View Full Version : Ben Cousins pulls out of circus boxing match
tills9191 02-22-2008, 07:44 AM BEN COUSINS has pulled out of the much-anticipated Anthony Mundine exhibition boxing match in Sydney - just hours after it was reported he would face a blood test.
Management company Flying Start issued a statement this afternoon giving no reason why Cousins withdrew as the undercard of Mundine's WBA middleweight defence at the Sydney Entertainment Centre next Wednesday night.
Flying Start talent manager Carlie Merenda said in the statement: "Ben Cousins and his management company, Flying Start, met yesterday and confirmed the decision made last week that Cousins will not be taking part in an exhibition bout prior to Anthony Mundine's WBA middleweight defence in Sydney next week.
"No further comment will be made."
Cousins was set to fight on the undercard of Anthony Mundine's WBA middleweight defence in Sydney next week.
But if he were to fight, Cousins - sacked by the West Coast Eagles last year amid mounting drug scandals - must comply with NSW Boxing Authority rules.
That includes a pre-fight medical clearance and blood test. Although taken to guard against the risk of HIV infection, the test also reveals the presence of any drugs.
Cousins had until 24 hours before the fight on Wednesday to register.
This month, Cousins made his first public statement alongside Team Mundine, which announced Cousins would fight.
On top of promoting an anti-drugs theme for the event, the 29-year-old's debut was seen as a drawcard for pay-per-view subscriptions in Western Australia.
Salty 02-22-2008, 08:58 AM Yeah he still hasn't kicked the habit, which is a shame. He really needs to sort his life out before helping that ****head mundine.
Dick-Sucker 02-22-2008, 04:33 PM Mundine would make about $1 million off Ben cousins from PPV's in WA alone. What a tosser. Riding a guy for money, who has a serious drug problem.
And its not him. Its his sleezy management, run by Khoder Nasser who comes up with this ****.
Another joke in a stalling career.
Salty 02-22-2008, 09:20 PM Yeah i hope he gets KTFO and beaten badly in his next bout, too bad that will never happen as he only fights people who don't have his exp or skill. Probably the biggest coward i have seen in any sport.

Actually nearly all of the guys he has fought have been much more experienced than he has. Though I agree they don't have his skill or athleticism.
Ben Cousins is a joke. Footballers get too much these days and it turns them into ****y, arrogant ****s who think they can get anything. I don't even believe he had a drug habit. He probably had a large recreational habit...meaning he got stick into pretty heavily on the weekend and binged hard in any breaks he had but if he had an actual habit he would not have been playing football. After working with and being around people with real habits I can tell you that what he went through ain't ****! The pity he gets when most people despise your typical street junkie as the scum of the earth makes me sick! They have harder lives than most people could dream of having and yet this guy who has everything anyone could dream of gets stuck into some ice and digs it a bit too much suddenly gets the old "Oh, he has problems that we don't understand and he needs help, not criticism." treatment is pathetic!
I know people will probably hate me for saying that, but it's pretty sad.
Greatwhitehope 02-23-2008, 10:42 PM Whats the actual date of the Mundine fight?
Biggus Dickus 02-24-2008, 04:23 PM ^^^
It's this Wednesday, the 27th, for a low low $49.95 on Main Event!!! Place your order now (not)
Brunswick Assassin 02-24-2008, 04:56 PM Looks like Ben's more interested where the after party's at rather than fighting. The guy's full of so much of that crap he'll still be walking around with a buzz for the next year! Mundine's a pr*** using Ben's notoriety as a marketing tool to sell PPV's in WA. Sales must be really starving for this bout.
mgkirkpatrick 02-24-2008, 08:27 PM lol just makes him look like a dick. at least make up a reason.. no further comment = he's been high as a mother****er
Dick-Sucker 02-25-2008, 12:16 AM Im not to sure if this is true. Apparently only 500 PPV's have been bought for Mundines fight on wednesday in Australia.
I got told by a guy at my gym, who goes to all his fights and knows people in his team.

I hope that's true and they loose a **** load of money.
Then maybe his management team will stop pissing down our backs and telling us it's raining. Hell they might even arrange a fight with a fighter who could possibly win.

Yeh well the guy at my gym usually brags about Mundine so i don't think he would lie negatively about him.
Either way. Poor PPV sales are going to have to force him to do something different.
As unrealistic as it sounds. The Mundine camp are in heavy negotiations with Jermain Taylor.
mgkirkpatrick 02-25-2008, 06:35 AM i read today on another forum from someone in the know that there was already contracts drawn up for bouts with both soliman and green.. possibly already signed.

The Soliman rematch is total B****.
The Green match will definetely happen. But it looks like Danny wants this to be at the end of the year. Because if he and Mundine notch some solid wins before this, with 2 titles (one fake), it would be massive.
I wouldn't be suprised if Danny fought Briggs and Mundine fought Taylor before the rematch. Both getting wins. Well thats unrealistic, but would be something to see going into a rematch.
mgkirkpatrick 02-25-2008, 08:43 PM obviously id prefer this but a guy on another forum who doesnt bull**** and really could know.. reckons a little birdy told him soliman was next

Oh dear :nonono:
I really, really hope thats not true. That would be such a huge waste of our time and his talent. People will actually forget him if he does that again. He KO'd him for god sakes! Soliman has never been whipped so bad. Why would he bother again and more importantly why would Mundine bother as he could make twice the money elsewhere!? Get more credit for it as well. I'm getting more and more bored with this guy and his antics and if this is true, well it will be the end for me.
boxing_great 02-25-2008, 10:49 PM whose the moderator here?
Brunswick Assassin 02-25-2008, 11:33 PM Only 500 PPVs sold???LOL Choc's dad, mum, kids and everybody at Redfern Gym would have bought it. No one else!
Don't tell me he's fighting Soliman again? Soliman git his ass whupped bad so what's the point? Green v Choc will have the next fight and a 3rd, no doubts!
He also wants to fight Juarne Dowling again too!

Mate i don't bull****. What i said about Mundine/Froch may well still be true. But as for now his team are in negotiations with Taylors camp.
I know people who train and are in close connection with Mundines camp.
Also what i said on Briggs vs Clinton Woods, that was really in the mix at one stage. But the guy who told me exaggerated, and has lost some credibility.
Soliman rematch simply isn't happening.
There are 4 options available:
Taylor in US (Taylor wants it)
Winky in US( unlikely but Winky may try to win his belt, so he can secure a big name. something he hasn't been able to do.
Froch/Inkin winner (possible i would say 3rd most likely to happen.
Green Rematch Next (2nd most likely to happen behind Taylor).
Mundine is in hot demand at the moment. Simply because he has been fighting bums and has a fake title, and the likes of Kessler, Winky, Taylor think he is vunerable because he hasn't fought decent opponents. And thats true, he is vunerable the next time he steps up opposition.

I will definetely take it. But in a couple of days i will confirm. I just want to see what Danny Green says after the Mundine fight. Because he will likely get called out.
If he rejects it. I will take the bet. Because he has no other options. Cheers.
mgkirkpatrick 02-26-2008, 12:52 AM aight too easy. drop a line in the bets thread either way. if you accept ill have to confirm as well though.. we'll see what comes out of tomorrow nights fight by the looks
Salty 02-26-2008, 06:14 AM didn't mundine just back out of the hamdan fight? or am i just hearing things at work. ****ing 37 degree heat.

LOL, its the 37 degree heat then mate.
Salty 02-26-2008, 06:38 AM yeah need to get a personal aircon i think haha
Brunswick Assassin 02-26-2008, 08:55 PM bwahahahahahah good call, Juarne Dowling. Haven't heard that name for a while. **** me wasn't he a punching bag??
Dowling is just another scallywag street kid. He's done with Boxing. How Mundine had the audacity to make his fight agianst Scallywag Dowling PPV astounds me! Looks like Roy Jones is giving Mundine advice on how to persuade Main Event to give him BS fights and charge hard working people $50 (rrp instead should be $4.95 inc. GST) to watch him beat up on cabbies, forkies, nurses, warehouse workers etc. And the rest of the undercard which are a joke! This is an embarrassment to Australian Boxing. Expect more of the same BS tonight.
mgkirkpatrick 02-27-2008, 03:16 AM im tingling with excitement in anticipation...
