is that you on the bag or just random dude with a decent amateur record from your gym, I am confused. If it is you, you may want to consider putting a tennis ball under your chin, you are very vuneralble to upper cuts IMO::::

good power

glad I could help, I also use a racketball as well...You will be shocked after a month or so of doing it how much tighter your chin stays and also I think left hooks come off crisper.

I see you are learning a thing or two. Putting a tennis ball under the chin is an old time training trick to get these kids to improve their posture and tighten up their style. A hard lefthook is not an easy punch to throw but once you have steady balance and good form, you can get a hell of a lot of power into it.

Keep the chin in and don't move your head forward when you throw.

That's my friend, not me. He has 16W-3L, and he's very good, his chin is ok, because his arms are long 207cm, and one of things he is doing best is avoiding punches, so he is not getting punched much. 3 loses were long time ago when ne was a rookie, after first 4 fights (1-3) he was practicing like a maniac and now has 15W in a row!!! I said earlier that his score is 15-3, now is 16-3 he has won another fight last week...unfortunately i didn't record that... sry i will try to record next one... he won this one in 3rd round by KO, it was easy he had about 15cm height and almost 30 cm arms advantage so his opponent couldn't even touch him...

i don't watch a lot of vids posted here, but yours wasn't bad comparitively.

interesting that some people bring up the tennis ball trick.

when your training on a heavybag, you really don't need too much realism. that you get from sparring. me, i keep my head mostly upright with my chin slightly tucked. and with your head too far forward as you have it, it becomes an easy target for even a beginning martial artists. but, you are boxing of course and have those giant gloves to protect you.

but, the real focus on hitting a heavybag, in any style of combat, should be focusing on getting the power out. relax and use more power with less force.

potatoes - how long have you been boxing?

Although what you're saying is true to an extent, it is still imperative to keep that 'realism' in every part of your training. The more you keep everything like you're actually fighting, when you actually get in the ring those habits you have been training for will be so ingrained they will be second nature and instead of having to worry about keeping your chin down, you do it automatically!

Training the heavybag is about power, but, it is also about technique and habit. If you get into the habit of punching the heavybag and not worrying about your technque or keeping your chin tucked but just training for power, when you get into the ring and throw a power punch, the habit you developed at the heavybag will come out and you might stick your chin out a bit and 'BOOM', it's all over. Bad advice to say don't worry about realism when training heavybag and not to worry about your chin or any other aspects too much.

Everyone should always keep realistic training habits and ingrain them so they become second nature in every aspect of training. If you have a problem with your chin sticking out, you should practice keeping it in, in every aspect, whether it be heavybag, shadowboxing or sparring. The tennis ball idea is brilliant for those who do have the chin problem.

it is good to understand that when i spar of fight, the target is really any pat of the body. we, however, have boxing sparring as my teach has been trained in boxing.

boxing with the chin tucked so much and the head so far forward is a particular style of boxing. i understand that and wish the best of luck. i simply present ideas based on my understanding, esperience, as well as my meetings and observations with extremely high level fighters.

Queensdawg - thnx man. i do consciously limit how much i post, and defintely what i post. part of it being that people should really have face to face instruction on many/most things. that is how it is done, and has always been done. skills pass from one person to another.

i completely understand where you are coming from.

that said, there are many, many different ways to train specific skills. not only that, different styles of boxing.

also, you failed to properly parallel what i was saying. my point being that training on a bag doesn't always have to be the same game over and over. sometimes you may want to practice exactly like you would box. sometimes, you might want to work on a particular part of your movement - therefore you have to isolate it from all other elements.

it depends on what his gaols were on the bag. whithout that being known, nobody should be able to give a proper assesment.

and this problem of people not being open to other ideas is one reason i don't post much here. people i know wouldn't question me. they know who i am taught by, and what i can do firsthand. but here, where i am just a name and not able to show you what i can do, doubt will always be a problem. and, i am fine with that. i just try to help others expand on their practice - not change it.
