I was wondering if sparring 1-3 times a week would lead me to having brain damage in the future. I am barley 17 and No way am I willing to give up my health for anything. I spar with 16oz gloves and a very well padded headgear. I would say I get tagged in the head about 4-8 times a round, but not with anything hard enough to shock me or rock me back. At the end of every month I take 1 full week off of sparring to let my head recover and rest.

Am I headed towards brain damage in the future? Please share your thoughts on this topic.

That whole brain damage shit seems to be over-exaggerated, although it happens, it's just not to the extent that everyone is lead to believe by the media or other people for that matter.

I spar 75% of the time I goto the gym for atleast three rounds, usually six or eight. I am a small guy at 132 and I am usually sparring with guys much bigger then me. I've been boxing 13 years, and I'm fine =)

Sparring sessions are not to go in and bang all out. You go in there to get work and practice.

I think the majority of brain damage cases come from pros who have had lengthy professional careers.

4-8 times every round ,..you know what,..it isnt good at all!
And that week off your were talking about is non -sense
as if your head will recover ....just dont get hit that much, and dont spar hard!A lot of boxers make that mistake and think its more real to spar hard well it isnt, its more real to spar fast!

So it sounds like the people you spar dont know how to box because any good sparring partner will catch you atleast and I mean ATLEST 4 times a round. Either your Floyd mayweather or just on his level to not get caught with jabs, rights, hooks, uppercuts and counter punches!

Brain damage is the only possible outcome of boxing. The only question is how much.

lol u wont get brain damage only seasoned pros who have a walk up style that leaves them open to lots of punches get brain damage. the week off at the end of every month probably isnt necessary, one or two sessions off every couple of months is ok though

What i mean is he gets hit 4-8 times in each round , and the question is, if that's a healthy thing ,..and i say ,..that ..in talks of brain damage is a bad thing...Being hit in the ****in mellon is not good for your head, thats what i mean.
You think, that i mean , that he sucks in terms of boxing 'cause he gets hit 4-8 times in a round, well i do too, thats not what i mean.
I'll take back what i said , just **** Gayweather!
