This guys is so biased its hilarious. Check out 3:04 when he says "hitting the ropes to distract Louis". He didn't hit the ropes to distract Louis. He missed Louis' face and hit the ropes instead, :lol1:! Funny stuff. Marciano fans always come up with some kind of gimmick to make him into something he's not. Now he a defensive wizard!:haha:

Yeah that **** was funny, like louis would be stuck like a deer in headlights looking at the ropes shake :puppy_dog Nice video though, but it still doesnt change the fact that he was easily hittable. I have a feeling the maker of the video also handles that marciano site which makes him out to be god.

He does have underrated defense, especially for being "clumsy" naturally. Many of his opponents thought he wasn't easy to hit, even Ali said that after sparring with an old Rocky.

It was mostly his stance and angle of how he would place his chin. I think why he was hit a lot was because sometimes he was wreckless and could afford it because of his great chin. And he used his back a lot when doing this, and it's possible that this ultimately messed up his back forcing him to retire. Good video.

** I've heard he retired because of back problems, but just about everyone who lived ends up with back problems apparently. Tyson and Vitali most recently.

I know he was a catcher at the lowest level of the minor leagues which is very stressful on a back. Then the army, so plenty of places to mess up a back for a young guy.

The video is superb at doing the job of highlighting the strange balletic moves of Rock in slowmotion withsymphonic selections not associated with the brutal nature of his fights. I believe I saw this on a Monte Cox site a few years back.

Anyway, because Rocky was always looking to be inside because of short reach, his feints, ducks, and slips become part of the angle he delivers his offense from, making him something of a seamless fighter. Cluminess in boxing is as much an asset as natural coordination if you can figure out how to use it. Oscar Bonavena was as clumsy as they come with non standard moves and made himself hell for Frazier and Ali.

Rock is the great fight for Holmes IMO. What a war between two guys who started late in boxing and had such contrasting styles. I'd pick Rocky by late KO, but it's possible Larry could get a cuts stoppage.

He didnt have the greatest defence and everything shown in the video about hes slipping and defense is stuff you should know in your first couple of lessons in boxing, but hey he was undefeated so worked for him.

I agree his defense i often underated but it's not as good as the vid tries to make it out to be. "hitting the ropes to distract Louis" - utter bull ****.

Good vid. Funny the hatred some of these guys have for Marciano, just because he retired undefeated. If he fought today, he'd be fighting light heavyweight and there is no doubt he would be holding at least one of the world belts.

You could make Gatti look like a defensive genious if you took some clips and slowed them down.

C'mon, that's going a little too far.

Anyway, I don't think anyone is arguing that Marciano was a defensive genius, just that he wasn't extremely easy to hit, like most people think.

I always saw Marciano as a guy that just had a "hard to hit quirk" (compared to most sluggers) but wasn't exactly a defensive master.

Ali? At his best he was one of the toughest fighters ever to hit. Of coarse he was hittable after that 3 year absence, and his legs never were the same. As far as the zero losses, Marciano is way over rated because of it. The defense that was pointed out in this video is a natural type of defense that should be expected. You can make anyone look good by picking out all the times they moved their head in time. I still say Tyson would have knocked that ass out in the first round!!!!!:boxing:
