Well, consider this then:
The Greek Scriptures (New Testament) indicate neither the day nor the month that Jesus was born. There is zero basis for declaring that Jesus was born on December 25, so if you really want to celebrate the birth of Jesus (the scriptures only ask that Christians commemorate Jesus' sacrifice), tell your family you'd rather do it in the Spring time or something. Many biblical scholars suggest that this date was chosen by Christian clergy because it coincided with pre-existing pagan celebrations that occurred annually on or around the winter solstice (Dec 20-23). Many believe that the 25th was chosen to coincide with a celebration called Saturnalia (in honor of the Roman sun god Saturn).
Beyond that, the tradition of gift giving to celebrate Jesus' birth isn't really based on the Bible either. Presumably, the tradition is rooted in the fact that the Three Wise Men (Magii, astrologers) presented gifts to the baby Jesus (two-year old, not the new born baby Jesus btw). The three wise men didn't give gifts to each other, so you can just explain to your family that you are only buying one gift this year; for Jesus.
For whatever it's worth..

St Nicholas is the reason why we celebrate Xmas in December.
I think his day is the 6th of december.
Anyway as you may or may not know St Nicholas is now more commonly referred to as "Santa Claus" which is a bastardised version of "Sa(i)nt(a) Nichol(au)s

Ohhh, so Christmas, a holiday that supposedly celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ , is observed today on the 25th of December because Saint Nicholas died on 6 December (Julian, or 19th Gregorian). That makes sense. Explain to me again what Saint Nicholas has to do with Jesus?

The main reason why most Christian "Holidays" or "Celebrations" are on certain dates is because they coincided with Pagan Celebrations.
Obviously they had to ease Christianity into the new way of life for people from yesteryear as Religion was the new way to supress the masses.
Consumerism is the new religion.
Most people are obsessed with keeping up with the Jones' rather than realising what life is truly all about whilst the Heirarchy lives in luxury while the minions are too occupied with the day to day struggle.

Yep, December 25th was originally a pagan festivel and celebrated long before christmas. Easy to get the population into celebrating it since it was already a public holiday.
