Run barefoot, it fixes all of those problems.

Darkstranger 01-26-2008, 07:14 AM I run just over 3 miles 4 times a week in the evenings. My coach said his happy enough as he doesn't want me to wreck my shins. I'm 240lbs and have a history of shin splints.
Mickeyb - You might have to change your running style or gait as they call it. You can reduce the shin splints depending on how your feet strike the ground.
msagrain 01-26-2008, 07:57 AM i run 10 miles every time i dont got to the boxing gym ..... if i go the boxing gym i run 5 miles on a daily basis.

Yeah i know. I've looked into it. I've changed my running surface also - usually hit the playing fields (however its been flooding and the pitches are waterlogged and muddy and i can't run on em without sinking, so i'm back on the pavement).
I've tried adjusting the way my feet strike the ground. But i don't know.. it just hurts the insole of my left foot. So i give em a days rest after i've ran that one day. I don't wanna be hobbling about whilst boxing training.
Brockton Lip 01-26-2008, 10:59 AM Shin splints can be a big problem and darkstranger is right; how your feet land can effect the injury. I'm not sure how they are supposed to land but foot placement and shoes can make a difference.
sterling 01-26-2008, 11:29 AM i run 5 miles about 3 or 4 days a week i go up 5 hills and i go up 2 hills that are almost vertical but theres alot of factors to runnin then just the distance anyway so it dont matter
