View Full Version : Mayweather questions
chrismart83 02-05-2008, 07:15 AM As iv said before on this site, im pretty new to being a boxing fan. So over the last few years iv only seen 2 full Mayweather fights, (Hatton / De La Hoya). So i was wondering if someone could tell me which you would say was Mayweathers toughest fight out of his 39 fights. Who gave him his closest fight.
Also , i was just looking at his boxing record, and was wondering if some one could give me any info on his fights against the following, How the fight panned out ect:
Zab Judah
Arturo Gatti
Jose Luis Castillo 1 and 2
Diego Corrales
Thanks alot.

3 ODLH
4 Zab Judah
5 Carlos Hernandez
mike ruler 02-05-2008, 09:33 AM Definitely Jose Luis Castillo, other than that he really hasn't been tested...so there's just no way to argue, he's the best welterweight out there right now...p4p the best...
chrismart83 02-05-2008, 10:13 AM Thanks fellas.
Is the 1st Castillo fight a good fight, would it be worth downloading.
Cheers.
Tyson Jones 02-05-2008, 10:33 AM nah, its a quite boring fight, mayweather vs corrales is a great display by floyd knocking him down 5 times, mayweather vs chavez and hernandez are all out wars and are very exciting. One was runner up for FOTY. Floyd vs Zab is also highly entertaining. Floyd vs gatti is one of the most brutal beatings of all time.

Cheers.
cuauhtemoc1496 02-05-2008, 11:18 AM Definitly Castillo #1
Chavez gave him a very tough fight as well but I would have to say TECHNICALLY DLH made him work the hardest.

Its quite entering especially the 11th round where Mayweather stood toe to toe, i think Mayweather easily won the first 4 rounds then Castillo really took over in the middle rounds. By focusing his attack mostly to the body, very close fight i would like to hear your opinion on it when you get time to watch it.

Just finished watching the fight, i fought it was a pretty decent fight.
I didnt start scoring the fight at the start as i knew the result, but after looking back ,i think Castillo could have stolen that fight a couple of points. Certainly a close one.
The fight livened up around round 6 when Castillo turned it into a bit of a brawl.
Think il give the Mayweather -Corrales fight a try next.
DWiens421 02-05-2008, 07:24 PM It's really hard where to place the Zab Judah fight...
Honestly, Zab Judah was kicking Floyd's ass after 4, and then he went away... completely. He gave up, but it is an interesting fight to watch. I have it uploaded in the video section... search for Mayweather Judah, and make it show topics... mine is from an HD source and looks really good, so give it a look!
Anyway,
My order:
1. Jose Luis Castillo I (This will be consensus... a lot of people think Castillo definately deserved the victory)
2. Oscar De La Hoya
3. Jose Luis Castillo II
4. Zab Judah
5. Jesus Chavez (El Matador, he fought some scrub early in his career with the same name)
6. DeMarcus Corley
7. Victoriano Sosa
8. Emanuel Burton
9. Reggie Sanders (Early in his career, didn't look very good against a guy who ended up with a losing record)
10. Ricky Hatton
...
...
...
39. Arturo Gatti

Are you kidding? That fight was pretty much domination by Floyd. I had it 118-110 (117-111 I could see too. 116-112 is a stretch).
I'd switch the Burton fight to 3. It was probably the most physical fight Floyd was in.

I thought the 2nd fight was clear cut win for Mayweather but it was still not an easy fight for Mayweather, he wasn't ever troubled though and fought cautiously to win a boring UD.
warp1432 02-05-2008, 08:33 PM I didn't find it that boring as people made it out to be. Mayweather showed that he could actually deal with Castillo and still did some combinations which made it good.
Then again I really don't find fights boring as long as they are throwing punches.

Wow, I certainly didn't see the rematch being an easy dominant win for Mayweather at all. I think Castillo did a hell of a lot better than Chavez to be honest.
Burton was physical, but Floyd beat him up, plain and simple.
warp1432 02-05-2008, 10:29 PM Maybe I should watch it again, but the first two times I've both had it pretty dominant. I don't think he was roughed up at all and even when he did lose rounds I thought he was still in control the whole time.
What was your scorecard? 115-113? That's usually the general conception, but I cannot just not see it that way. What rounds did you score for Castillo so I know what to look for? Not critizing your juding, just wondering about mine.

If i remember right i had Mayweather winning by 3 rounds i think he won very clear cut. But i don't think it was as easy as your suggesting, but maybe you scored the fight different to me, because of how Mayweather set the pace his ring generalship etc.
KILLA RIGHT 02-09-2008, 02:22 AM Castillo no doubt and Chavez aswell i think a big chunck of the Chavez fight is on youtube
AK-47 02-11-2008, 04:12 PM castillo is a definite
Watch zabs just for a laugh...It was damn funny there was a brawl aswell
You shoulda seen roger mayweather go lmao
The Monk 02-11-2008, 07:58 PM I always enjoy watching the Chavez fight. Chavez was a bull that night but the way Floyd dominated with a masterful display of back foot boxing was very impressive. The way he fights on the ropes is something I wish I was able to do, I bet alot of boxers wish they had ability like that too. Very entertaining fight.
