View Full Version : Confusion with kimbo
tjmoney 02-19-2008, 07:19 PM I think most people are missing the point when it comes to Kimbo Slice. Everyone is buying into the fact that this guy wants to be a world champion someday. Wrong!!! Kimbo, Elite XC, Bas Rutten, they all know the deal. Kimbo is there to make himself rich and to draw crowds for Elite XC. Kimbo is never going to challenge for a title or anything. The guy is there to be MMA's version of Butterbean. His fights will never be longer than one round and he will never fight contenders. He is going to beat up on nobodys and over the hill fighters with name value. All the while growing Elite XC's fanbase and bringing attention to their real fighters. Now dont get me wrong, i love it, and if UFC was smarter they would have done the same thing with Brock, at least for his first few fights anyway. But they didnt, and now Elite XC will begin to gain some ground why? not because they have better fighters but because they have the better sideshow.
reedickyaluss 02-19-2008, 07:21 PM basically your wrong... i love how you think you know this dudes intention in only his second fight in the sport...
I don't think you train with Bas and Shawn Tompkins just to be a sideshow attraction.
tjmoney 02-19-2008, 07:35 PM Then why not start him off like the UFC did with brock? let him fight a real fighter instead of some big bald guy and Tank Abbott. They havent even given him a chance to prove himself yet? why is that then? Its not like they have all the time in the world. The guy has a few years left thats it, maybe hes got 12 fights total before he's over the hill and thats only because he's starting so late, normally fighters his age are fighting once a year for big bucks, and he's just breaking in? come on, we all know how this game is played, They had a bunch of guys noone except die hard mma fans cared about, the company was going nowhere until Kimbo showed up. Now they have him and with him comes new fans, fans that they would not have been able to gain otherwise. So with their Big Attraction they can possibly garner some interest for their other fighters and thus creating a wider fan base. I mean its really not hard to see. And if you still think im an idiot just think about where Elite XC and Kimbo woud be right now if He hadnt of come aboard. Kimbo would be back on the streets fighting in backyards for a few hundred bucks a fight and Elite XC well their future as a whole would be looking a lot dimmer.
RAESAAD 02-19-2008, 07:42 PM He is 34.....He has a short window of doing anything big. I don't see it happening though. He's making far more than he did on the street so I'm sure he's happy either way. I do know one thing....He will take every chance they gice him. He will fight whoever offers it. If he gets enough of a following like he is expected than somebody with a big name will call him out somewhere to make it a high dollar fight. Will he lose to a good mixed martial artist? Yes.....
Blair_Wells#32 02-19-2008, 07:49 PM On Monday night, Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello made a special appearance on MMAWeekly Radio to issue a challenge to rising EliteXC star Kimbo Slice for a fight that already has mixed martial arts fans chattering about on the Internet.
“People want to see it. I think everybody wants to see it. Me and Kimbo should lace up the gloves,” said Buentello. “Everybody wants to see it and I think it’s time. He’s fighting all the guys I’ve already knocked out and I’ve already exposed. He needs to get off that buffet line I put out there and come over to my Paul Buentello taco shop and see if we can get to work.”
There were rumors of a fight between the two heavyweights after Buentello commented on a Kimbo street fight just a year ago and fans began to clamor and wonder if they would ever meet.
“Everybody asks me ‘when are you going to fight Kimbo? You should fight that Kimbo guy,’” said the American Kickboxing Academy fighter. “Just give him much respect, he’s been training and accomplished a lot in a year or so. He’s really putting his hands together, he’s really putting his game plan together.”
Buentello says he respects Kimbo’s growing MMA game and guarantees a slugfest would ensue.
“I give him much respect. He stepped up. He went from street fighting to MMA and everybody thought he couldn’t produce, but he’s doing it,” stated Buentello.
“If I was a fan, I would definitely, I would want to see this fight. I would pay money to watch Paul Buentello fight Kimbo in a heartbeat.”
He confirmed on the show that he would be competing on the upcoming March 29 Strikeforce card, although no opponent has been named yet.
After that fight, Buentello believes he should be the next match-up for the YouTube sensation known as Kimbo Slice.
“I’m just throwing the offer out there,” he said. “I know he’d take the offer in a heartbeat, but he does have management.”
For now Buentello will head back into training and prepare for his nest fight on
Atnan 02-19-2008, 10:10 PM buentello would knock kimbo out-
Atnan 02-19-2008, 10:17 PM i dont see why real mma fans dislike with what kimbo`s doing...any real mma fans know hes no where near a top fighter- the best he can be is a heavy weight houston alexander!
1bad65 02-19-2008, 10:34 PM I agree with tjmoney on Kimbo. I do think he knows he is getting into MMA late so he is just gonna make as much money in it as he can. And I'm not downplaying him, he does train hard I'm sure. He is just being 'brought up' way too slow for someone his age if they really do plan on him contending for a title.
I also think Paul Buentello would be a huge step up for Kimbo. He's actually stopped into my gym a few times and worked out. Not only is he a good fighter, he is a real good guy too.

all fighters should start off with small fights, if ya even fought u wouldnt want a elite top 10 fighter would you? that would be stupid. The UFC plan for Brock was to build him up fast, thats my guess cause the guy is a beast. In my eyes Lesnar is still a force to be reckoned with. Kimbo will fight talent in his 4th or 5th.
AndersonSilva 02-20-2008, 12:06 AM to the guy who started this thread you build your self up retarded fuk. would you go and fight a top level guy (former champ) you numb nuts. get a grip n get of the tip of brocks ****. Bas wants to help build up Kimbo not throw him to the fukin lions like the UFC did with Brock. but thats kinda diff i guess. WWE guy put him against a world class submission guy. who the fuk do you think is gunna win.
think before u post Putana. My Italian buddies know what im talking about lol
Count Patron 02-20-2008, 01:02 AM I am pretty sure he is already pretty rich considering he is involved with one of the biggest adult film organizations in Miami.
This isn't about the money, it's about him thinking he is a bad ass.
AndersonSilva 02-20-2008, 01:24 AM stop hating^

I have 0 respect for him. I don't care if he beat Mir, Brock, anyone... I will NEVER respect him. He's a piece of **** person and not someone I would ever look up to.
tjmoney 02-20-2008, 06:33 PM Lillb, dude, you missed my entire point. You have no reading comprehension skills what so ever. You read my post thought I was hatin on him so you decided to attack me without reading the whole thing. I understand the concept of bringing up a fighter. And doing it slowly would be fine if he was 24 but he isnt, he's 34. And with both sides knowing that, I am just saying that it is very likely that neither side has any real intention of bringing him along to become a complete fighter and someday a championship contender because by the time hes ready he will be almost 40 years old!!! So its obvious the best thing for both the company and Kimbo is for him to fight these "special attraction" fights and bring in new viewers with the main objective being making fast money and building a fanbase for their real contenders and champions. And if you dont agree with that then I dont know what you really expect from this guy but you will probably be disappointed
