View Full Version : Cotto-Bailey looking solid!
borikua 10-25-2004, 01:41 PM Former WBO 140lb champion Randall Bailey is expected to sign a contract today to face current WBO champion Miguel Cotto on the December 11 undercard of Vitali Klitschko's WBC heavyweight title defense against Danny Williams at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Bailey has lost three of his last six fights, but he is an exciting, all action banger with 27 KOs in his 28 wins. He was scheduled to appear on Thursday's big card in Hollywood, Fla., but obviously will pull out if the fight with Cotto is on.

I have never seen Bailey fight...is he good?
jabsRstiff 10-25-2004, 01:46 PM He's a big puncher, really big.... & also prone to waiting too long to get off.
He'll get destroyed if he stands there letting Cotto ulnload on him.
mic573 10-25-2004, 01:49 PM Cotto will take Bailey easy. What jabsRstiff says is true. He is a puncher but waits too long for that big punch that hasn't come in most of the fights that I have seen.
syn0879 10-25-2004, 01:58 PM I can't see Bailey winning this fight, Cotto wins by KO in the mid rounds.
Hurlex 10-25-2004, 01:58 PM this is abs fight..cotto will win and very easy..anyway..i hope after this fight, cotto step it up and take on some of the top ten which i know he could beat...just stay away from floyd or Kosta and he'll be fine
cuz right now i think floyd would use his speed and beat him badly..and KT would just KTFO of cotto..but anyone else he has a great chance of beating
PRboxingfan 10-25-2004, 02:01 PM This does nothing to help Cotto deal with southpaws or boxers in the future. We know he can take a punch and beat opponents who come at him; now we need to see if he can handle a boxer/mover and/or a southpaw but preferably not both in one opponent just yet.
whdempsey 10-25-2004, 04:01 PM I'm glad to see everyone here knows what he's talking about. As for pure boxers, the best one outside of Floyd is Mitchell. A fight between Cotto and Mitchell is unlikely though, at least after November 6. After all, if Mitchell wins, Cotto wouldn't be worth it, at least not until Cotto's a little more proven, and if Mitchell loses, the risk wouldn't be worth it for Cotto. I wish Corley hadn't pulled out, because even though he's coming off two losses, he's exactly the type of fighter Cotto has to prove himself against.
I think Harris would be about the right level to push Mitchell into a fight. Hatton would too, but he's not good enough from the outside to answer any of the questions about Cotto.

Is he a mover or does he tend to stand in front of his guy? Is he an accurate puncher? Can he take a punch?
I haven't seen any of Bailey but from what I've read it'll be a quick KO for Cotto. He will eat you up working upstairs and down if you sit in front of him.

He comes to try and knock you out but he doesn't move his hands enough. He is one of those punchers who waits for a big shot and will stand in front of his opponent. He's not a mover at all. As far as his chin I have never seen him stopped outside of the Hurtado fight which ended on a bodyshot. This should be an easy fight for Cotto though.

I don't see him standing up very long then. Cotto deals out a lot of punishment in a short period of time. Cotto KO inside of 6.
i saw him fight live in PARIS.
he is strong , and has a HUGE right hand . plus he fought a war against a colombian guy ,i saw it on tv , he can take a punch.
he is not fast , not a defensive genius , but his power is world class , he is a real test for cotto , cant wait to see it.
PRboxingfan 10-25-2004, 06:59 PM He is only a test for Cotto's chin because Cotto is a natural southpaw turned conventional and a great counter-puncher. Bailey, although the bigger guy, will have to endure much punishment to get close enough to connect his right hand. He will probably be drained from the weight loss, too, since he's been fighting at Welter for a while now.
Sir_Jose 10-25-2004, 10:29 PM Bailey is garbage. His power got highly overrated, he looked great knocking out second rate bums then when he stepped up his power went away and he'd get his ass kicked.
Easy fight for Cotto
bandito 10-25-2004, 11:22 PM this fight shouldn't be made!!
pinkpanther 10-26-2004, 06:13 AM I tell you what Randall Bailey, jesus. People complain that Hatton fights washed up fighters but rave about Cotto. Bailey couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag these days!
