in case some peeps never saw my "reggae is a musical curse" thread started on sherdog last summer, here you go:

**** REGGAE!!!
it's nothing but meaningless babbling about whogivesa****. reggae music is good. but those lame **** "singers" need to seriously shut the **** up.
reggae chicks are even worse. you all remember that "let me ride" jam from dr. dre on The Chronic?? remember that lame slut at the beginning of the song?
"EEEEEEE....wantin ta be a gangsta. blah blah blew blew blee gabba wabbba wee wah woo chumba wumba TELL EM WHAT DE **** IS GOIN ON!!"
**** that *****!! **** reggae vocals!!!

how can someone feel irie and peaceful when some dude is talkin like a ****ing retard with a deep voice??

arggggggg!!!!! my 2 loans didn't fund today because underwriting will never learn how to pull their heads out of their asses so i'm talking my anger out on my outright disgust for reggae.

hopefully people will get offended and tell me how i'm an uninformed close-minded ******* because i haven't heard the funkadocious rastafarian tunes and artists that have inspired them to ponder joining the peace corp while smoking 10 pounds of dirt weed all day

Sometimes a bands success comes from Defying the Agent.

Aaron Bizarre

no. because, as already mentioned, the songs sucked along with the quality. most of them were actually just ****ing ****ty demos and uncomprehendable live crap of the jams that are already on 40 oz, robbin, and the self titled.
either that or it's just yet ANOTHER dj that swings on their nuts remixing **** again.

TOOL fired there original agent for trying to make them record all 3 minute songs. Said they would be making a mistake if they didnt.

I dont think it hurt there career. People like long songs if done well. Ie; pink floyd, Opeth, Iron Maiden.

It did take Bradley dying to launch thier songs to what it was but most really good bands never get picked up by labels because of thier image. this is a known fact and 3 fat guys from Long Beach who are drunk all the time was not going to ketch a break in 90-94.

The Misfits inspired **** loads of bands and never got a major record label despite the influence they had on Cradle of Filth,Metallica,AFI everyband on the chaotic world compilation etc. btu they cant sell a bunch of corpse painted barbarians who sing about horror songs to the public main stream.

happened to alot of great bands.

brad's death didn't have much of an impact. they were doing just fine beforehand. "date rape" was being played on the radios all the time years before he died.
when they release the self titled, THAT'S what got them big. unfortunately it came out right after brad died. but songs like doin time, what i got, wrong way, pawn shop, and santoria are what truely launched them into the public eye as far as i'm concerned.

They were played in Cali but I never heard of Sublime until Bradley OD'd. Wasnt played east coast. Nirvana also wasnt as big until Kurt was killed.

Purity
05-22-2003, 03:38 PM
they were played in cali because it was there local scene. but if you're getting major local airplay off of your 1st album then obviously you're doing something right.
you would have heard of them regardless of his death. if he had died after the self titled album then you would have heard of him WELL before he died.

nirvana wasn't big till kurt died???????
cmon now aaron. "smells like teen spirit" was the biggest hit of it's time. Nevermind had already pioneered the entire music industry out of glam rock and into grunge well before even In Utero was released, which was released well before he died!!
his death just made the nirvana legend a martyred legend. that's it.

Nirvana was big but they were ****ing HUGE after he died. Music Martyrdom has made many a great musician even bigger. Janis,Hendrix,Morrison,Cobain,Nowell, Barret all became rock legends all boosted by tradgedy.

Sublime (at least I feel) was no differant.

of course they wouldn't have been AS big. neither would have sublime.
i'm pretty sure every beatle album jumped in sales after lennon was shot. doesn't mean that the beatles weren't still ****ing huge while john was alive.

Purity

right but the original arguement was that you were saying that it took the actual death to LAUNCH them, not turn them into legends.

Aaron Bizarre
05-22-2003, 03:49 PM
The Beatles were on another level but who would have known if Hendrix or Joplin would have been known.

The Beatles and Elvis made loads of CD'd before someone died they were already huge, correct. but Sublime,Nirvana,Hendrix only put out so many CD's that lasted a LONG time. imagine having a handful of albums go years and years, just a handful. its the martyrdom stigmatism attached that pushed the artists so far after they stopped producing.

i honestly think that when hendrix played the most powerful guitar solo in history during the most famous concert in history, THAT is what made him known. as mentioned, the death's made them legends, but did not launch their careers.
