Matt Serra is confident that he will be able to get back into the cage vs. Georges St. Pierre by April at UFC 83. Serra suffered a debilitating back injury in early December that forced him out of a title match with Matt Hughes. St. Pierre filled in for Serra and promptly made light work of Hughes.
Now Serra, who K.O.'d St. Pierre last April At UFC 69, may have to face the PRIDE of Canada in his own back yard as UFC 83 appears set to take place in Montreal, Canada. Serra didn't appear concerned however.

"I'm definitely up for that," he told The Canadian Press in an interview. I've got to be realistic. I don't know what they're going to do," Serra said. "I feel like I'm friendly with everybody but business is business and who knows? I know they like Georges, it's not that they don't like me but I don't know. He might be more of a better poster boy. Who knows?"

"Now he's back in full force," Serra continued. "And now he's back into this MMA god that people hype him up to be. And I don't mean that disrespectfully because I really like Georges. I do. I think he's tough as hell. But it's the same thing I said before. Nobody's invincible. I take no offence at people in Canada yelling for me to die,"

Serra also seems to want to settle his score with Matt Hughes somewhere down the line.

"Too much has been done for us not to go at it, me and that guy," said Serra.

If Serra fully recovers and can train properly and fight as he wants to, he'll have the same puncher's chance that he did in the first fight. However, this time GSP will likely completely offset that puncher's chance with his motivation to win at home. Importantly, if the fight goes three or more rounds, I don't see Serra's stamina and/or back holding out.

I hope GSP beats Serra but I have a bad feeling that Serra has his card marked.

This might be a premature to say, but who is next in line for GSP once he beats Serra? I would like to see Serra take on Hughes. But what about GSP?

Who would you like see him to fight?

GSP is gonna terra arm of of Matt. Then Matt will claim he lost because of his back injury. I think if fighters make excuses, they should never have taken the fight in the first place.

GSP will take a brief vacation and return to fight the winner of Fitch/Gono.

this injury is bad for serra, a back injury is the worst. no one is ever the same after they **** up their back. GSP will own serra this time, and then matt hughes will fight serra. i hope serra has just enough left to beat matt
hughes redneck ass, noo yawk style. drago will be in serra's corner talking **** about hughes in his brooklyn accent

I'd like to see Penn move-up again from LtWeight. His split decision loss to GSP was the only true test for GSP, although I expect GSP's mental state now is more solid and he'd be ready to engage Penn more than their first fight. Also, in that first fight, George had limited vision in his right eye from that Penn thumb, which is something that Penn has done to other opponents because he tends to turn his hand "thumb in" at full extension.

I don't understand how you can make this comment, other than that you think Serra's style somehow matches-up nicely against GSP. I can't agree any less. There's nothing in Serra's toolkit, except good power in both hands, that provides any greater challenge than several other of GSP's opponents. I see Serra as luck in his defeat of GSP, nothing more. Sure I give him credit for connecting on GSP enough to drop him a couple times, but I figure Gerge can quite easily keep Serra at a distance and choose the time and place to drop him to the floor. Once their down, Serra doesn't offer anything that GSP hasn't faced and beaten previously. Look to Karo, Hughes, Penn, Koscheck, Trigg, Sherk and even Miller if you want to see guys with excellent ground skills that were beaten by GSP.

I don't see either Serra or GSP getting a KO. Instead I see the five round rematch ending in the third or fourth round with a very tired Serra being submitted by a comparatively fresh looking GSP. Or, maybe the ref stops it when GSP lands too many elbows.

Serra is Alot better then the guys u listed on there that he beat on the ground.
Serra would b a handful for GSP 2 take on the ground, and i don't think Serra will hang back for long he'll go out an go after St Pierre again an i'll say it again should b a good fight if Matt Serra's back is healed properly so he can train.
peace.
