View Full Version : Hey Astro
GhosT^x0 06-11-2003, 02:58 PM About the arms, dude.......
16s would be awesome, I have not measured my arms before... and with guys like Jarrod around, I'm ****ing embarrassed to even try.
What kind of exercises / weight lifting would you recommend for solid bi / tri growth?
VulgarTheClown 06-11-2003, 03:00 PM man i got natural 15's
you puss
Allison 06-11-2003, 03:00 PM Natural=fat
Mr. Beelzebub 06-11-2003, 03:01 PM A fat **** bragging about his flabby arms = always funny
Mr.Satan 06-11-2003, 03:02 PM i think my arms are 8 inches around?
i am not sure.
They have been called wet spagetti
noodles by a lot fo people
VulgarTheClown 06-11-2003, 03:04 PM i got like no fat on my arms
i got pretty good definition too.
the only place i got fat is right below my belly button (the only major area) the rest is very little fat.
its strange
astroboy 06-11-2003, 03:51 PM i have 17s,
for bi workouts i normally start by stretching of course then get into it.
first set, straight bar standing curls normally ill shoot for 3/8 the way the wrist is twisted flat enhances the work on the bicep, where as a easy bar curl is simpler because supporting muscles are not under as much load until the lift.
when finish the 3/8 i normally kill them off but grabbing a lighter weight (normally half of what you just did) and rep out just once.
then ill move to either preacher curls or seated dumbbell curls.
with the preachers i use again the easy bar or the flat bar i dont use dumbbells for preachers. With preachers i go approximatly 80% of my max even if im doing a light workout i find this isolates them so well i can hard more my arms properly when done.
Seat dumbbells grab a seat grab about 75% of your max and shoot for 10 each set.... i forgot to mention i always shoot for 10s even if im going my 1 rep max why?? cause its mental you will probably get 2 instead of 1 .... but if you do it right and on your last set of reps i normally get the weight right and can push out 8s.
last but not least by any stretch, i will use the cable machine to curl out the last reps that i have left in my bis....
other exercises for bis you can intergrate in on different days to change it up and up and down the weight to shock muscles or rips them more.
As for Triceps you probably know Triceps are just over 60% of your arm size so this is where size will grow alot. Personally my Biceps have a hard time hurting or growing anymore... which is fine with me bacause i have lots of tricep growth left.
Triceps to start ill normally do chest and tris or shoulders and triceps on the same day, why? cause you you your triceps to work those other muscles.... once your finished with chest or shoulders i go and isolate the tricep with the following,
cable extensions i start with the solid bar first for 3/sets of 10
then cable extensions with the rope i rep out once an a slightly lighter weight.
ez bar = grab one lay on a bench with your hands fairly close together and elbows kept inward instead of outward... you will notice your elbows go outward as your triceps and stablizer muscles being to fail more.... bring the weight to your forehead and up again to arms extension... dont lock your elbows that rests the tri slightly.
then depending on how my triceps are feeling ill do either dips as many as i can do for 3 sets also helps chest....
or
ill do seated dips where you have your feet on one bench a weight accross your lap and dip between the benches i try to aim for 3 sets of 10 but by this time im ****ed...
again intergrate any other good tri exercises you might know to change it up..
also if you want it to grow you gotta rip the muscles, so remember heavier weight/change of exercise/ protien etc....etc...
but ya.... the most ive curled and jarrods witnessed was 145lbs flat bar in melbourne now i normally can grab a 100lb flat bar and do sets of 8 or 10 easily enough...
if you want size do tris .... but *****es love the bis 2
GhosT^x0 06-11-2003, 03:53 PM You just wrote a chapter in my bible, bro. This has been printed. Thank you for all the time you put into writing that. :ghost:

GhosT^x0 06-11-2003, 04:01 PM Got any good websites that diagram the exercises or give visual aides on the equipment / form to use?
I got 19 1/2 I just measured
VulgarTheClown 06-11-2003, 04:02 PM so whats a preacher curl?
Its a curl that you do with with a board an a 45 degrre angle in front of you to restrain cheating movement.
Allison 06-11-2003, 04:11 PM Look at this.

Big arms = Need big Tricepts
JM presses really build up your tri's too.
Also, Ghost, if you want to "look big" or what not, i would work on your upper back and your chest. When you have a big back, you look pretty big even though your arms may not be.If you have a big chest, it also makes you look bigger. I agree with what Astro.

seldomTap 06-11-2003, 06:34 PM Ghost...there is a school of thought regarding arm growth that there is little point doing isolated arm work till you have at least 15 inch or so arms.
I have never measured, but in comparison to some guys I know that have said they have 17's or 18's, I look either bigger or equal to. I have never focussed much on arms, perhaps 3 sets of bis and 5 sets of tri's a week. Most of the true, solid growth will come from heavy pressing movements like close grip bench for tri's, chins and other rowing exercises for bi's.
Whatever you do, don't become a "Bench and Bicep curl guy"...I ****en hate those ******s!

astroboy 06-11-2003, 09:02 PM seldomtap
go tap your missus in the ass, yes your simple form of working out works for overall strength but not overall growth, those movements ie: squats, deadlifts, military press, bench press
only get you so far before you need to focus.... just because he does a bi workout does not mean he cant throw a set of deads before or after...
LukeDothSucketh 06-11-2003, 09:03 PM I think he was referring to the guys that go to the gym every day, do 3 sets of 10 curls, then 3 sets of 10 bench press, then leave...

What I was saying was that people **** up by not gaining a solid base first before doing isolation exercises. Most isolation stuff, and I include curls and pushdowns in this, will give help with shape, but will gain minimal mass. No one got big arms (and by big I am talking 18+) by doing just arm work.
You didn't say before he should be doing deadlifts or anything alse at all, which read like you were giving him basically an arm programme, which a lot of people are dumb enough to follow, neglecting everything else (not that Dave s dumb, but you know what I mean).
You are right, major compound exercises will only get you so far before you need to isolate, but people need to realise that they are essential in gwetting to that point in the first place.
