Boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. dropped a bombshell last week when he said he was considering becoming a mixed martial arts fighter.
One of the world's finest MMA fighters said Mayweather wouldn't be good for the sport and said he's deluding himself if he thinks he can become an elite fighter in a short period of time.
Joe "Daddy" Stevenson, who will fight B.J. Penn for the vacant lightweight title at UFC 80 on Jan. 19 in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England, said Mayweather "wouldn't be good for our sport."
"He represents himself in a different manner and it's not the way I think is correct for our athletes," Stevenson said. "You don't brag about how much money you make. That's totally disrespectful. I've seen him in clubs and I've seen the way he treats people and I can tell you, that's not the kind of a guy we want representing this sport."

I would like to see someone train him just enough to beat the crap out of Joe Stevenson and then leave.

Like lets say the guy that just lost to Stevenson who tested Positive for Cocaine?
Or the guy who will fight the winner of his fight with Penn who tested positive for Roids?
Yeah Floyd is a real step down from those guys.
Palma 12-28-2007, 07:21 AM Did you guys read the part below the article about Tito Ortiz moving up to Heavyweight? I think it would be a good move cause the LH is stacked!

hello2007 12-28-2007, 07:22 AM What makes people think floyd will lose in mma? Yea I know if the fight goes to the ground he might lose. But what makes you think the fight is going to go to the ground. Last time I checked fights start standing up like a man. Good luck taking floyd down with 4 oz gloves or any good boxer for that matter. Do people here know how hard it is just to get in the inside of a boxer? let alone take him down and with 4OZ gloves. are you guys ****ing joking

If Floyd does pursue this I am sure he will be a professional about it and first train in the other disciplines like Wrestling, Muay Thai and Submissions prior to even stepping in to the cage. He isn't going to just jump in there with boxing alone cause that would be crazy and if he did that then I am 99.9% sure that he would loose. If he does pursue this then he should do what Kimbo Slice has done and immerse himself in the sport and the training that goes along with it. MMA is the Triathlon of combat sports. You can be the best swimmer among the field, but if you disregard strengthening the running and cycling part of your game then your chances of winning will be very slim.
I also disagree with you about the difficulty of taking a boxer down. If the boxer in question has had no prior training in avoiding a Double or a Single takedown then he will be taken down. Chuck Liddel is a good stand up fighter. His hands are no where near as good as Mayweather's, but what set's him apart from Mayweather is his ability to kick, defend kicks and defend the takedown. I think Mayweather's got the tools to be a contender in the MMA sport. His hands are deadly and he has great power, speed and he can defend from the clinch. He just needs to alter his training and add the above stated disciplines into his arsenal and he would on his way to being a force to be reckoned with.

Agree with you about everything except the idea that Chuck liddel is a good stand up fighter. He is a horrible stand up fighter that hits really hard.
Floyd should have atleast one whole year of non-stop training. The thing is I don't think Floyd is prepared to just be a contender and not the center of the show. In MMA he will just be a contender, he won't be at the top of the sport.
GDiddy26 12-28-2007, 08:22 PM i bet mayweather would beat stevensons ass. think about it
mrpain81 12-28-2007, 09:58 PM Melvin Guillard Tested Positive for Yayo.
guantes123 12-29-2007, 12:01 AM Heres one guy who knows what he is talking about. How the **** do you plan on taking Floyd to the ground? The way you do a regular mma guy, dont think so. What you have to realize is that mma guys dont have the foot work and elusive hand speed a boxer has. mma guys are already anticipating going to the ground so they dont even want to do stand up, cause their stand up skills suck.
1bad65 12-30-2007, 02:47 AM Taking down a guy who has never done takedown training is easy. Trust me, it is. If any of you doubt it go work out one day in an MMA gym and spar with takedowns.
And boxers are pretty easy to take down. Guys can stay outside of hand range and shoot inside of hand range alot faster than you think.
