. Gonna go down and get weighed and **** and if I get lucky someone else my weight will do the same and I could have a fight. Wish me luck haha.
mickeyb 03-27-2008, 12:31 PM They still might let you fight.
Eeh... i'm in the same boat. I'm scheduled to fight next friday at 78kg. But i'm 79.5kg. Gonna have to get with some roadwork and get on a diet.

Good luck with that. How about an upload of this fight you said you were gonna do?
mickeyb 03-27-2008, 12:39 PM haven't even seen the dvd yet myself pal. I think my trainer mentioned pickin it up 2nite.
If i can get a grip on techonology..then it's a go.

Fair enough mate. To upload it just download dvdshrink and open it with dvdshrink and burn it to your hard drive. Then up it to youtube or wherever. Real simple. Right i'm off cya.
makaveli_uk 03-27-2008, 02:10 PM personally, I wouldnt. OK You could get another win, but you HAVNT been doing longer rounds in the gym, HAVNT been running and to put on the 5 pounds it would be food fat, not muscle. Im not sure but with the extra weight wouldnt you tire quicker?
Theres always another chance to fight!
But you cant take a loss off your record.
makaveli_uk 03-27-2008, 02:11 PM P.S. What time are you boxing sessions?
aussieboxer2320 03-27-2008, 06:47 PM well did u fight
P4PKING_2008 03-27-2008, 06:50 PM P.S. What time are you boxing sessions?

P4PKING_2008 03-27-2008, 07:13 PM well did u fight
