THe TRiNiTY 02-28-2008, 03:56 PM Depends, hard to tell. Who knows what happens if Biggie is/was still around. For one, NO ONE knows for sure that Biggie would have continued to make GREAT music. Reason to believe, but it's not a certainty. Jay could have superceded him. Jay has a long catolog, so it's hard to imagine with THOSE hits in him, that he NEVER makes it without B.I. dying. Keep in mind that Jay is in the spot he's in for A LOT of reasons. He has a certain image about him that Biggie didn't. They had their own things, but I don't see Biggie filling the role that Jay has for himself. And vice versa. The best thing for Jay, that ever happened to him, was never getting signed and going independent. Which, wouldn't have happened if B.I.G. was dead, because people would have been looking for an NY cat if he had been dead at that time. In fact, Biggie being ALIVE may have more effect on Jay's career. Two Clips 02-28-2008, 04:03 PM The greatest thing to happen to Jay-Z was the death of Biggie Smalls. Fact or fiction? Fiction, the greatest thing to happen to Jay was Beyonce! Or Maybe Tupac getting killed, I think Pac really had it out for the dude and in that time whoever Pac had beef his fans had beef with also. ROSEWOOD 02-28-2008, 04:04 PM Fiction.....Jay was going to be big regardless...It would have been like the Jay / Nas factor...Some feel Nas is hot but Jay eats him alive...I feel that way about Biggie / Jay..... I hope I made sense..Please advise if I didn't.. THE REED™ 02-28-2008, 04:04 PM FICTION.. they were best friends? ROSEWOOD 02-28-2008, 04:07 PM Fiction, the greatest thing to happen to Jay was Beyonce! Or Maybe Tupac getting killed, I think Pac really had it out for the dude and in that time whoever Pac had beef his fans had beef with also. Pac had it out for the whole East...If he were living, Nas or Jay would exist..Biggie would have held his own..I hate to admit it but even Dre would be a goner.. Two Clips 02-28-2008, 04:21 PM Pac had it out for the whole East...If he were living, Nas or Jay would exist..Biggie would have held his own..I hate to admit it but even Dre would be a goner.. No doubt...I was just being sarcastic. On the Lyrical tip Dre never wrote any of his **** anyway. If it wasn't Cube it was Pac and now Em. But I still believe he would be holdin' it down with the beats. Knicksman20 02-28-2008, 04:26 PM The greatest thing to happen to Jay-Z was the death of Biggie Smalls. Fact or fiction? Fiction. Not only were they close friends but BIG & Jay were forming The Commission before he was killed. They were gonna corner the industry. BIG already had his clothing line out before Jay did called Brooklyn Mint. Those two would've run the game for a long time. flipside 02-28-2008, 08:40 PM with regard to skills big was light years ahead of jay i am of the opinion that jay would be second fiddle to big if he was alive. pac was beefin with him before he died too so that might have been good for jay too i mean pac's death ROSEWOOD 02-29-2008, 08:14 AM No doubt...I was just being sarcastic. On the Lyrical tip Dre never wrote any of his **** anyway. If it wasn't Cube it was Pac and now Em. But I still believe he would be holdin' it down with the beats. Pac and Suga made that boy put his **** up...Dre was scared as hell..Pac dead so my major threat is gone..lol Kobe Bryant 02-29-2008, 08:58 AM Faction. Big's death opened the lane for Hov. He was a huge star and wouldn't have gotten bigger with Big present. Big ran the radio before he died along with the rest of Bad Boy. res 02-29-2008, 03:29 PM The greatest thing to happen to Jay-Z was the death of Biggie Smalls. Fact or fiction? Absolute FACT. It's called The "Playa niche". Before his death Biggie occupied the Player Niche. Jay came on the scene with his best album of all time (Reasonable Doubt) and it was largely ignored by comparison, it couldn't compete with Biggie. Yeah Jay would have been in the Commission but this means he would have been one of Biggie's little henchmen. Since historically Biggie and Jay would come to occupy the same Niche in Hip Hop (The one which Big Daddy Kane introduced) there was only room for one. With out Biggie the lyrically dumbed down version of Jay that becomes a huge international star never sees the light of day. Biggie would have kept rappers straight lyrically and the street would have been behind him. Without a figure like him, mainstream markets and tastes took over Hip Hop and the pop version of Jay Z rose to power. If biggie had stayed around Jay may not have been anywhere near as big as he is now but I believe he would have been a far superior artist. Smokin' 02-29-2008, 05:19 PM The greatest thing to happen to Jay-Z was the death of Biggie Smalls. Fact or fiction? Fact. However, Big was slowly declining in terms of his music anyways. He was slowly going the pop route and with Puff's push his next album probably would of been a bunch of club bangers and dance tracks. Plus, Pac hated Jay's guts and his classic debut album was largely ignored due to Big's presence. But you all gotta remember...there's just some people who would be successful regardless...and Jay is one of those people. But he definitely wouldn't of been as big as he was. |
