I honestly dont have a clue about what fights i should watch, I mean i've seen the HBO series Legendary Nights (all 12 of them), and I've seen some of the recent boxing matches, but i havent seen most of the old classics in their entirety ya know? The next fight i've heard i HAD to see was Gatti vs Ward 1, Ive already seen moralles vs barrera 1, tito vs mayorga, rahman vs lewis 2, and the last 2 RJJs fights, along with the last few Lennox Lewis fights, but what Fights do i ABSOULUTELy HAVE to see ????

btw, i know hagler vs hearns is one that i have to see in its entirety (not the one in legendary nights).

depends what you like a technical fight or a slugfest, Barrerra Morales 1 is a fantastic fight, as is gatti Ward I, total slugfests. Lennox Lewis / rahmann II is a fave of mine as it was Big Len's most techinical punch perfect retribution Ive seen in a long time.
Matt Said against John Conteh is pretty good, andries against Jeff harding trilogy were knowdown specials, Carl Thompson has had a few also his recent bout against Seb Rothmann really was somink special with an end that you really wouldnt have seen coming, I watched that and just sat there going eff me, I didnt think that was gonna happen!

Sugar Ray Rany Turpin the rematch was a brutal but excellent fight. How the eff Turpin took so much I will never know.

Benn Mclellan is a fantastic fight despite the tragic outcome as are any of Benns fights really, especailly his fights with Eubank.

Sugar Ray Hagler, is another high profile fight. Theres too many to to list to be honest.

Definitely not a comprehensive list, but for classic fights:

- Dempsey vs Willard (absolute must see...you'll never see anything like it in boxing again)
- Dempsey vs Firpo
- Joe Louis vs Schmeling II
- Marciano vs Louis
- Marciano vs Archie Moore
- Sugar Ray Robinson vs anyone! (or just the St. Valentine's day massacre vs Jake LaMotta)
- Ah, hell...Joe Louis vs anyone
- Ali vs Liston II
- Ali vs Foreman (Rumble in the Jungle)
- Ali vs Frazier III (Thrilla in Manilla)
- Hagler vs Hearns (my favourtie fight all-time)
- Leonard vs Hagler
- Tyson vs Spinks
- Buster vs Tyson

There's definitely more, but this is a great start.

By "must see" fights, do you mean fun to watch or historically important?

I think the whole Gatti-Ward trilogy is worth a look.

Benn-Eubank I is also a cracking battle.

As far as fights this year, Pacquiao v. Juan Manuel Marquez is an excellent fight.

If you want to see a fight that encompasses ALL that is boxing-
Brilliant skills, combinations, heart, blood, damage...intense exchanges...fighters at their peaks...& plenty of controversy..
then you must get your hands on :

JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ vs. MELDRICK TAYLOR I

oldgringo
10-26-2004, 02:26 PM
Toney/Jirov - Best fight I've seen since MAB/Morales.

Hagler/Mugabi - This is exactly why Hagler was so great.

Sugar Ray Leonard/Tommy Hearns I&II - Two classic fights.

De La Hoya/Quartey - Great controversial fight among welterweight kings

Holyfield/Bowe I - The second and third fights are great too but this was the best.

Chavez vs Taylor

The actual fight is a must see. You'll get goosbumps just looking at the 2 fighters staying warm in their corners before the fight. If ever 2 fighters ever came together 100% at a fight it was that one. Both young, both top conditioning (easily evident u rarely see a body like theirs theses days), Both in their prime.

I suggest this Saturday night you order the "night of

heavyweights" on pay per view to see some of the best

heavyweights in the division today. Rahman,Ruiz,Byrd, and 4 time

heavyweight champ Evander Holyfield all will be in action

this saturday night at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Holyfield-Bowe Trilogy (great nonstop action)
Gatti-Ward Trilogy (ditto)
Morales-Barrera Trilogy (ditto)
Tszyu-Judah (funniest KO ever)
Gatti-Gamache (brutal knockout)

Since when has Evander Holyfield been boring to watch, except

when he fought John Ruiz a million times!

Danny Williams vs Mark Potter

You have to see this one, why? Well, Williams dislocated his right shoulder early in the fight(2nd round I think) before coming back to stop Potter with a left hand in the 6th.

Their are alot of must see fights but the problem is getting the

fights on vhs or dvd without breaking your bank account. Ordering

some of these fights on tape or dvd may be difficult because show

-time or HBO doesn't have a boxing store with all their fights.

You can find some of the fights the other members are suggesting

on amazon.com like the "thrilla in Manilla" or "the rumble in the

jungle." Recently I found some good fights on EBay, ordered

Muhammad vs Leon Spinks I and II for $4.50, I'm waiting for it in

the mail right now. Good luck finding some classic fights.

My advice would be to train yourself to watch the real fight and not the one that the commenators are telling to you. Turn down the volume. Look at Tyson Berbick, Tyson Douglas, Tyson Holyfield 1, Leonard v Hearns 1+2, Bowe v Holyfield 1,2,3, Bowe v Golota 1+2,Foreman v Frasier,Norton,Ali,Lyle,Moorer, Ali v Fasier 1,2,3, Hagler v Hearns, Hearns v Duran, J.C Chavez take your pick of his championship days. I best stop.
