View Full Version : I want to be a top notch boxer?
Dick-Sucker 12-12-2007, 05:09 AM Hey everyone. I want to be a top notch boxer. Im really young. 20. Im athletic. Slim build. Muscly. I did boxing for two years, with no sparring, training twice a weak. Im really quick etc etc.
Is it to late for me to break into the game. I am an all round athlete, have played state soccer, and low grade cricket. If that helps.
Im really quick.
I see some bums on tv and just feel like i want to do something.
Any advice
mickeyb 12-12-2007, 06:14 AM give it a go.
Even those boxers you see on tv, would still smash you up though.
You can't decide your going to be top notch, without even sparring. How do you know you even like boxing? It's not for everyone.

You haven't seen our local fights on TV, even after I watch them I get inspired to put the gloves on and get myself on TV.

Question is can you take a punch??? **** it's a tough sport. Sure you might be athlete, but what happens when someone who out weights you around 20kg lands a flush right on you during sparring. Have a few Gym wars first, see if you like the taste of your own blood, before you start thinking about actually having any real fights.

I can give you advise,I've done boxing for 9 yrs roughly.
I want to know how you've been training for 2 years and never sparred??
That's very strange.
Are you too scared to get in the ring or something?
Secondly, when you do spar, you have to be really really fit, can you last?
Fighting will require you to be even more fitter than sparring.
If you do get in the ring, and get bashed, then you will know then whether this is the sport for you or not.
Are you prepared to get hit? That's the question you have to ask yourself.

Yeh im going to do that. I wonder about my ability to take a punch aswell. I have been in some street fights over the years that i haven't started and got hit hard and taken it well. But its a different thing in the ring. Some sparring sessions will sort me out.
I want to see how i react. Im gonna learn more about myself when i start training.
LOL. And your post about our local fighters. Ever since those two heavyweights a few weeks back, Kennedy and the other guy lol. Im so keen to get into it.

Im prepared to get hit. Well atleast i think so. I did training for 2 years. My father didn't want me to spar because i was looking good for a soccer career. But that was stalled, later on. My trainer said i had outstanding pace, good on my feet. And he wanted to train me. He had big raps on me.
However when i was 16 i just started partying. And only hit the bag at home once a weak.
I have 100% faith in my ability as a sportmen. And even though it sounds like arrogance, i feel i should be at the top in some sport.
brently1979 12-12-2007, 09:03 PM Get into the Gym spar against a few guys which out weight you a little, that's what I used to do in the Gym and when I sparred Guys my own weight I could kinda take those punches much much better.
OBOMBER 12-12-2007, 09:47 PM 2 years of training and never introduced to sparring?
Did you do boxercise?

I agree with you there. There are a lot of hopeless professional fighters out there. I'm sure im way better p4p than a lot of these pro boxers. The only difference is, they're prepared to cop hits to the nose and eye, where as I'm not. The thing is , any1 can turn professional or fight amateur. There's no selection criteria. It's up to you whether you want to do it or not.

Pretty much, you've seen all those bums on Fox Sports fighting, you don't have to be in that great a shape to get yourself on TV as well.

Dick-Sucker 12-14-2007, 01:23 AM Brently. Another question. Do you think some guys on tv don't even train, like the bums. They rock up blind for a few hundred bucks cash?

Hey, I think a few of them don't really train, they might head down to the Gym a few days before the fight, but that's about it. NO, I never had any pro fights. I've spared a few Pro fighters back in the day.

How did you go. Did you match it with them?
Yeh i always thought they train a couple of days before or not at all. Because some boxers get there, throw one combination and then are buggered.

Yeah, I did pretty well. I spared mostly guys that weight around 170 and I would have been 147ish. I could take a punch.
What weight would you fight in??

Yeah, but you'll be able to make Super light weight, if that's your walkaround weight. Yeah, spar some bigger dudes, you'll soon find out if boxing is for you. I loved the taste of my own personally, but you might hate it.
I'll train you up Bro.
