I say Braddock-Baer but keep in mind that Ali previously was nearly knocked out by Henry Cooper and was also almost beaten by Doug Jones, while Liston was coming off two huge destructions over Patterson. Many people picked Liston to KO Clay in just a couple of rounds at best.

Liston-Clay I by a country mile! What are you guys thinking? Baer was one of the worst heavyweight champions of all-time, while Sonny Liston seemed to be a lock for a top 2 or even top 1 spot before fighting Clay. Braddock may have lost a few, but he was entering his prime and had new life since his hand injuries healed and he was punching harder than ever.

Wrong. Braddock was the #1 contender, so he wasn't exactly an unknown. Ali may have been a top prospect, but he looked bad in his last two fights against lesser fighters.

Odds on Liston-Clay 7-1

Odds on Baer-Braddock 15-1

Baer-Braddock was 10-1, not 15-1. The odds on Liston-Clay weren't that lopsided because many hoped Clay would beat him, not because they thought it actually would happen.:fing02:

I'm going by what was listed by the Ring Record Book. And Liston was the crowd favorite in both of the Clay/Ali fights. Next time you watch it listen to the crowd when they introduce them. Clay/Ali was absolutely hated back then.

That's the only time I can remember Liston being cheered. I guess people thought he was going to be the champion for a long time so might as well cheer for him.

Ali was also seen as an arrogant loud mouth who talked like he was the best ever without having done anything and talked trash about others. People wanted to see him get knocked out.

Liston didn't deliver and no one cheered him again.

Braddock vs Baer was probably the bigger upset because Baer was coming off two KO wins over former champions Schmeling and Carnera.

Braddock was pretty much a journeyman who lost some, won some and who had somehow managed to beat a few top contenders. He was brought in to lose and make Baer look good.

Atleast Ali was a olympic gold medal winning prospect though Liston looked even more indestructible than Baer did.

He wasn't in the first fight. I heard cheering for Clay in the first fight.
