Rejection - it's such an ugly word. How do you cope? How do you get over the feelings of anguish, embarrassment and anger? Well, for one, don't take it personally. What? How can you not take it personally when you're the one who was so "personally" rejected? Let's go to my favorite source of guidance - the word of God.

In 1 Samuel 8:7, the Lord told Samuel to hearken unto the voice of the people when they told Samuel that they wanted a king to rule over them. The Lord told Samuel that he was not being rejected, but it was the Lord whom the people were rejecting. They no longer wanted the Lord to rule over them, but they wanted to have a king like the heathen nations.

Another example of rejection is illustrated by David. In Psalm 55:12-14, David expresses his feelings on the matter. For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it; neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him; But it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance. We took sweet counsel together, and walked unto the house of God in company.

Rejection hurts -- no doubt about it! It especially hurts when it comes through someone very close to you. When rejection comes (and I say when it comes, not if it comes, because we all have and will face some form of rejection in our lives) the key to successfully overcoming it is not to let it make you bitter. That's not easy to do (I know it isn't) but it can be done. How? Well, let's go back to the word of God.
