View Full Version : Top 5 Fights: Year By Year
MissDeeCole 02-02-2008, 01:58 AM My son is a young boxing fan and I was interested in showing him some boxing fights. I figured we'd go year by year, starting from 1990 so and onward. As I was putting together the DVD's, it got me wondering, what exactly were the top 5 significant fights (action wise and name/hype wise) of each of the past 15 years. Im a fan but some of you on here are practically historians so I figured id bring my question here. Anyone?

DWiens421 02-02-2008, 01:46 PM Just curious thread stealer, but why did you use every FOTY except for 1999 Paulie Ayala vs. Johnny Tapia? That was a pretty good fight if I remember correctly.

I haven't seen it.
I think I do have it somewhere in the crates, but I haven't seen it.

It's an FOTY, and it's better than Holyfield-Tyson I and Gatti-Ward III...
It should definately be on the list. :)
DWiens421 02-03-2008, 04:40 AM Hey Thread Stealer, please complete the list from 03-07...
I am still a n00b with boxing, and I actually have been trying to figure out what fights were either good or historical from 1990 and above, so you have helped me out tremendously with it so far, but it would be nice to have some of the new biggest fights too, whether they be action or big matchups.
Always more to learn!
MissDeeCole 02-04-2008, 04:38 AM you guys are great.
DWiens421 02-04-2008, 04:45 AM you guys are great.
Thank you for making this thread!
I am now downloading all the non-heavyweight fights I hadn't seen from threadstealer's list...
By the way... for sure, grab all the FOTYs you can. They are all money.
If you have seen Holyfield-Tyson I or Gatti-Ward III, you know how good the list is, because those are the two worst fights from the FOTY list post-1990.

Not all the years are complete with a top 5.
My favorite fight in 2003 was James Toney-Vasilly Jirov.
Lennox Lewis-Vitali Klitschko was a good fight. The rubber match between Arturo Gatti-Micky Ward was pretty good. I'm not sure about the other two.

Marco Antonio Barrera-Erik Morales 3
Erik Morales-Jesus Chavez

Kelly Pavlik-Edison Miranda
PED User 02-06-2008, 12:36 PM Oh i forgot to add for 1996, the rematch between Frankie Liles and Tim Littles.
I think that was the undercard bout for Naseem Hamed-Daniel Alicea.
That was a wild short fight!
Oh, and for 1999, you must watch Derrick Jefferson-Maurice Harris.
MissDeeCole 02-09-2008, 09:16 PM now comes the real challenge...finding all these fights and downloading them!
