School, illness and just plain old laziness has kept me from ranting about music this year but here goes nothing...
Due to my move to Florida and some new accomplices I met, I stretched my mind past my Hip Hop routes of New Jersey. I went out and enjoyed some of the music world's best offerings this past year and came up with a list of some of the most bone jarring, sinister, influencial, music of 2007.
Justice- The Cross (genre:electronica)
After seeing the DJ duo of MstrKrft live in Orlando, I was fascinated by this brand of music. Sure I had heard my fair share of Daft Punk like everybody else, but this was something else. When I picked up the Justice record my mind was blown. Devious hooks, clever drums and a monster synth blend gave this album a fantastic listen. Easily one of the dopest records I have heard in a while, Justice punishes listeners with a violent synth ridden dinner of sounds. If you are a hip hop fan or just a music fan in general, do yourself a favor and play this album with a bone crushing sound system.
Radiohead- In Rainbows
Im sure I dont have to go into detail about this album because everyone knows the amount of great music Radiohead has produced but I will say briefly, I thought the concept of the album's sales was one of the boldest and brightest moves of 2007. What more can you expect from the world's best band?
Burial- Untrue
Another brand of music that caught my ear was this infamous London dubstep. Made popular in underground clubs throughout London, this fusion of dance/ electronica and hip hop had me buggin. When I picked up Burial's 2nd album Untrue, I was mind ****ed. Sinister plots, simple drums, combined with a perfect ambient overtone gave me one of the best listens of 2007. It Could possibly be the best album Ive heard this year. If you are looking for a fresh new sound , give Burial a spin lads.
The Hives- The Black and White Album
What got me to buy this record was the two Pharell produced songs. I picked it up and had an upbeat, fun listen. Great stuff from this Swedish rock band.
American Gangster- Jay-Z
Could be my favorite rapper ever, Jay never dissapoints me. It was awesome to see him get back to the street route and do it right. I was so sick of bubble gum hip hop and needed something to rekindle my love for rap music. Well my wishes were answered and Jay gave me a classic album. Not only that but he released the Accapella version which means dope remix albums..such as American Ironman and Native American Gangster. Check em out!
