View Full Version : Something about the cage in UFC that befuddles Pride fighters.

I think it's a psychological advantage for veteran UFC fighters to fight Pride fighters fighting in the cage for the first time.

I think former Pride fighters should take a tune up fight first. Stepping into an unknown battle field just goes against Sun Tsu's Art of War, which most people should read. It really applies to everything, from fighting to running a business.

It's disappointing to see a few of the great Pride fighters looking less than competitive. Cro-cop was completely outclassed both times. Silva, outclassed twice as well. Only Rampage, who did fight in the UFC before leaving for Pride, is doing well. Go figure.

Wanderlei Silva has fought in the octagon three times.

# 04-14-2000 - Lost to Tito Ortiz, UFC 25, Unanimous Decision
# 05-07-1999 - Defeats Tony Petarra, UFC 20, KO Round 1, 2:53
# 10-16-1998 - Lost to Vitor Belfort, UFC Brazil, TKO Round 1, 0:44

It's just those Pride fanboys who didn't would always say "Dana is a ***. Pride fighters are 1000 times better than the UFC fighter. PWN!" who are eating their words and making excuses "they're not used to the cage blah blah".

Fedor is better than anyone in the world, not Pride.

The big difference is that it is very hard to cut off the cage, while it's alot easier to cut off the ring. A ring has 4 corners, a cage has none.

I remember Frank Trigg descibing it something like that. You know Pride fighters are used to having space to move around in that big ring, where as in the cage your opponent is right on top of you.
