All MMA people are bums.

Nothing wrong with two men in underwear, grinding and humping each other for 15 minutes.

That's not gay at all.

until boxing can come up with a fighter that can put on half the show MMA does then boxing is going to be less than MMA. MMA wont be going away. If every fight in boxing was like Gatti vs. Ward 1 then maybe it wouldnt be doing so bad. fact is that boxing usually has boring ass fights and simply beating a guy for 12 rounds wont even get you a victory half the time. I have been boxing for a few years and I love the sport but MMA is taking over.

MMA as practiced in the UFC is certainly a style.

wtf do you mean as practiced in the ufc? the only difference is the rules and what they can and can't do, like you can do some stuff in pride that you cant do in ufc, but other then that its still mixed martial arts, meaning involving all kinds of martial arts. Like you could have one guy thats a bjj fighter and the other is karate or kempo fighter they are going to use there style to win, so Idk what ufc style your talking about.

Nobody comes into the UFC just using Kempo Karate anymore, (or Kung Fu or Tae Kwon Do or any such style) the sport evolved. Everyone now pretty much trains in the same stuff. There are camps and schools that teach the UFC style such as that of Pat Miletich etc. On the Ultimate Fighter series it is what they train in. There is more or less a consensus around the fact that the UFC has evolved into it's own style of fighting. I actually miss the UFC where it was just completely different styles coming in and competing, that is not what it is anymore.

i don't really miss those days. although it was funny watching an occasional 'ninja' or 'karate expert' with a mullet get bludgened, it was also extremely predictable and boring watching other styles consistantly dominate. that's what started the whole gracie ego and ****in royce holding someone in the same position for 5 minutes straight before tapping them out

the evolved blend makes nearly every fight unpredictable and keeps em 10X more exciting imo.

old UFC sucks ass...Abbot even won some fights.

Most MMA fighters still aren't very good athletes, however. And that's real talk when comparing them with other sports like boxing, football players, etc etc....many are still musclehead bimbo's like the old UFC days.

Shows what you know, Have u seen any other sport train as hard as pro mma fighters? not me. Most boxers train pad work, heavy bag, speed, conditioning...MMA fighters do all of that plus Strength And Conditioning. Plus there are wrestlers in MMA who train alot harder than boxers + football players. What u smokin?

then why do half of them gas after the 1st round

name me some fighters u seen gas in the 1st round...besides the HW's who are in horrible shape. These are 5 minute rounds, not 3 minute sissy boxing rounds. Plus there is more to do in a MMA fight then stand there and hit each other and hug. It takes alot of effort to take someone down, to knock someone out, to get full mount position on the ground, ground and pound, submission attempts, fighting from the guard. Takes tons of more energy, if you ever tried then you would know but you dont.

Blair_Wells#32
01-23-2008, 11:58 PM
wow 2swell actualy had some good points there, it does take alot of work 2 take someone down, pass guard, throw kicks, plus the submission attempts.
and i agree with the boxing thing, where they jus stand an throw and hug.
so yeah if your goin 2 put down mma do your homework b4 dissing it.

I didn't say that UFC was not "a martial art" I said it was not "Martial arts", you have to see the context to get it.

It's less exciting to me, but O well. :) It's pretty much just one long grappling match after another accompanied by some very bad striking in between.

They might as well just turn it into a Juijitsu tournament.

Eh, I mean earlier than Tank Abbot's intial appearence. UFC had a good start with big MA names like Bill Wallace and Kathy Long lending their credibility to launch the sport but it deteriorated quickly. However I was talking more about the style vs style format.

Ummm yea there is, there's alot of guys like bjj guys that don't really know **** about stand up there game is on the ground. Now it is true that most mma fighters now are training in every aspect now, they train in wrestling, boxing ect ect but that's not the ufc style, its just limited on what they can do in there.
